Mautz has built up an extensive string of unimpressive results reaching back into last season. He is not getting anywhere.

For some reason, I thought that Lin was a lefty, so that photo of him made me wonder. Turns out that he’s a righty after all…Waino-esque on the mound. I wonder what sort of nickname he’ll get if he makes it all the way to the bigs?

Stature wise he is like Waino, but Lin is a gas thrower and throws 99+ consistently. The crazy thing is Lin has a lot of growth left weight wise and will only get stronger. Hopefully with that big of a frame he will be able to hold up the velocity and his UCL while being a bit of a work horse.

I have a category I put prospects in once they have established a lengthy developmental progress trend line that I consider horizontal, with no upward slope. Maybe a few minor blips, but horizontal. The poster boy I have in that bucket is Joshua Baez and I am thinking Mautz needs to be dropped in beside him. I really hate the idea of two post 2020 second rounders in the flat line bucket.

It’s not terribly catchy, but how about “Win-Lin”, stlcard25? The average male height in Taiwan is right about 5.8 and Chen-Wei stands nearly a foot above that. Didn’t the Marlins once have a pitcher with the same name…..or maybe it was Chen-Wei Zin….or Chen-Wei-Yin…something like that.

Chase Davis put a good end to the month with a 2-3 day with a HR and walk. That put his final month of June stats at .333/.464/.683. Even with such a great month, his overall stats are average just due to how bad April and May were. I would expect them to promote him to Peoria soon. From his age and experience, he honestly should have already been in A+, but the performance previously certainly did not warrant it.

For the record I started much of the Dunn talk but not once did I say he should be handed a starting job.

CC, who do you think should be the starter at 2B for the second half? Not who will, but who should?

From that image alone, you can really see why Hjerpe’s 90ish MPH fastball is much harder to hit. That release point must make it look much faster.

No minor league thread yet for this week but rare Monday schedule for minor league teams today.

I’ve said this before, but Mautz is going to be a good LH reliever one day. He can throw 97 and has a really good slider. No changeup though and control is spotty. I think they got to keep him in the starter role until he’s not, which is probably AA. He is a year younger than his draftmates too.
