No problem and I remember the article.I just wondered if there was info to see who was available offhand.Thanks.
I see your point Brian- but is data the only way to judge or predict? There are always intangible factors involved that can`t be measured on a stat sheet .It might be old fashioned and flies against the prevailing statmania analysis but I think you also have to do the eye test..Can what this ballplayer bring to my team help us improve and what will I be willing to pay for that?Apparently the Cards choose to probably not go the Harper route and I wonder if most of that is because of the Fowler mistake and his terrible contract. That is a MO mistake and has and will likely cost this team.
Damn. Thanks for the heads up.I missed it.So is there a way to find out who is available for the minor league part?
Pham better than Harper…………….Crazy talk Card25.Harper has had more good seasons before 25 years old than Pham will have in his entire career. So far Pham has had a PARTIAL GOOD SEASON and a good MONTH.nothing more.I bet all the pitchers in MLB would rather face Bryce Harper than the great and powerful Tommy Pham .
I got the server error message a couple of times yesterday but things seem okay right now.
Yeas we all know for a fact Harper won`t get better in different surroundings. He will just be another average player who peaked at 23-24.So we can all be satisfied with the likely rental of Goldschimdt and the albatross in RF.Pardom me while I go puke.
So you don
t think Harper would have helped make everyone around him better?Tommy Pham better than Harper ?LMAO,Peralta better? Jay,Wong,Adams all better? You cant be serious? This kind of thinking amazes me.On their best days Wong,Pham,Peralta,Adams etc are not the player Harper is.RReed-Everybody had to get their Street and Smith for Baseball and for football.Remember the Baseball guide Stats book? The little Red Covered book that still comes out every spring?Had Stats for nearly every MLB player.Oh hell yeah..Cheryl Tiegs…..she is still damn fine looking. My age bracket too.LOL
BM-we agree to disagree. As for baseball-educated opinions- I call out the fact that way too many of these so-called educated opinions are purely stat related and fail to take in to account intangible unkown factors that fans, writers don`t notice or see.I trust people who played the game and are involved in the game more than some stats weenies who are enraged.A group of HBs peers and people who dealt with him constantly voted him him the HOF.I bet the same people raising hell about Baines probably raised hell about Bill Mazeroski (if they even knew who he was?).
As for steroids versus greenies etc,….I see what you are saying but IMHO adding something to your body to change physical chemistry (greenies, coke ,pot ..it changed the player) Steroids changed the player..so steroids might have been a longer lasting effect but the fact remains all were body altering. Its like degrees of effect is how I see it.I certainly wonder about the hypocrisy MLB shows and did show when the steroids thing was happening.MLB certainly wasn`t complaining when McGwire/Sosa got people interested in baseball again and when HOMERUN derby thrilled the fans.Anyway It might be apples to oranges to you but we agree to disagree. Not a big deal or a problem. After rereading your article on possible pitching in rule5 I checked out some of the players you mentioned and a few do seem like possible solid bullpen options for either late 2019 or 2020
.Luis GonzalezTyler Jay look like possible future help.Waddell is kind of intriguing also.MLB.com mentioned Foster Griffin a high KC pick from few years back LP who lost velocity in 2018 but is supposed to have good stuff.Maybe Cards can find that elusive LHP for the bullpen in those hidden gems?
Brian do you expect the Cards to pick someone in the minor phase? Best guess?

CC-anyone who ever subscribed to the Sporting News was well aware of the Winter meetings. Most newspaper covered the meetings somewhat by running baseball info during the meetings.
Well like TC said-boring snoozefest. Can`t wait for the usual ” we worked hard but no deals that we liked came to pass but we felt we laid the foundations for further discussions BS”.
December 12, 2018 at 9:54 pm in reply to: Trade Ideas/Acquisition Ideas/Non-Cards Rumors – 2017-2018 #77285Read that Cards are finished at the meetings. If so then IMO what colossal waste of time. Now I know some will say that its a long way till Spring training …..that may be so but Talking the talk without walking the walk is just BS and bluster.Sitting on their asses and patting themselves on the back because of getting Goldschmidt doesn’t cut the mustard.Action not BS excuses.A disgruntled fan.

December 12, 2018 at 5:13 pm in reply to: Trade Ideas/Acquisition Ideas/Non-Cards Rumors – 2017-2018 #77233So far the Winter meetings have been a big snoozefest concerning the Cards IMHO.I realize the meetings are not finished but the meetings as a whole have been very dull with little real movement by almost every team.SLow Slow ……….Hope that the dominoes start falling soon. Its like everybody is waiting for something to happen….I have read about a boatload for trade rumors by the usual suspects and as usual the Cards rumors are mostly few and far between. All in all the winter meetings this year have been about exciting as watch paint dry.
Looks like a depth trade IMHO.Like Brian says-Robinson likely on the Memphis shuttle as needed.Oganizational guy.Every team has some of those that stick around the fringes of the Roster.
December 11, 2018 at 7:19 pm in reply to: What is wrong with Dexter Fowler and what should be done? #77074Well said Mr Reed.Spot on.
Maybe this and Urias being added to the roster means Edmundo Sosa will be dropped from the 40-man now?
Definately kind of underwhelming move.Like others said..there must be something someone in the Cards saw to make this deal.A little more versatile than Wisdom and hits from the left side.Thats all I got.
