Well hicks going home makes zero sense to me. Better to get the work in now. Be better prepared for spring.

Does this say something about his psychological/emotional makeup?

In some ways Hicks looks like he is going to be Alex Reyes 2.0 for the Cardinals. A promising flamethrower with little control and can’t stay on the field.

Is Gorman injured? He hasn’t played the last few games.

I have noticed that Gorman has not been in the lineup for several days now. Is he hurt?

Were the Cards able to replace Hicks with another prospect? Seems like a lost opportunity for a young pitcher with more desire to get some experience if he was selected over Hicks.

It looks bad for a player to leave unless he was injured. C’mon Jordan.

UConn’s comment is for the rotation. In terms of the roster, it seems that Donovan was moved from the taxi squad to the regular roster so he can be available to play every day.

Adding another pitcher instead is nice conceptually, but not so much from the practical side. Minor league pitchers went home almost six weeks ago and most guys are not throwing. They typically use the early weeks of the off-season to recharge before starting throwing again early in the new year.

Cards players are doing an amazing job.
We don’t need much as far as outside additions.

I doubt leaving AFL was a decision made by Hicks.

Why do you think that, bling? No one is obligated to play in off-season leagues against their will. Not sure where you are coming from…

Lars Nootbar today…4-5 with a walk, a single, a double, a triple and a homer. Yep…he hit for the cycle.

A question for any who has been to AFL games in person: Are tickets easy to come by? Going to visit my son in Scottsdale during the week of Nov 10. Raised him to be Cards fan in New Jersey(his brothers went astray, Yanks and Phils…Phillies really?). It’s something we’ll enjoy while the girls go to the spa, or whatever.

I cannot imagine any reason he would choose to leave instead of working up his arm for the hoped for move to a starting role next year. Somebody imposed a pitch count I bet.

TSimmons, yes, AFL games are never sold out. You can get tickets at the box office. $7 each if my memory is correct. You can sit anywhere. Enjoy!

Thanks for the explanation, bb. Seems to me that it was a lot of commotion to go to the AFL to pitch just a few innings. From a PR perspective, if that was the plan, the Cards would have been wise to state that up front.

Lars The Man is lighting up the AFL. Maybe Carlson better do more than .243 vs righties next year.

Brian, I don’t dispute what you said, but I still cannot think of reason Hicks would choose to leave. Especially if, as you suggest, the Cards org went through some hassle getting him set up out there. Surely him walking out would not sit well. In his position he has to want it enough to do what it takes.

Not often that you see a super-cycle….well done, Mr. Nootbaar! Naturally our seasoned baseball posters here know what super-cycles and super-duper-cycles are. For all of you young posters out there, the super-cycle is where a batter induces a free pass, plus hits a single, double, homer and that ever elusive triple in a given game. The super-duper-cycle occurs when a player coaxes a walk, hits a sacrifice and hits a single, double, homer and the improbable triple in a game. If I may, I would like to add one more sensational feat. I’m not even sure if it’s ever been accomplished? Maybe this should be presented to our good friend Skippy, and all of the exquisite folk over at the esteemed Elias Sports Bureau. This being what I’ll coin the “super-duper-duper-cycle”, where a player is issued a walk, registers a sacrifice, hits a single, double, homer and the always difficult triple…..plus is hit by a pitch. We need a better name than the “super-duper-duper-cycle” that I came up with. Ideas?

It seems to me that Hicks wasn’t pitching that well in AFL, and didn’t want his stock to drop anymore than it has; so he ended his stay there. Maybe he wanted to pitch side sessions until he got the feel for his pitches back. What do you all think?
