The overriding caveat is that Donovan will need to be added to the 40 man roster this fall and Gorman does not. Not saying it won’t happen, but Cards have a number of players to protect from the Rule 5 draft and may not have room for Gorman on the 40 man when the season begins.
I heard on a Rob Rains podcast say that Gorman pulled a hamstring last week and is still recovering. That answers why we haven’t seen him on the roster for any of the past few games.
It seems to me that Hicks wasn’t pitching that well in AFL, and didn’t want his stock to drop anymore than it has; so he ended his stay there. Maybe he wanted to pitch side sessions until he got the feel for his pitches back. What do you all think?
We all have our own opinions about various players based on what we have seen in the past. Players get hot and impress us and then go cold and disappoint us. I am sure when ST rolls around all will get a fair shot at playing time, and their performance will dictate who plays what position. I imagine all on this board want everyone wearing the birds on the bat to do well, so that the team can win a championship. Wouldn’t that be something… that the coach’s would have a real hard time deciding who to play where because they are all playing great?
I feel like the FO is willing to use internal options if we have the DH next year. Several AAA players fit that slot including Yepez, Gorman, or even Baker. Don’t see them spending for anyone not on the 40 man or needs to be put there to protect them.
Actually got Yepez in the Adams trade. Gallegos came from the Yankees in the Luke Voit trade. But I agree for the most part. Trades seem to have worked out a bit better for the Cards, with an exception of the Ozuna trade. Gave up way too much young talent for an injured player because we were desperate for a big bat.

When can we expect to see players (minor leaguers and DSL) get dropped to make room for the new players coming in January? I assume there will be a correlation with who gets dropped from the major league team and the bumping up from the various levels in the organization. Just didn’t know the timeline for that.

Help me understand the numbers on the Memphis roster. I count 32 active (not counting Hudson rehabbing) and two on IL. I thought the max number of players could only be 30, so has there been a change for this extended period of 10 games?
BlackHills is right. Ali Sanchez is listed on both Cards and Memphis still which may be providing some confusion. The Cards can still move LeBlanc to the 60 day to free up a spot for Hudson, but if Flaherty also comes back, things get a little dicey! Someone may get designated!
14N – I feel like there are several kids in the lower levels that need more time to season and literally grow into their adult playing bodies to see if they are real prospects or not. Several DSL players look interesting but are very young! As we saw this year, some that we had written off, (Plummer, D. Perez) are finally showing some promise. So, to answer your question, I do think there are enough players to fill out a top-50 list since things can change as these guys grow and learn to play the game at different levels. My two cents…

Should have happened by now, over 6 months since the trade.
I will be interested to see who comes off the 40-man or goes on the 60-day IL when our starting pitchers start coming back off the 60-day, beginning tomorrow! Can Quezada be put on the 60-day even though he is in the minors? They added him to the minor league 60-day IL today. Not sure how that works!

MLB Draft Tracker showing that Cabell is signed for $125,000. That just leaves round #20 pick yet to sign by Sunday!
Kind of surprised that we didn’t sign more undrafted free agents this year, but understand there aren’t as many places to put them since a few teams went away! Maybe if we don’t sign the last two draft picks they will sign some intriguing players! Many later draft picks don’t pan out, but with just 20 rounds this year, several potential players will be out there!

Have the FA signings of Noah Mendlinger and Bryan Pope not been officially announced by the Cardinals yet?
I noticed they have not been added to the Matrix nor can they be found with your search tool. I saw their signings on the MLB transaction page but didn’t know if it was official yet. Please advise.But it works, I was adding in the $125,000 for the other two unsigned players and it was throwing me off. thanks for helping me sleep better tonight! Seeing it on paper really helped! Thanks! (I’m an old geezer, so spreadsheets help me see things better!)
