Also BS Southeast and Southwest ExtraJuly 1, 2024 at 6:06 pm #258536If things go as planned I will see this same match up exactly three weeks later. We play the Pirates in Pittsburgh on Tuesday, July 23 as well. I hope to be in attendance – already have the ticket in fact, in a section behind the Redbird dugout.
July 1, 2024 at 6:36 pm #258537What are the odds at least one of these games will either be postponed or have a rain delay? Seems like it usually happens when we go to Pittsburgh.
Folks, I’d say the time is now. It’s July 1st and time for Goldschmidt and Arenado to finally start doing something. And I mean right now.

With Goldy, it appears he’s nearing the end at 36/37. Not unusual at all.
Arenado is perplexing. Only 33. I’m thinking it has to be an undisclosed injury, but who knows? He’s totally void of power. Weird.
July 1, 2024 at 7:44 pm #258542I’m sure you’re looking forward that, Bikemike. I’ve never been there, but that ballpark sure looks like a nice one when viewed during the many games I’ve watched on TV. I recall in the late 80’s there was a lot of talk about the Pirates possibly moving to another city before they were saved by Leyland/Bonds. Now, I’m once again hearing murmurs about a possible move. I always thought that would be a shame. Those Buccos have been a fixture in western Pennsylvania for more than a minute or two and some of my favorite players from my youth wore the black and gold. At any rate, I’m sure you’ll enjoy yourself at the game.

Sends a shiver right on down the spine doesn’t it? I say this in all seriousness. It is the rare individual whom with mere words can inspire others to do wonderful things. I believe we have one of these special individuals right here in our midst at The Cardinal Nation. I would love to hear RatsBuddy deliver a motivational speech to either one of his local Jasper, Indiana, high school sports teams, or even to a professional team…..preferably one nestled along the banks of the mighty Mississippi. I think one of Rat’s speeches would encompass Knute Rockne’s “win one for the Gipper”, Jim Mora’s “playoffs…..are you kidding me…..playoffs?”, Herb Brooks’ “great moments are made out of great opportunities” and Gordon Gecko’s “greed is good” speeches……all rolled into one. Bravo, Rat……bravo.
July 1, 2024 at 8:12 pm #258546Maybe Ollie needs to get ejected again.
July 1, 2024 at 9:10 pm #258554Or, if asked about the lackluster hitting during a post-game presser he could answer with something along the lines of, “I want a clubhouse full of guys who have one thing on their minds, and it’s not themselves.
It’s winning a championship. So you start out by weeding those guys out”…Haha!July 1, 2024 at 10:46 pm #258559Cards catch a break tonight (Monday) out west in Colorado. The Rockies down the Brewers 8-7 in 10 innings at Mile High Stadium.
Only 6.0 games out now. The Cubs are now 11.0 games out.

July 2, 2024 at 5:27 am #258560Yesterday Noot had a walk and three strike outs in his AA rehab game. His previous game he went 2-3 with a homer. There is a lot of variation between how good pitchers are in the Texas League so there is no telling how ready he is to return. He might have hit a roster filler guy the other day and then got smoked by somebody good.

While neither are the MVP-type player from a year ago, Arenado is just below league-average with the bat. Meanwhile Goldschmidt is well below-average. Playing 3B, Arenado is still an above-average player.

30 million $ a year. And you are getting a severely diminished player. At least Goldy still plays pretty solid defense. At some point if Arenado doesn’t trend upward, we will have better players sitting on the bench. That’s when it really starts hurting. If Walker were to have a nice surge and return along with Tommy and Noot, that time will be here. But we all know the contract is going to play.

Right now, Walker has a .699 OPS in AAA, while Arenado has a .693 OPS in MLB. Edman is still at 0.000 for the year.
July 2, 2024 at 1:50 pm #258598I have not heard anything about a possible relocation of the Pirates. They are a club on the way up, and I doubt they would move.
The Athletics obviously will be on the move and are in the most precarious situation in MLB. I think Tampa might be next in line as a possible team to relocate. Then perhaps Miami. Other than that it seems most teams are reasonably well off and stable.
Let’s hope we bring the “A” game to the Steel City. I keep thinking this business of being in so many close games is going to jump up and bite us, and we are going to lose big and lose close, rather than the current trend of losing big and winning close. Maybe we can try something new and win big as well as close. 🙂
July 2, 2024 at 1:54 pm #258599Batting 8th is where Gorman belongs in the lineup, right now. They must feel he has a chance to overcome his woes by keep playing at the MLB level. Burly has been getting some timely RBIs lately. But he needs to crank more home runs. It would really help the offense.

jj-cf-stlParticipantGoldy and Donny both homered off Keller last time we faced him. Winn and Fermin both tripled. Keller went 6.0 IP, 4 ER
Lynn in a short start allowed Roycroft to pick up his first Win. 4-3 Final

CF M. Siani LJuly 2, 2024 at 3:55 pm #258606I like this early evening first pitch. It not only gives me an excuse to have an early din-din, but also to make numerous forays into the kitchen later on to procur snacks between innings and during pitching changes while the game is being played. It’s midseason and by this time in early July, I’ve got my timing dialed in and down to a fine art…

MrperkinsParticipantYou guys see that Matthews made it to the futures game? I expected Hence but this is a nice surprise for the young lefty
July 2, 2024 at 5:37 pm #258609The Doppler Radar looks good. Should get this one in with no delays.
Me and Whitey Herdog are headed to the couch for the early evening cigar and first pitch. Later tonight we will be on the couch for the DBacks and the Doyers from Doyer Stadium. Then real late tonight an episode of Joe Friday and Dragnet.

July 2, 2024 at 5:43 pm #258610Cardinals get another chance to reach a season high water mark of 4 games above sea level. I don’t think that’s too much to ask for. Time to get moving.
July 2, 2024 at 5:48 pm #258611The challenge rubs some salt in it.
July 2, 2024 at 5:51 pm #258612Seems like all Goldy has done lately is pull the ball on the ground for an out.
July 2, 2024 at 6:07 pm #258613Either that or warning track distance.
July 2, 2024 at 6:08 pm #258614Seems like Gorman K’s too much.
