He is a 33 year old rental reliever. Average numbers. Not as good as Floro who ended up going to Arizona.

Player the front office got back not out of line with Dylan’s performance. Really do not expect much. Hope I am wrong.
Basically a give away. I hope Dylan plays every day in Tampa and can find some success. It just never happened for him like we thought it would. Still a highlight of this year was that throw – that might have been in Tampa where he did that – not sure though.
He has to stay healthy to play every day. Then he has to perform well enough to stick in the lineup. It’s not as though he hasn’t had the opportunity here. He has, more than once.
Shawn Michael Armstrong. The real scary thing on “Armie’s” resume isn’t actually his stats, but rather where he graduated high school……Wes Craven High School. His numbers really aren’t too shabby….a 3:1 career K-BB ratio, 9 K’s and only 1 BB in his last 7 innings stands out to me. Our starters need only go 5 frames and then we shut down the opposition over the next 4 innings with a 1-2-3-4 rock-em-sock-em punch of Armie-Kitty-JoJo-The Terminator.

Idk what happened in the Floro deal but the nats pivoted to take a 25 year old corner inf whose having a heck of a year in AAA over Carlson. Maybe it was something to do with money or maybe they wanted something else and the Cards balked and went to Armstrong. Who is walking and giving up hits like crazy this year. FIP darling a little bit. Sounds like the stat boys won out over this one. Maybe Bloom had a part as well.
Well, I did not think Mo would get much for Carlson, but I expected a trade of more consequence. Carlson and a prospect for a much better reliever, for example.
It sounds to me like they might have non-tendered Carlson this winter had he not been traded.
Sounds about right. It even sounds obvious after thinking a bit about how it transpired and who was exchanged.
Well it was a trade that pretty much had to happen to keep a happy clubhouse. I wouldnt even consider the pitcher we got average so it is what it is. With this the cardinals have finally gotten rid of what was supposed to be our outfield for a long time. Oneil has berm doing good, bader has managed to do well for the most part, i wish the best for carlson.
Not a fan of this trade. The Cardinals were hurt by lack of OF depth this year – are they going to sign a FA outfielder for next year?
It would have seemed preferable to send Carlson down to AAA to get him playing time everyday so he is positioned to be a regular who can play all three OF spots next year.
The pitcher they got back does not impress with his body of work this year.

I agree. It has a huge potential to backfire and there is very little upside, just like the O’Neill deal. Carlson had two years of control left and will be 27 in 2026.
Have y’all wrote off Walker?
O’Neill & Carlson were given extended looks and failed to hold down a starters role effectively, due to consistent injuries.
