Cardinals tried being cure with this move and it backfired. Should have cut DeJong or a few others before Pacheco.

Unless there is a trade imminent they didn’t need the roster spot right now anyway. Somebody might end up on the 60 day DL in the next two weeks, who knows.

TCN’s very own staff doesn’t understand the roster move:

I wrote similar for members in an article on the homepage. Will also cover it with Danny Mac in the morning.

I don’t know that they were trying to be cute, but they surely lost faith in him. Stuff happens we don’t see.

His spin rate probably dropped off.

I admit to not being up on Pacheco goings on so I googled Freddy Pacheco just to see what’s out there. Came across a few things.

“Pacheco throws a 96.6 mph FF with great vertical movement (20.2” IVB) and a swing and miss gyro SL (55.7% whiff%) which tunnels well horizontally with the FF. SL could use a velo improvement (84.5 mph) and lack of CH are his biggest drawbacks”.

Ah yes, just as I suspected.

Also: “The Tigers may just want to take a look at his medicals to determine whether they think he’s headed for surgery on the elbow or not.” That elbow comment referring to this: “Freddy Pacheco cut a live BP short this week and experienced some tightness around his elbow. Cardinals sent him for imaging, nothing concerning popped up. He’ll be shut down for a couple weeks and then hopefully restart his progression.
    9:28 AM · Feb 25, 2023”

To kind of wrap up where it might go from here “Maybe Pacheco needs a few months of rest and rehabilitation. Maybe it’s a serious tendon or ligament issue. Either way, the Tigers can simply add him to the 60-day injured list as well, opening the 40-man roster spot he’s currently holding back up. Or they check him out and decide to move on as well. Or maybe it’s not so serious, and the Cardinals were just feeling the roster crunch at this point in the spring and weren’t going to wait around to find out.”

So it sounds like a possibility is the Tigers stash him on their 60 day IL all year without having to use a spot on their 40 man. Or they could move on like the Cards apparently did. Or he bounces back good as new and they give him a try.

Interesting that they cut Chambers so quickly. I’d guess he either came to camp out of shape or there was some kind of personality/behavioral issue since he only played one full season.

I’m guessing Chambers was deemed not ready for AA and the Peoria roster slot was needed for players moving up. Its hard to find space for guys to repeat now days.

Gomez is another guy the Rays sent packing, like Liberatore. Maybe they know something we don’t.

I dont think the Cards lost faith in him. I think it boiled down to him getting hurt so they tried sneaking him off the 40-man roster to avoid placing him on the IL and it backfired. They were thinking if he’s hurt then others wont claim off waivers. They were wrong.

Another way to look at it is that if they hadn’t lost faith in him, they wouldn’t have put him on waivers in the first place. They knew the risk was there of losing him.

With Pacheco on the 40 Man roster if the Cards thought he was Hurt they couldnt have optioned him out. They would be obliged tô put him on the IL I believe.

As it is I highly expect Pacheco tô filé a grevience.

I also suspect that their is more tô the Pacheco story than we know. Teams dont put gays with his kind of record on waivers unless there is more tô the story. Especially with 2 options left. Add in the fact the team hás stated that they are trying tô make their pitching staff more strikeout oriented. Why would you get rid of the systems best strikeout pitcher?

Maybe on field results doesn’t matter.

Picked this nugget out of a Ben Fred article on STLToday.

“. . . Motter depending on how his contract is structured could push the Cardinals to shop him if he winds up headed for the minors.”

    https://www.stltoday.com/sports/columns/ben-frederickson/benfred-journeyman-motter-would-be-cardinals-camp-sensation-if-roster-wasnt-so-crowded/article_ee63011e-b200-5203-a323-3ea5eedd6a4c.html

I posted another nugget from that article on the PDJ injury thread.

I see Dakota Hudson is scheduled to start today. Is he more than a #5 starter? He’s shown flashes, but not consistency.
He started 26 games last season and only tossed 139 innings , for about 5.1 innings per start. That wouldn’t be so bad if we had a top tier bullpen, but ……..

I think Dakota Hudson can be more than a number 5 starter. In 2019 he was 16-7 with a 3.35 era and 174 IP. I know that most folks consider the W-L record to be completely irrelevant but I believe that you must be doing something right to win 16 games. Otherwise that is a lot of coincidences and luck. Of course that was 2019. Since then he has dealt with some injuries and inconsistency.

When his sinker is working he can eat some innings. My observation of him is that he seems to lack confidence. He gets his head down and seems deflated sometimes. I don’t know if the metrics can measure lack of confidence but it is a real thing.

The pitch clock will alter Hudson’s routine, for better or worse. Its been forever that I hoped someone would match Flaherty’s performance, but we could use that from Hudson.

Well, I just checked the box score, so much for that. 5-0 bad guys after 1.

Should be a good game this evening, Bling. USA/Cuba in the semis on FS1. I watched last night’s 9-7 come from behind win for the USA team against VEN. Real entertaining game and Goldy/Nado each had 2 hits. Realmuto looked as though he was about to take matters into his own hands after being subjected to a HBP by Quijada in the pivotal 8th inning. The fellas in the stars & stripes are pretty amped up.

What does it take to watch tonight’s game? I don’t have any streaming services or subscriptions to anything. Just cable.

We have cable too, Bling. I thought it would be on the regular FOX network like last night’s game, but I just checked and it’s been moved to FS1 at 6pm. Anyway, I’m guessing that if you get BSMW, you get FS1?
