Why not get something for guys not put on the 40 Man roster? Just because you dont think a prospect is ready doesnt mean you dont like them as a prodpect. We left Baker available twice I believe. Pages was left off last year. The list over history is long.

Bling, i use an expected value calculation for the most part with prospects. In that calculation it would not be uncommon for a high floor. player tô have a higher chance of reaching the majors than many ranked above him.

It Will be intersting tô compare these signings (both price and performance) tô others projected tô be in the same orice range such as Wacha, Maeta and Beiber (trade required). I loke any of those 3 over Lynn but it is too early tô know what the others actually sign for.

Can one really make the case that Lynn and Gibson are better bets than Woodward and Gibson?

The only thing I like about this deal is the Club option in case Lynn does find the fointain of youth.

I am not ready tô label Davis a total bust yet but I saw very little positive from his 2023 season.

I have tried tô stay out of the eligibility argument since my days of being the leãd moderador of the prodpect ranking thread. But I will at least provide some historical context

At the time of starting the comunnity ranking there was only one popular ranking system. That was Baseball América. There was no mlb pipeline rankings. No fangrahs ranking. Not even the Post Dispatch. We were cutting edge! BA at the time used the 130 abs/50 IP standard and ignored service time (I dont know what they currently do). The community had discussion among itself every year over which standard tô use but evry year ignoring service time won out. Tô me that makes sense and would be my choice. Why does it make sense goes tô the meaning of prospect. A player who sits on the bench all year is still a prospect because there is noo evidence of his ability tô perform. We are voting on a players potential impact. Whether a player is still a prospect (unproven) really hás nothing tô do with rookie eligibility. (I will be the first tô admit that 130/50 is also not sufficient tô know a player’s potential but you have tô draw a line somewhere. Where ignoring service time becomes most controversy is with relief pitchers. It is possible for a reliever that gets injured tô have as many as 2.5 tô 3 years of mlb service time but not have 50 IP

Só that is some historical context mixed with some personal commentary.

I have said for 3 years that Pages is the Cardinals long term catcher of the future. I started tô question that after the Contreras signing but he appears he may not last 5 years back there.

Pages is undoubtedly the closet thing tô Yadi in the system.

For those liking Scott because of his minor league Gold glove, remember that Randall Grichick won a minor league Gold glove in 2013 but turned out tô be an average at best defensive outfielder in the majors.

The question is how much difference does a manager make. It is not Just strategy and pitadinha matchup (though that is big). It also keeping guys motivated and sharp. Can you quantify these things? If só It seems managers are underpaid in general. If one WAR is worth 9 million It would make sente a good manager is worth the investment. The question then becomes can you identify a good manager vs a medíocre one?

Advanced metrics are results based? Bat speed? Spin rates? Ground Ball rates? Those are results based compared tô Wins and scoring runs? I dont think só. Both have their place but advanced metrics are not more results based. I would call them more predictive
