Mikolas extension makes me think CMart is worse off than expected. Also makes me think Wacha probably won`t be brought back when he hits Free agency after this season.

I never count on him for anything.Whatever you get from him is gravy.Like finding a 20 dollar bill in your pocket you forgot about.

I wouldn`t plan on him being a factor early this season…maybe not at all.Plan like he is not going to be available….Be prepared. Its like the people who think Alex Reyes will jump in a pitch like he did before all his injury woes. With Wacha and his injury issues the Cards could possibly be down 3 SPs .Good thing the young arms are mostly still here.

Anybody that wants either Fowler or McCutcheon to get a large amount of playing time is out of their freaking mind.McCutcheon was good for a while a few years back…Fowler never been more than average and now he is albatross who needs to be gone or stuck parked on the bench and used as a PH.

With teams using 5 man rotations IMHO you won`t likely see a 300 game winner again.Getting 33 starts a season if healthy and winning 15-20 games a season will still take 15 years or longer in most circumstances. As for Bonds and Clemens I hope both never get elected. When David Ortiz gets eligible ihope he gets shut out also.

I like the signing because it isn’t super expensive,he has been very good to solid in the pen and he seems willing to fill whatever role that is needed. In the end I ask is he better than any lefty in the pen…easy answer ..hell yes.

Since some of the Sabernerd crowd on a couple of other sites and here dislike the Miller signing that is a big thumbs up for me.

There is a positive article on Fowler in the PD today.Just printed proof that Fowler will start in RF no matter how him or any other OF plays.Team doing everything possible to salvage Fowlers contract IMHO.I understand that..thats business. But the best player should play..not the one with the biggest paycheck.Competition for RF…LMAO what a farce.

Goldschimdt seems like a really good solid team guy.A good player to have.Thart said I question the wisdom of signing him for long term at 20-30 million bucks a year.He will be 32 at the end of 2019 season. As all the Harper detractors love o point out …big dollars to guys in their 30s can hurt the team..So you cant have it both ways.

To me the Harper decision stands as a foolish short-termed thinking happy with being on the fringes of contention type choice. No risk no reward.Sure its a long commitment but it also shows the fans that the team wants to be serious about winning. Are concessions prices going to drop or tickets get cheaper because Harper isnt a Cardinal? So BDW has a higher payroll this season.....how much of that is likely gone after 2019? Quite a bit.The garbage about going after Arenado is just that bluster and BS.He will likely want 25-30 plus million a year...Rendon wont be much cheaper .Then there is the chance that neither guy makes it to free agency and sign extensions. So what do the Cards end up with if Goldy,Wacha,Ozuna,Gyorko all leave after 2019? Possibly still looking for a 3B,Carpenter probably goes back to 1B,and plugs O`Neill into LF likely if the albatross (Fowler ) is still here.Since the Cards have seemingly chosen the safe careful frugal path again I expect nothing more than running in place chasing Cubs,Brewers, maybe Pirates with the Reds pushing closer to the Cards.

When will these freaking kids ever learn? So this is the 2nd time suspended and he hasn`t ever even thrown a single pitch for the Cards organization.

Ian Kinsler just got 2 yrs 8 million total from SD.I would expect Descalso to be a bit cheaper.

I think ONeill could hit .400 with 5-6 HRs next spring and Fowler will still be named starting RF.This FO doesnt have the guts to sit Fowler. He will get more chances and chances so the FO can save face and try and recoup their moneys worth.

paying Harper 35 million for his age 26-35 seasons makes a lot more sense than paying Goldschimdt 25-30 million for his 32-36 season. At least you would get 6-8 years maybe more peak production instead of paying for the likely downside of Goldys career.

It is just baffling that the FO shows little or no foresight IMO.After 2019 Goldy,Wacha,Ozuna Wainwright, possiibly Carpenter and Gyorko could be gone.I expect Carpenter to stay but Gyorko? So there is the possibility that Cards could need 3B (if Goldy leaves Carp back to 1B)LF -could plug O`Neill in LF.Then you also have aging Molina,Lousy Fowler, aging Carpenter.Look at the money possibly coming off the books..13 million Ozuna,8 million Gyorko,2 Million Waino,8 Million Wacha,Gregerson also I think. So the uncertain corner OFs ,uncertain corner INF and the continued hoping Molina can stay healthy……..lots of hoping.
Then anybody thinking the Cards will be players for Arenado are just fooling themselves. He will want huge dollars also and he will be under 30 also.Anthony Rendon won`t be cheap either and he will be right at 30 years old.It all comes down to Dexter Fowler and his albatross contract hamstringing and de-nutting this front office.

Jager- you are preaching to the choir.I agree with you and think he is worth a chance since he is just heading into his prime years. But no……too many refuse to take a chance and prefer to live in fantasyland and think Fowler will rise up to average and JMartinez will figure what a baseball glove is for.

Why worry? Cards dont need help in RF-they have the Great Fowler and Granite Glove JMartinez. One cant hit or field and the other cant catch a cold. Two garbage OFs while ONeill likely gets hosed over because the FO doesnt have the balls to do the right thing. Also Cards dont need a 26 year guy who can probably get better heading into his prime years because they don`t want to pay the money or length of contract.Well its their money and their choice so it is what it is.No risk no biscuit.

Cards have already outsmarted themselves.Signing Fowler. The contract that’s sucks the air out of the room and the life out of the team.

FWIW if you think Fowler is getting raked over the coals on this site then go to Cardstalk .He is getting torched because of his not appearing with the Cards and having a signing in Cubbieland another day.
