I came up with $30,665 left

Actually, I forgot to figure in the overages in rounds 11 & 12. I used a spreadsheet this time.

This does mean Graceffo received $300k instead of $500k. Using $300k for Graceffo, and figuring in the overages means the Cardinals have $74,565 in room to sign Cabell and/or Casserilla, in addition to their $125k slot allotments

    Round Slot Value Actual
    1 $3,480,000… $2,750,000
    2 $1,340,000… $2,250,000
    CBB $906,800… $875,000
    3 $675,600… $600,000
    4 $478,300… $375,000
    5 $353,700… $300,000
    6 $270,300… $50,000
    7 $211,500… $1,000,000
    8 $171,200… $20,000
    9 $153,300… $75,000
    10 $144,600… $50,000
    11 … $50,000
    12 … $125,000
    SubTotal $8,185,300… $8,345,000
    5% overage $409,265
    Total $8,594,565… $8,520,000… $74,565

Yes Graceffo’s bonus was for only $300K. Jim Callis tweeted his bonus amounts but the amounts on the MLB’s draft tracker is wrong.

Brian’s article is wrong on the bonus amount and how much is remaining. The Cardinals have $55,455 remaining before incurring major penalties for over spending.

Brian, your article misstates how much Willis was given. According to MLB Pipeline, he was given a $1 million bonus, for a difference of $788,500.

Yes, the difference was listed as the bonus. Corrected now. Thank you.

P.S. In your spreadsheet above, you rounded the actual slot bonuses for the first two picks which affects your totals. The $55,465 seems accurate.

BlackHillsCard, Could you please post your draft spreadsheet? I have run the numbers and I can’t get the same result so I must be figuring something wrong. I think my problem is figuring the bottom ten slots and maybe the 5% overage that the team is allowed before penalties. Thanks for taking the time to post!

Yes, I used MLB Draft tracker, which had them rounded. Also transposed the 5 & 7 in Holgate’s bonus amount. The $55k is correct.

But it works, I was adding in the $125,000 for the other two unsigned players and it was throwing me off. thanks for helping me sleep better tonight! Seeing it on paper really helped! Thanks! (I’m an old geezer, so spreadsheets help me see things better!)

    Brian,
Have the FA signings of Noah Mendlinger and Bryan Pope not been officially announced by the Cardinals yet?
I noticed they have not been added to the Matrix nor can they be found with your search tool. I saw their signings on the MLB transaction page but didn’t know if it was official yet. Please advise.

Kind of surprised that we didn’t sign more undrafted free agents this year, but understand there aren’t as many places to put them since a few teams went away! Maybe if we don’t sign the last two draft picks they will sign some intriguing players! Many later draft picks don’t pan out, but with just 20 rounds this year, several potential players will be out there!

MLB Draft Tracker showing that Cabell is signed for $125,000. That just leaves round #20 pick yet to sign by Sunday!

Any relation to Enos Cabell, the very good player on the Astros back in the day?

Northwest Eaton’s Xavier Casserilla (@XCasserilla7), a first team @SportsDayHS all-area infielder, tells me he’s going to stick with his commitment to Wichita State rather than go pro.

He was selected in the 20th round (601st overall) by the St. Louis Cardinals.
