Poor Kniz just can’t hit.
So what’s he doing on the roster? If he’s got some some catching smarts they could offer him a bullpen catching job, warming up relievers.
I got a couple of weeks worth of Austin Romine in ’22…I’m okay with Knizer as a backup for Contreras.

There is probably not a better option. Last year Tres Barrera hit .180, and Knizner hit .204. Even if Berrera hit a little better, probably not enough to change up a guy the pitchers are used to. Maybe Pages or Herrera will be ready to help out later in the year. But who knows.
Gorman had the chance to play everyday last year. It doesn’t seem like he will have that chance this year. Not unless he’s hot and somebody else is cold.
That seems like an incredibly hot take on things. Many players struggle in their first and second years.

LA, what are they going to do? Sit Donovan’s gold glove and .400 OBP ahead of Goldy and NA? No way does that happen. Gorman had a chance to play everyday last year and that chance is not there this year. He will have to take infield reps and DH turns as he can.
The way he is hitting in spring training, he will be the everyday DH. If/when an infielder gets injured or needs a day of rest, he will play in the field.
But people on this board seem overly pessimistic about what he’ll become based on a few hundred PA’s. And there are thousands of examples of why that is likely wrong.

That might be possible if Walker does not make the roster or if somebody gets traded for pitching. If Walker does make the team, then either Gorman or Carlson will have to sit or more likely, they will share the DH slot and each taking reps in the field as they come.
Starting Donovan at 2B won’t last a week and he will be off being the utility guy, working out of the DH role.
I’m guessing you meant Gorman, JJ? I’d have to say that Donovan will see more time than a week at 2B. At any rate, I hope he does.

If Gorman keeps hitting like he has this spring he will get 500 PA’s this year. If the DH AB’s are going to be between him and Carlson that should be an easy decision.
What is the attraction to Motter making the team? 33 never good. 404 career at bats. .191 Ba .262 OBP .571 OPS.
I think there’s a real possibility that they’ll stash DeJong on the IL for as long as they can to free up a roster spot to explore any additional options on the 26 man.
I’ve made up my mind on Motter and I hope he makes the team. My only reason is because I like saying his last name. I just wish his first name was, Manny…

As is also the case with DeJong, nobody cares what he did 6 years ago. Last year Motter OPSed almost .900 in AAA with 20 homers in less than 300 ABs, and he’s hitting this spring.
Those are Motter career MLB numbers. He is hitting .233 this spring. I know the 3 homers are a huge.
I looked it up and found info that tells me the Cardinals signed Motter to a minor league contract last Nov. I don’t remember that off-season aquisition, so obviously it flew under my radar. Must have been one of those contracts negotiated by GM Girsch. If Motter does good, Johnny may become a bit jealous…
