If I had to guess – and it is only a guess – him making the decision to exit feels more likely to me than someone else having made the decision for him. But absent of specifics, other than the Cardinals saying he accomplished what was needed (which was odd in itself), anything is conceivably possible.
October 30, 2021 at 5:11 pm #176010Given his line it is hard to imagine what was accomplished. 4 uninspiring innings. Another philosophical differences dodge.

cardsfan64ParticipantI heard on a Rob Rains podcast say that Gorman pulled a hamstring last week and is still recovering. That answers why we haven’t seen him on the roster for any of the past few games.
October 31, 2021 at 9:01 am #176027The Glendale Desert Dogs beat the Salt River Rafters in a one run @MLBazFallLeague contest on Saturday. Two #stlcards saw action, as Lars Nootbaar and Juan Yepez each drew a walk. (free) https://t.co/cpcP31q7p9 pic.twitter.com/Clkd3oGpb1

ParticipantThe thing I like about Yepez is that he’s generating power with a relatively low K rate (18.8%) this season.
October 31, 2021 at 11:40 am #176031Another positive about Yepez, as far as suitability as a DH, PH is he doesn’t have a noticeable platoon split. He’s good vs anybody.

cardsfan64ParticipantAccording to an article by Rob Rains, “Left-handed pitcher Garrett Williams has been added to the Glendale roster to replace Hicks.” One more prospect to watch during the offseason!
Cardinals’ prospect Brendan Donovan trying to “get better” with Fall League experience
November 2, 2021 at 8:05 am #176079In Monday @MLBazFallLeague action, #stlcards prospects Lars Nootbaar (2 RBI), Zack Thompson (3 SO IP) and Jake Walsh (save) led Glendale to a come-from-behind road win. (free) https://t.co/3Y6amy2BXk pic.twitter.com/WGk1ygG2EW

stlcard25ParticipantThe lesson of the AFL…when a bunch of Cards play, the Desert Dogs tend to win. I’ve noticed that they lose a lot when the Cards are not hitting or pitching.
November 2, 2021 at 9:19 am #176083Williams’ addition was announced Saturday but he hasn’t pitched yet.
November 3, 2021 at 8:01 am #176120In Tuesday @MLBazFallLeague action, #stlcards prospect Juan Yepez singled but was erased on the basepaths in Glendale’s loss. Andre Pallante is scheduled to take the ball for the Desert Dogs this afternoon. (free) https://t.co/Q5aoZ7QnWu pic.twitter.com/tsge85S5Qd

November 4, 2021 at 1:49 am #176165Pallante has quietly had a very good AFL. He could be a middle of the rotation guy, or at least power reliever to start his career.
November 4, 2021 at 7:40 am #176171In Wednesday AFL action, the Glendale Desert Dogs topped the Peoria Javelinas in seven innings. Three #stlcards were in action, including Andre Pallante, who started and pitched three scoreless innings. Brendan Donovan drew two walks in three PAs. stlcard25ParticipantI’m not sure the Desert Dogs have won many games where there weren’t at least 2-3 Cardinal position players and a Cardinals pitcher in the lineup. It’s clear that our prospects are carrying that team.

ParticipantVery true, 25. It’s really good to see.
Looking forward to seeing if it carries over to ST. I’m especially excited about Thompson. He was good at the Springfield camp in 2020, almost as good as Libby, then they shot him all the way up to Memphis in 2021. After only 2 minor league starts. After only 15.1 minor league innings. Shell shocking. Looks like he’s settling in. Regrounded.November 4, 2021 at 7:59 am #176178Maybe the Ultimate Cycle?
November 4, 2021 at 9:56 am #176196I like it, ZTR! And so it shall be named. The Ultimate Cycle. Where in a single game, a player:
-Singles
-Doubles
-Triples
-Homers
-Walks
-Sacrifices
-Hit By PitchI took the liberty yesterday to check with The Skipster and the fine folk over at the esteemed Elias Sports Bureau and lo and behold……this Ultimate Cycle has never been done in a ML game. This surprised me, as you would think with all of the long extra inning affairs over the years, that this marvelous feat would have been accomplished. I just got an epiphany of sorts….I clearly see Dylan Carlson being the first MLer to pull off ZTR’s Ultimate Cycle….wow and it’s a crystal clear vision….. it’s the 17th inning of a 2028 Cards-Mets game and Carlson is jubilantly staggering towards 1st base after being plunked on the noggin…….by a Cardinal left handed reliever.
November 4, 2021 at 10:34 am #176199What is it called if a player hits a single, double, triple, and homer in order?
November 4, 2021 at 11:07 am #176200In order is called a “natural cycle”. According to this article, it has happened 15 times in MLB history, most recently in 2006.
November 4, 2021 at 1:39 pm #176204The “NUC”, or “Natural Ultimate Cycle”, would be walk, sacrifice, hbp, single, double, triple and……….what if we made it tremendously difficult and added a granny to the mix? And what would we call it? ZTR? So it would be a walk, sacrifice, hbp, single, double, triple, homer and grand slam. Along this same vein, I wonder if the following has ever been accomplished? This does NOT have to be hit in order( we don’t want to be ridiculous )…..solo homer, 2-run homer, 3-run homer and granny…..by one player in a single game?
November 4, 2021 at 2:23 pm #176207In order is called a “natural cycle”. According to this article, it has happened 15 times in MLB history, most recently in 2006.
That is good info. According to wiki two Cardinals have hit the natural cycle. Ken Boyer in 1964 and John Mabry in 1996.

According to the wiki link Brian provided above, this is called the “homer cycle”. It has never been accomplished at the MLB level but has happened at other levels.
A “home run cycle”—hitting home runs with zero, one, two, and three runners on base, all in the same game—has not been accomplished in MLB. As of 2020, only 18 players have hit four home runs in an MLB game, and only twice has one of the home runs been a grand slam. The home run cycle has been accomplished at other levels of play; examples include: Minor League Baseball, in July 1998 by Tyrone Horne for the Arkansas Travelers;[17] college softball, in April 2011 by Florida State Seminoles player Samantha Posey, sister of San Francisco Giants catcher Buster Posey[18] and in February 2019 by Arkansas Razorbacks player Danielle Gibson;[19] high school baseball, in April 2019 by a player for Perrysburg High School in Ohio;[20] and Little League Baseball, in June 2014 by a player in Elkton, Maryland.[21]
November 4, 2021 at 2:41 pm #176210Great stuff, Scotty! I wonder if a MLer has ever homered to left, center and right in the same game?
November 4, 2021 at 5:00 pm #176212I love talking about cycles. Hitting for the cycle certainly isn’t as impressive as some other hitting feats, but it’s notable because it’s a rare and neat sequence of events, especially when you throw in the natural cycle.
I struck out for the cycle in high school. Once looking, once swinging, once bunting foul with 2 strikes, once swinging and missing on pitch that actually hit me, and the fifth time when the ump rang me up before I stepped in the batter’s box to speed the game along. The ump also tossed my coach for sending me to the plate again. Many major leaguers have the platinum sombrero on their resumes, but not nearly as impressive as my cycle.
November 5, 2021 at 7:20 am #176226Three #stlcards prospects helped Glendale to a Thursday home @MLBazFallLeague win. Juan Yepez had two hits including his fifth AFL home run, Brendan Donovan scored twice and Lars Nootbaar took two free passes. (free) https://t.co/5aPyQ1i7GO pic.twitter.com/ixjvi26TRQ
