Springfield is 7 games above .500. Peoria is 14 games below .500. But Springfield is the poor performing team? Logic check!
July 6, 2024 at 6:02 am #259253CC, the original poster was specifically discussing pitching, not the team record.
July 6, 2024 at 6:02 am #259254The #stlcards system was 4-2 on Friday. The Cardinal Nation’s Player of the Day, Peoria RH Inohan Paniagua, pitched six scoreless, no-hit innings with four Ks. Other standouts include Victor Scott II, Iván Herrera, Lars Nootbaar, Ronny Oliver and Luis Piño.… pic.twitter.com/WGHoJq1XWb

July 6, 2024 at 11:31 am #259276Brian, in post #259010 jnevel posted specifically about team records. He did not talk about piching
July 6, 2024 at 12:51 pm #259291Pitching is precisely what I was talking about CC. I said so in the first sentence. I was looking at their pitching ERA compared to others in the league.
July 6, 2024 at 7:49 pm #259357Mathews with a dominant start so far for Springfield tonight. 5 IP 7 Ks, 1 BB with only 4 hits allowed. 65 pitches only as well so a good pitch count.
July 6, 2024 at 10:01 pm #259369I apologize to jnevel and Brian as I didn’t read the post carefully enough.
But we also know that Springfield plays in one of the most hitter friendly parks in baseball while Peoria and Palm Beach play in 2 of the stingiest parks in baseball
July 6, 2024 at 10:08 pm #259370It looks like I jinxed him and he gave up 3 runs the next inning. Still not a bad night.
July 7, 2024 at 5:41 am #259371Still not a bad night.
By what measure was it not a bad night? His ERA for the night was 5.29 and WHIP 1.76. That is right in there with some of the other Springfield starters whose results were just characterized as bad.
July 7, 2024 at 6:11 am #259372CC – yes, Springfield is in the hitter friendly Texas League, but I was comparing ERAs with the rest of the teams in that league. They are 9th out of 10 teams. There isn’t as big of a gap from number 1 to number 10 as some leagues so perhaps it’s not as bad as it seems.
July 7, 2024 at 6:59 am #259375The #STLCards system went 4-2 on Saturday. TCN’s Player of the Day, 2B Ramon Mendoza, hit a three-run go-ahead HR in Springfield’s win. Other standouts: Pete Hansen, Leonardo Bernal, Nathanael Heredia, Hunter Kublick, Augusto Calderon, Oliver Gonzalez, Bracewell Taveras and… pic.twitter.com/swUas044iS

From what I seeon the box score, he gave up 3 ground ball hits in the 6th and walked one. A case of a little bit of bad luck with BABIP. Mathews had a 7 K to 2 BB and struck out ~25 % of the batters he faced and gave up 0 HRs on 4 fly balls.
ERA has basically 0 predictive ability of a AA minor league pitcher to their MLB performance. K%, BB%, HR%, GB% are things that have some correlation to a AA pitchers future success. The R2 of those isn’t amazing, but it is the best pridctors we have.
July 7, 2024 at 11:46 am #259394Leonardo Abdiel “Tank” Bernal. Looks he’s right at the precipice of making a huge impact.
