Winn should just be told play defense and the offense will come along.I suspect some will blame Contreras and say Herrera should start.Patience with any players us in short supply in some quarters.
I often wondered what Ted Simmons thought about some of those 70’s Cards teams.Sure the Cards had some solid players but it never seemed like both the hitting and pitching were working together at the same time.I often wondered if Gussies tightwad ways caused much of the players problems.I remember listening to a Cards-Reds game on radio (Reds broadcast until dark enough to pick up Kmox) and the Reds were beating the Cards like 10 to 2 in the 4th or 5th inning when Joe Nuxhall said McBride sent several notes to the official scorer complaining about a call his previous AB.Nuxhall said that is a oerfect example why the Reds are a winning contending team and the Cards were filled with too many guys only wanting their stats .
Everyone’s favorite whipping boy is gone.So who will be the target from the peanut gallery this season.Gorman?Gray?…Goldy?…..of course the Sainted Walker will get a free pass if he has a sophomore slump .
IMO the Cards will try and sign a middle of the road veteran for 8-10 million and roll with the kids.Unless they sign a tyler Mahle who is coming off TJ surgery and will miss most of 2024 and sign him to a cheap 2 year deal hoping he can maybe pitch in September 2024 and be nearly full strength 2025.I don`t see big FA money spent by the Cards.Trades or low cost arms.
Mo did okay during this trade deadline.Nothing flashy or spectacular just okay. Now we have 2 months of seeing if the kids can handle the big leagues.IMO the Cards will run thru the fringe BP guys and i expect lots of turnover with the Memphis shuttle
Isn
t the Qo around 19-20 million? I don
t feel Montgomery or Flaherty are worth that.Makng the offer in the hope that it would be rejected is the type of risk that usually blows up in the Cards face.I liked Montgomery but 19-20 million is too much IMHO.I think i prefer taking a chance with the young arms.IMHO this gives Liberatore,Hudson,Thompson and maybe Graceffo and McGreevey a 2 month period to show what they can do.I find it amusing all the crying about Hicks….yes he had some good games……yet this was a guy probably 75% of the fans wanted to dump.
Nonsense.Cards got prospects for guys becoming Free agents.
As for judging pitching talent……these prospects were all ranked by several services.Being so shortsighted that a person can`t see that Cards seem to have done okay today by adding a batch of young ranked prospects for 3 guys who could possibly be signed again as Free agents .Brian-What is going on with Travis Honeyman? Most other draftees are playing but nothing on Honeyman.
A disgusting lackluster team at the moment. So when is anything going to be done?SO is THE FO asleep at the wheel or just gunshy ?CHickencrap and timid is not a formula to win with.
Good. Now put him in the rotation and go with it.Give him a real shot at establishing himself.Taking his lumps now might help by being a learning experience for next season.
July 29, 2023 at 8:00 am in reply to: what would constitute a successful run to the trade deadline? #229649It is time for MO to crap or get off the pot.Waiting for the perfect deal till the last minute just could fall thru and end up with nothing done to help next season. Not saying just give the players away….just be pro-active instead of being the last man to the table.
Scott has been a pleasant surprise at Double A……let him continue to build his confidence there.Next spring AAA.
Thanks for the updsate.
Already seeing fans on Cards talk bitching because Cards have not signed any UDFA college players yet.
Agree.Sell and build for the next few years.
Trading Gorman a 23 year old power bat who is still developing would be total stupidty.Rather see Nootbaar or Carlson traded instead.IMHO Edman,Carlson,Nootbaar,O`Neill,Moses Gomez,DeJong all should be trade options along with Montgomery,Woodford,Hudson,Gallego,Flaherty,Stratton,Hicks,Cabrera etc;.
This season is toast anybody….THE FO will not admit that but does anyone really see a long winning streak happening?Sounds like a name from a Grade B Western from the 1950`s
Now get Jack Hurley OF (Virginia tech) if he is available in round 3.LH batter with speed ,some power and good contact.
not enthused about the pick.Hope he works out but.Liked Waldrep better. Now he is a Cardinal lets hope he keeps improving.Just surprised Cards picked corner OF since there are doubts about Davis in CF.
okay with the Contreras signing mostly…a year too long IMHO but you got to go with the flow.Still got prospects to make another move for SP or Bullpen or LH bat.I wanted Murphy instead but we have to trust that the FO felt the trade cost was too much.
I am a bit shocked Cards added Reyes to 40-man.Why? With his lengthy injury history the odds are poor that he will be able to contribute anything next season,Why not chance him going unclaimed and then work a out a minor -incentive deal with him?
I don’t see any real need to protect Thomas or Gomez. Thomas has never even pitched consistent at AAA level and who would keep someone like that on a MLB roster all except as a long man all year. As for Gomez 174 Ks in 442 ABS is a huge question mark. He is not a great defender and for a team that seems to be wanting more contact and less Ks then Gomez doesn’t seem to be the answer IMHO. I would take the chance and see if they got claimed.
thanks for fixing the problem.Wondered what was going on ?TV preachers, redbirds….?
Could be worth a low cost 3-4 million deal ….younger version of Kim?
