All spring games will be on this thread, rather than for each game as during the regular season. Let’s try to keep this thread to spring game-specific talk. Thanks.
The #STLCards Game 1 (Spring Training) starter will be Adam Wainwright next Saturday against the @Nationals on @KMOXSports. The Game 2 starter will be Miles Mikolas.#CardsSpringTraining

February 19, 2023 at 9:07 am #212887Wainwright.
That probably answers the opening day starter question.
February 19, 2023 at 9:08 am #212889If there really was such a question…
February 19, 2023 at 1:09 pm #212906So no surprise injuries so far this year? I really hate when a pitcher reports and it turns out he needs surgery that he should have got in October.
February 19, 2023 at 6:50 pm #212936They’re only throwing bullpens now Mr P, but its ramping up. It won’t be long until somebody gets shut down. “Out of an abundance of caution”.
February 22, 2023 at 7:42 am #213048The way things currently roll out for #stlcards pitching plan/calendar, Jack Flaherty (vs. hitters Wednesday) would be on schedule to start third game of Grapefruit League schedule.
Wainwright, Mikolas already announced as first and second game starters, respectively.

February 22, 2023 at 7:43 am #213049As a reminder, the TV and radio spring schedule is here.

ParticipantIf Flaherty is healthy, why wouldn’t he be the opening day starter?
February 22, 2023 at 9:49 am #213053Any news on other pitchers pitching the first couple games..?
I am trying to get to a game and see Woodford pitch. I heard a rumor he might go
after Waino..? anyone.?February 22, 2023 at 9:50 am #213054good question.. bccran.?
If he is to be our savior, and is healthy, he should be our #1 on opening day.February 22, 2023 at 9:52 am #213055Actually, lets just hope he gets through Spring Training..! and go from there.
As we all know, a shoulder is very tricky to get healthy.February 22, 2023 at 10:27 am #213056According to Denton, Woodford will pitch 2nd on Saturday.

February 22, 2023 at 12:05 pm #213064Just as a reminder, we have another thread focused on the regular season Opening Day starter. A lot of points have already been made there.
February 23, 2023 at 8:31 am #213107Connor Thomas will start on Monday against the Mets instead of Jack Flaherty. Flaherty will work in a simulated game on the backfields to focus on specific situations, not an unusual or alarming happening.
The plan for Tuesday is for Jordan Montgomery and Steven Matz to throw in a simulated game. Matthew Liberatore will start the regular game against the Nationals and Gordon Graceffo will follow.
February 23, 2023 at 7:19 pm #213135Notice that Woody doesn’t need to be working on stuff on the back fields.
February 24, 2023 at 2:29 pm #213166The pitching plan for each day is made available to the media that morning.
Reminder that tomorrow (Saturday) is Game 1! Noon CT on Bally Sports Midwest.
February 25, 2023 at 7:09 am #213180Available in the bullpen: Cabrera, Naughton, Thompson, Naile, Whitley, Woodford

February 25, 2023 at 8:31 am #213186DeJong at DH. Get him as many ST at bats and see what you have I guess.
I think this is a case of if they keep him he will continue to struggle and they cut him loose he’ll go somewhere else and be very good…..
February 25, 2023 at 12:12 pm #213197Well, I’m happy to see that I can find the ST opener on our cable set-up. Some of the chatter about all of the TV changes had me a little concerned that I’d have trouble navigating the fiasco. This game’s almost like a ST’ing for me in the sense that I’m getting back up to speed concerning finding which channel to tune into to watch the action…At any rate, I found it on Bally’s Sports Midwest which is channel #1748 on our TV system. The simple fact that I even have a channel #1748 tells me that something’s inherently wrong…Haha!
February 25, 2023 at 12:14 pm #213198Every time the Redbirds play the Senators, I feel like I’m watching a game in which the Cardinal opponent is sponsored by Walgreen’s…

I tuned in and wondered why the Cards were playing the Braves. I would’ve sworn it was supposed to be the Nats.
February 25, 2023 at 12:39 pm #213200Bucknor, Hernandez and Kulpa working the game. How often do you get 3 of the worst 5 umps working the diamond at the same time?
February 25, 2023 at 1:13 pm #213201Well now, I see that Donovan has hit the first homerun of spring training!
February 25, 2023 at 1:29 pm #213202Brian or anyone
Anyone have any contacts at all with Bally? Or the guys on the video crew?
I get that it’s the first ST game but can they raise the camera just a little so we can actually see the plate? Even a little sliver of white would be helpful
It’s never been this low
February 25, 2023 at 1:43 pm #213203Not too often, Euro, but now that Big League baseball has it’s foot firmly planted into legalized sports wagering, it make sense to get these three guys operating in unison with one another…One to make the outlandish and game changing call, one to decipher the one time pad signaling the location of the envelope, and one to surreptitiously make his way to the area of the dead drop…All of these things are meticulously planned and coordinated and require a well trained and practiced team to have them be carried out and achieved successfully…
