Word is that Christian Yelich might – MIGHT – need spinal surgery and be out for a long while.

Wow – quite the news about Yelich. He has come back to be pretty good again too.

I thought about going to this game on my way back home, but have pretty much decided to go through Springfield, IL and check out the AA game Saturday. As we speak I am in line for another National Sports Collectors Convention in Cleveland. Saw the Guardians top the Tigers 2-1 last night – same score as Tuesday’s Cards-Pirates tilt.

Here’s a wild “full circle” trivia thing – back in 1966 as a kid my dad and I saw a Pirates-Cardinals game in the brand new Busch Memorial Stadium. Final score was 2-1 Pirates, with Steve Blass besting Nelson Briles.

Bike Mike, I hope you don’t really stop in Springfield, IL and expect to see a AA game. You might be waiting a long time.

Last time I was in Springfield to watch a baseball game was to see the Bears play.

If Rat can watch the Reds play in Crosley Field, Mike can watch Springfield Cardinals in Lanphier Park in Springfield, Ill. I saw them play there many times.

Several years ago, when MLB was eliminating minor leagues, I wrote this detailed article about the decline of baseball in Springfield, IL.

I learned a lot about spinal anatomy when my wife had surgery years ago. For one thing, I thought that the vertebra and the disks were like donuts, with the spinal cord running down the middle. That is not the case. It’s complicated and many different things can go wrong. Good luck to him.

Well, the Nationals got no-hit on Thursday. Dylan Cease of the Padres did the trick. Maybe their bats will be cold for the next few days while they recover. Then again, maybe that will awaken their bats. Fingers are crossed.

And Bernie Sanders still running in 3rd place for the White House……

Lanphier was never a legit ballpark for affiliated ball IMO. I always knew that, and back then I used to see a lot of affiliated ball in a lot of ballparks. It can’t compare to Dozer field in Peoria, for example. And the ballpark in Memphis is Yankee stadium in comparison. I cannot imagine what the team’s clubhouse facilities must have consisted of. Many of the WPA parks in use back then were better if they’d been kept up.

But it was not a bad place, just mis-cast. The funny thing is I don’t have clear memory of seeing
AAA ball there, even though I did. I guess its because I went with friends or something, and its taking my kids that I remember. The class A games were fun to attend there for some reason. It was the first out of town games I took my boys to when they were real little. An easy drive. Seeing Cardinals affiliates play was always a lot harder after that.

I didn’t know he was running this year. I guess I should watch the news more. On second thought…

    Big announcement!

It’s CCFF! As in Cardinals Catfish Fiddlers Friday!

I am headed out to Lakeview, the Amish restaurant out on the lake north of town, for some catfish fiddlers, mashed potatoes/gravy, green beans, noodles, dressing, sweet iced tea, and some soft serve vanilla ice cream. Then a Cuban Sandwich 7×50 cigar out front afterwards. Then it will be time to come home, relax for awhile, then me and Whitey Herdog will be on the couch for the Reds/Rays and then the Nats/Cards. And then probably the Pirates/DBacks late tonight.

Nice pregame show with all of the former Redbirds gathered together on the field. Seeing TLR and Steve Kline giving one another a big hug and a smile is proof positive that there’s always a chance for world peace…Haha!

Scott Rolen still looks like he’s the strongest guy on the field. I always thought he looked like he could outpull a draft horse,

Suppan looked like he was real happy to see all of his old Redbird teammates. Whenever I see comments related to the need for a dominant “ace” SP’er in order to be able to advance deep into the post-season I’m always reminded the ’06 NLCS and that Jeff Suppan was the MVP of that epic 7 game series.

I like striking out the whole top of their order. Swatting a lot of flies there.
