If I had to guess – and it is only a guess – him making the decision to exit feels more likely to me than someone else having made the decision for him. But absent of specifics, other than the Cardinals saying he accomplished what was needed (which was odd in itself), anything is conceivably possible.

Given his line it is hard to imagine what was accomplished. 4 uninspiring innings. Another philosophical differences dodge.

I heard on a Rob Rains podcast say that Gorman pulled a hamstring last week and is still recovering. That answers why we haven’t seen him on the roster for any of the past few games.

The thing I like about Yepez is that he’s generating power with a relatively low K rate (18.8%) this season.

Another positive about Yepez, as far as suitability as a DH, PH is he doesn’t have a noticeable platoon split. He’s good vs anybody.

According to an article by Rob Rains, “Left-handed pitcher Garrett Williams has been added to the Glendale roster to replace Hicks.” One more prospect to watch during the offseason!

Cardinals’ prospect Brendan Donovan trying to “get better” with Fall League experience

The lesson of the AFL…when a bunch of Cards play, the Desert Dogs tend to win. I’ve noticed that they lose a lot when the Cards are not hitting or pitching.

Williams’ addition was announced Saturday but he hasn’t pitched yet.

Pallante has quietly had a very good AFL. He could be a middle of the rotation guy, or at least power reliever to start his career.

I’m not sure the Desert Dogs have won many games where there weren’t at least 2-3 Cardinal position players and a Cardinals pitcher in the lineup. It’s clear that our prospects are carrying that team.

Very true, 25. It’s really good to see.
Looking forward to seeing if it carries over to ST. I’m especially excited about Thompson. He was good at the Springfield camp in 2020, almost as good as Libby, then they shot him all the way up to Memphis in 2021. After only 2 minor league starts. After only 15.1 minor league innings. Shell shocking. Looks like he’s settling in. Regrounded.

    Maybe the Ultimate Cycle?

I like it, ZTR! And so it shall be named. The Ultimate Cycle. Where in a single game, a player:

    -Singles
    -Doubles
    -Triples
    -Homers
    -Walks
    -Sacrifices
    -Hit By Pitch

I took the liberty yesterday to check with The Skipster and the fine folk over at the esteemed Elias Sports Bureau and lo and behold……this Ultimate Cycle has never been done in a ML game. This surprised me, as you would think with all of the long extra inning affairs over the years, that this marvelous feat would have been accomplished. I just got an epiphany of sorts….I clearly see Dylan Carlson being the first MLer to pull off ZTR’s Ultimate Cycle….wow and it’s a crystal clear vision….. it’s the 17th inning of a 2028 Cards-Mets game and Carlson is jubilantly staggering towards 1st base after being plunked on the noggin…….by a Cardinal left handed reliever.

What is it called if a player hits a single, double, triple, and homer in order?

In order is called a “natural cycle”. According to this article, it has happened 15 times in MLB history, most recently in 2006.

The “NUC”, or “Natural Ultimate Cycle”, would be walk, sacrifice, hbp, single, double, triple and……….what if we made it tremendously difficult and added a granny to the mix? And what would we call it? ZTR? So it would be a walk, sacrifice, hbp, single, double, triple, homer and grand slam. Along this same vein, I wonder if the following has ever been accomplished? This does NOT have to be hit in order( we don’t want to be ridiculous )…..solo homer, 2-run homer, 3-run homer and granny…..by one player in a single game?

That is good info. According to wiki two Cardinals have hit the natural cycle. Ken Boyer in 1964 and John Mabry in 1996.

According to the wiki link Brian provided above, this is called the “homer cycle”. It has never been accomplished at the MLB level but has happened at other levels.

A “home run cycle”—hitting home runs with zero, one, two, and three runners on base, all in the same game—has not been accomplished in MLB. As of 2020, only 18 players have hit four home runs in an MLB game, and only twice has one of the home runs been a grand slam. The home run cycle has been accomplished at other levels of play; examples include: Minor League Baseball, in July 1998 by Tyrone Horne for the Arkansas Travelers;[17] college softball, in April 2011 by Florida State Seminoles player Samantha Posey, sister of San Francisco Giants catcher Buster Posey[18] and in February 2019 by Arkansas Razorbacks player Danielle Gibson;[19] high school baseball, in April 2019 by a player for Perrysburg High School in Ohio;[20] and Little League Baseball, in June 2014 by a player in Elkton, Maryland.[21]

Great stuff, Scotty! I wonder if a MLer has ever homered to left, center and right in the same game?

I love talking about cycles. Hitting for the cycle certainly isn’t as impressive as some other hitting feats, but it’s notable because it’s a rare and neat sequence of events, especially when you throw in the natural cycle.

I struck out for the cycle in high school. Once looking, once swinging, once bunting foul with 2 strikes, once swinging and missing on pitch that actually hit me, and the fifth time when the ump rang me up before I stepped in the batter’s box to speed the game along. The ump also tossed my coach for sending me to the plate again. Many major leaguers have the platinum sombrero on their resumes, but not nearly as impressive as my cycle.
