Nice post Bccran
You showed a big part of the offensive woes this year.Too many guys are underperforming and not enough guys overperforming to make up the difference.Grichuk with his huge power potential is still working on better contact athough since his latest recall he has hitting 14-42 .333 with 11 Ks .Gyorko is fading fast,Yadi is too busy being disruptive and playing manager and batting in the wrong spot.Piscotty`s year has been a mess for several reasons,Diaz played himself back to Triple A,Fowler has been a letdown due to injury ?,Wong missed time and Carpenter has been a slug on the bases and acts like Eddie Yost too often.
Only Pham who has played above his head,DeJong who has been a pleasant surprise and has shown a little better eye at the plate have been positives offensively .So its not hard to see why the offense is anemic quite often. Why Pham? because he`s oldest next to Fowler. He has overachieved so far this season. He has a injury history and eye problems.Plus Cards have many other OF options who are younger and probably more talented. If possible I would send Fowler packing also………but he has the NTC.Phams value is peaking and MO messed up by not taking advantage of that by using Pham in a package trade.
Wouldn`t bother me to see Molina and Matheny gone next season.MCarpenter,Pham,Wong can all go with them.
I just don’t see how anybody can feel that this current team as it is right now is a serious realistic contender for anything other than staying at .500. Horsecrap offense, incompetent management, inept field management, unreliable bullpen,a catcher who thinks he ought to be manager and a team that can`t even run the bases worth a damnor play decent defense. Other than that everything is just peachy in Cardinal land.
I think it would be pretty dumb to trade some of the near ready pitchers and re-sign the 30 year Lynn.Agree with you that it puts pressure on the slumbering FO to actually wake up and do something to help this team in the offseason.
You would have
Carlos Martinez
Leake
Waino
Wacha
Weaver
Flaherty
Gant
Gallen
Gomber
Pearce
Gilmartin
Poncedeleonall competing for 5 spots.
What kind of message does it send to the fans when the FO comes up empty again? What about the players? The players have to know this team has flaws and needs some help yet nothing is done to help this season.I understand the long term view …………..I really do.But you also have to give people a reason to hope things will get better real soon. Not trading Lynn …………was it a case of now getting good enough return or was it being afraid of trading Lynn might say ” we give up on 2017″ to many fans?Sometimes you have to take a chance instead of hoarding al your toys.Just very disgusted with management due to a lack of help brought in.
July 31, 2017 at 3:38 pm in reply to: Trade Ideas/Acquisition Ideas/Non-Cards Rumors – 2017-2018 #29201I noticed all the moves the Cards made today to try and improve the bullpen and the offense. The FO delivers again.Watch out Cubbies……..
If Yadi wants to make up the lineup and decide who and when to play then he`s needs to retire and become a manager.Otherwise shut up publicly and keep it in the clubhouse.
And Rome burns while the FO fiddles. No risk no reward.Only a true optimist really thinks this team is a serious contender. The 2017 model definitely needs to be overhauled………..running on a wing and hope only goes so far.
July 31, 2017 at 10:05 am in reply to: Trade Ideas/Acquisition Ideas/Non-Cards Rumors – 2017-2018 #29158Watch the Cards end up with a Luke Gregerson or Jim Johnson or a Kirby Yates for the pen.All could be had fairly cheap……..and IMHO one of the OFs goes in the deal.
July 26, 2017 at 9:55 am in reply to: Trade Ideas/Acquisition Ideas/Non-Cards Rumors – 2017-2018 #28750Trade Pham now…………..while his value is high.He is the oldest besides Fowler and his NTC.Pham should bring a good bullpen guy or a good prospect for 3B.Lynns value is probably at a high right now so why not deal
Pham can be replaced from Grichuk,Bader,Piscotty ,Sierra,O`Neill and Lynn can be replaced by Weaver or Flaherty,Gant or Mayers.July 22, 2017 at 10:14 am in reply to: Trade Ideas/Acquisition Ideas/Non-Cards Rumors – 2017-2018 #28307I appreciate what Pham has done but why not see if he has trade value?Grichuk and Piscotty`s values are probably down due to poor seasons.Fowler has the NTC.Martinez has little value as a 4th O or bench bat.
July 22, 2017 at 10:08 am in reply to: Trade Ideas/Acquisition Ideas/Non-Cards Rumors – 2017-2018 #28304Why not hold on to Tyler O
Neill? Jeez people the kid just turned 22 at AAA and has plenty of potential and power and his plate discipline has improved. You want to trade somebody.......then trade Pham while his value is at its peak before hes gets his annual injury .Great trade.Gonzales was probably going to end up in the bullpen in STlouis IMHO.Tyler O`Neill was Seattle #2 prospect so the FO did okay at first glance.Agree with most of you guys about this is just the 1st move with others still to happen.
How do you know Reyes will return and be a effective starter? Nobody knows that yet.He could have to be a fill in long reliever until arm strength returns completely.Waino while pitching a little better is still aging and less effective.Wacha shoulder issues although he has been very very good lately. So there are stil possible issues with the rotation.Having Weaver,Marco and Flaherty and Gant nearby as a safety net is a good thing.Gallen,Hudson jst a step behind the others and Alcantara might have good stuff but he`s getting drilled quite often,Pearce is a finesse guy and Gomber also.Mayers will be a bullpen guy IMHO.
I thought the Marlins management said Stanton isn`t going anywhere this season.Might be willing to talk trade this offseason.seems i read tthat on a trade rumor site.
Just called Scout and cancelled my subscription which was paid thru October 18th .Asked about a refund for the balance not used and was told no refund because I cancelled.I said so you people are screwing me over about the difference. What a bunch of scumbags at Scout. After refusing to give a refund the person then said “have a nice day sir”.
I really doubt Cards FO would make a deal like Stanton.Too much money and cost too much in players and prospects. That`s not Mo and Managements style.too risky and too costly. Not happening.I still say a deal for a Lucas Duda or Logan Morrison type player will be about as big a risk Cards make.
Brewers made a deal and acquired a LH bullpen guy from NYY.Cubs got Quintana……….what`s happening in Stlouis………………………….empty space so far……….
Counting on Reyes could be a major gamble…….no one knows if he will be the same pitcher when he returns.Cards still have question marks in the rotation with Wacha,Waino, and Lynn all being inconsistent.Weaver,Gonzalez in AAA could possibly fill spots but neither have been outstanding in chances to start.Still need to trade for a controllable bat using any of the players needed except the kids.I would trade Lynn,Carp,Gyorko,Pham,Piscotty,Diaz,Wong etc for a controllable bat.Wong,Lynn and Oh package……..I like the thought of trading Lynn and Oh…still on the fence about Kolten Wong.If Wong gets traded who starts at 2B? DeJong? Certainly not Carpenter. He did okay at 2B a couple of years ago but……..?
As much as I like Lynn 17 million is nuts. That`s just crazy.Cards have kids waiting in wings to try for rotation spots.Lynn,OH,Carpenter, Rosenthal,Grichuk, even Gyorko should be avaialable for the right price. This bunch is simply running in place not a serious contender.Thats my opinion.
Of course I really doubt the FO would be forward thinking enough to really look ahead past the end of their noses and do anything radical like shaking up the roster.I expect a ( we tried to trade for a impact player but the cost was too high…..) press conference after a very low level trade.Just like the Kevin Bacon scene in ANIMAL HOUSE……….”remain calm……..all is well…all is well. The mantra of the team is still close club.
Trading Piscotty would be as foolish as expecting Tommy Pham to last a full season and be productive.Just don
t see it happening.Piscotty is younger and still can be a solid player with some upside.I think Pham is at his absolute peak right now and will only regress.Grichuks struggles have probably dropped his value a bit and Pham is probably viewed as a half-season wonder …….So who are the Cards best trade chips….Gyorko and his versatility,Lynn because he is a pitcher who can be very good at times,Oh because he was good last season and possibly be solid in several bullpen roles,Wong if he comes back healthy could be a chance for a contender.I would hope Mo and FO consider doing something to improve the team besides just hoping for better play.Don`t see Mo and management making any kind of BOLD TRADE at all .I think Cards would do something like a Duda for Marco Gonzalez and a mid-level prospect .That’s what I would expect from the front office.
Good point Eurowolf………………nobody really did much today from the OFs.
