How much does it affect if scouts see a pitcher as very likely to be in the bullpen, not a future rotation? And when does the draft start tonight? 5? So the cards won’t likely pick for 60 to 90 minutes after that?

Getting Blaine Knight or Kris Bubic at #43 would be much better value than getting Kowar or Rolison at #19…

    Nailed it!

For those wondering, this is consistent with other organizations. The fact the Cards ever let the media in is nothing short of amazing, but remember that a lot has changed since Adam Ottavino was taken 12 years ago.

If scouts see a pitcher as a bullpen only option, it usually knocks them down a couple of rounds, at least.

    It starts at 7pm Eastern.

Nope, Tampa Bay snapped him up. At this point, there is bound to be a pretty talented player left at 19. At least two of Singer and Kowar, Nolan Gorman and McClanahan. Plus whomever else the Cards really like.

At this point, I am hoping for Turang or Rocker

Is this pick going to best available or a cap saver?

Best available – question is pitcher or position player

This draft is deeper in pitchers, I would go for Turang here

Seems like a good pick. With the run on pitchers it seemed like the position player was the way to go. Hopefully we see this kid in the big leagues in 3-5 years!

How tough if a sign will he be?

Due to the fact he has Ken Reitz-like speed, he may be out 1B of the future.

I thought for sure Larnach would be the pick. I am assuming as high as Gorman was ranked, there is little doubt he can stick at 3rd.

The Cardinals slot value is $3.2 million. He shouldn’t be that difficult to sign.

I am assuming as high as Gorman was ranked, there is little doubt he can stick at 3rd.

From MLB Pipeline: “One concern was whether he could stick at third, and while Gorman showed well at the hot corner at a variety of summer events, some of those worries did resurface this spring.”

Well they can try him at 3rd and if it doesn’t work out they can move him to 1st.

The analysts on the broadcast seem to think he just needs to take a lot of grounders and repititions in instructional league and he may be solid at 3rd.
