I’m pretty sure the previous comment has numerous spelling errors. I can’t begin to read it…

How will playing in this affect our guys and their spring training schedules and routines? Anything adverse going to come about as a result of their participation?

Established guys being out of camp will open up opportunity for others to show what they’ve got.

Wouldn’t mind seeing if Walker can actually play 3B.

Edman playing for Team Korea is surprising.

Walker is now an outfielder. Third base is in the past. I imagine Donovan will be the semi-regular third baseman while Arenado is away. Yepez at first. DeJong will get a reprieve at short.

Obviously, neither Walker nor Gorman were moved because they couldn’t play 3rd base. They were moved because they are MLB talent with no clear path to the big club. I am interested to see how well Walker can hit big league pitching. The ball coming off his bat, quite frankly, makes a different sound than all others I’ve seen play. He should have a tremendous career in MLB.

Edman is playing for South Korea and Nootbaar is playing for Japan.

My primary thought on the “World Baseball Classic” is that it no longer takes too long to attain the status of being termed a “Classic.” Whatever that means…

So I take it having an ancestor from a country means you can play for that country? That being the case, I wonder if the country would even have to still exist if people whose ancestors came from there formed a team.

The only way to be certain would be to closely examine the precise terms of the current CBA…

It is good enough to qualify if one parent is from that nation.

Expect a bunch of stories coming up in the media as Waino, Goldy and Arenado are having a Zoom session today with the local writers. The specific subject is WBC. (Personally, I am going to pass as I am busy with the 2023 Prospect Guide, but others will thoroughly cover it.)

P.S. Forgot to mention that final WBC rosters are coming out this Thursday, the 9th.

According to this article from VEB the other day the Cardinals have 12 players in the organization planning to play in the WBC. That seems like a lot to me. It could really disrupt our Spring Training.

    Dominican Republic
    Génesis Cabrera, pitcher

    Great Britian
    Matt Koperniak, outfielder

    Italy
    Andre Pallante, pitcher

    Japan
    Lars Nootbaar, outfielder

    Panama
    Wilfredo Pereira, pitcher
    L. J. Jones, infielder
    Iván Herrera, infielder

    South Korea
    Tommy Edman, infielder

    United States
    Nolan Arenado, infielder
    Paul Goldschmidt, infielder
    Miles Mikolas, pitcher
    Adam Wainwright, pitcher

I am too lazy/disinterested to read articles and do research. I don’t suppose we can watch these games on TV? Does anyone have any idea? Not that it matters I guess, since there is zero chance I have whatever pay service it might be on.

All games will be on FOX, FS1, FS2, FOX Deportes or Tubi. The 47 games played across the two-week tournament will air on one of the FOX networks.

Ok, I can figure out what channel numbers those are and if I get them or not. If I do get some of it, the next step is getting one of my grandkids to set up recording some games so I can watch. Finally, I will need to get my wife to remind me that I have games recorded and help me figure out how to get them playing on the screen. Thanks.

Does one parent have to have been born in the foreign country, or just have immediate ancestry from that country?

I don’t know what the qualifications are, but you’d think if that player were genuinely representing the country that he played for that he would be required to hold citizenship from that country. Either that, or print a nom de guerre on the back of his jersey…Haha!

For me this is just a distraction. My only baseball interest is the Cardinals.

The World Baseball Classic’s website sells tickets for these games. Apparently there are only four cities where games are played: Phoenix, Miami, Tokyo, Taichung (a city in Taiwan)

Guessing MLB bought a blanket policy so the players would participate. Yet Kershaw has an insurance issue that caused him to back out. So maybe it is team by team instead. That is almost certainly why this Angels reporter checked.
