I don’t want this to sound flippant, but we will know when the Cards tell us. There is no schedule that we are aware of, so I can’t say which day it will happen. Typically, once they are deemed ready, a number of the hitters will be activated at Palm Beach. Most pitchers probably will not appear in games in 2024.
Brian, regarding the above. I know there are various rules about the number of players that can be on the books, and also the number of players that can be on various rosters. Are you saying there is no requirement for these players to be on any roster as of right this minute? Or are you saying they are on rosters, but we just don’t know about it yet?

Sorry I missed this question earlier. Half of the 18 draft picks are with Palm Beach and the others are on the FCL roster. We didn’t know who was where until the Cardinals disclosed that detail.
Well, so far, the player off to the hottest start in the pros appears to be Christian Moore, who was selected 8th overall by the Angels, assigned to AA and has a 1.693 OPS as of today.
That honor for the Cards goes to 12th rounder Ian Petrutz with a 1.100 OPS (despite zero HR). Just a small sample size or did the Cards find a hidden gem? .441 babip says luck. 9 waks against 3 k’s in 37 abs days there may be something there. I noticed mlb pipeline ignored him in favor of others from the 2024:draft class.
Petrurz is playing LF in low A so he is already at the bottom of stack defensively. Probably no arm. No where to go except maybe 1B. I also noticed his OBP exceeds his SLG, so considerable regression of his hitting line can be expected as his PAs pick up. He has stuff going for him though.
Petrutz has crept into our August rankings at no. 50. Blake likes him. We discuss near the end of our podcast posted this morning. More details about Petrutz will be in our new rankings article to run Thursday morning for members.
Since Blake likes him, it will be interesting to know what Blake thinks of Petrurz’s defense. I will check the podcast tonight.
