Thompson has put together a good Spring. What we lacked last year was a middle reliever who could come in and throw 2 and third innings and give up no more than one run. Could this be Thompson? Spot starter? Starter?
Poor Kniz just can’t hit.
So what’s he doing on the roster? If he’s got some some catching smarts they could offer him a bullpen catching job, warming up relievers.
If Tres Barrera is gonna be the backup catcher, then why are they sinking around with Knizner?
I rather have Yepez get some work in at DHI see Dakota Hudson is scheduled to start today. Is he more than a #5 starter? He’s shown flashes, but not consistency.
He started 26 games last season and only tossed 139 innings , for about 5.1 innings per start. That wouldn’t be so bad if we had a top tier bullpen, but ……..If I’m not mistaken, in order to send PDJ to AAA he would have to clear waivers, right? But if someone claimed him, wouldn’t they have to pay his salary?

Oops, actually the BA for today’s game was .133. lol. Remember last season? We’d get 10 or 11 hits against a #4 starter. But throw a good arm at us (pun intended) and we get just a few hits. Miles Mikolas should have been a 20 game winner last season. Actual result: 12 wins

We know from experience that guys like Noot and O’Neill can thrive in fourth outfielder-type role. With a rookie, I think you want him getting at-bats regularly
If Walker’s injury is more of a threat to his throwing, rather than batting, I would slot him at DH, for now. That’s our biggest hole offensively, due the retirement of Phat Albert.
Don’t get me wrong, I’m ready, willing, and able to start drinking the Jordan Walker kool aid, but there is no way in hell he is going to bump Nootbar out of lineup.

With Yadi retiring, they pretty much have to keep Knizner, as strange as that sounds.
If Waino retires, it will be interesting to see how they manage the starting rotation. It will put a lot of pressure on Mo to extend a couple of those Abe eligible starters.They got rid of Mike Shildt for his playoff blunder, and they should do the same with Marmol.

If that is what 7th inning guys are worth, then I don’t fault the signingI wouldn’t mind them picking up a bat, of course. However, the greatest need is for a solid set up reliever.
What we need is a middle reliever who can pitch 2 innings and give up just one run in that span. You would think Hicks could do this, but apparently not. Maybe give him some longer opportunities in mop up situations. Otherwise, in situations where we are leading, he should be one and done.
I thought we were mercifully done with Ver Hagen a month ago, but I guess His ERA wasn’t high enough to lose confidence in him
As far as their analysis of Pujols, it doesn’t seem to be based on WAR, which sits at -0.4. In other words, if you blindly threw darts at a list of 4A hitters, you would likely pick up half a win over the remainder of the season.
I appreciate what Albert did for us a decade or two ago. And his greatest gift might have been going elsewhere for the great, highly paid decline
