Thanks 25.
May 3, 2019 at 10:12 am in reply to: What is wrong with Dexter Fowler and what should be done? #89741The difference is Fowler is making 16 million and can`t play defense and will likely find his real level …about .250 -.260 .
Martinez is poor defensively but can hit but where`s the power gone? Thanks I appreciate that.Got on here for a few minutes before heading to the basement to check about a leak in the chimney that has been worked on twice before. You know the saying “**** happens”.
Had some other things that have been keeping me busy.Just a lot of the usual everyday crap .Seems like when something breaks or goes bad around the house a whole pile of other stuff follows right behind.
O
Neill had a bad game against one of the best pitchers in the league..so what?I sure didnt see anyone else doing much of anything either.O`Neill has been doing okay in the roles he has been asked to do so far this season.Being shortsighted and reactionary over one game is flat out dumb IMO.Send One of the 900 pitchers on the staff to AA if Gregerson is brought up.Not a fan of this move.He is a 33 year old with shoulder issues. What happens if his shouder goes out again and he can
t throw at all? He is barely adequate throwing now.He is blocked at 1B and what good is a rag-armed guy who cant throw at 3B? I don`t like this at all.If he plays well this season then renew his option next season. But why extend him now? What is MO doing ..trying to have a senior player monopoly.BHC- it could well be a misfire for the Cards.Ozuna did do something last season production wise.So far Alcantara,Gallen and Sierra have done nada for the Marlins.Key word is SO FAR.I expect Gallen and Alcantara to eventually be useful to Miami.I think Sierra will end up being a guy who rides the Triple Express back and forth to Miami and never proves more than a 5th OF type.
Well said NJ.My point was IMO the Cards could have gotten the prime years of Harper versus Goldy after 30.I probably did not explain myself clear enough. Not a big deal.Goldy is here and heres hoping for 6 great years from him.
You miss my point Brian…….Besides being snarky at me…….. I simply ask why harper was not considered since most players hit their prime in their late 20`s? You imply that Harper maybe we have seen the best of harper……..I disagree. For the record I have nothing against the Goldy extension.Glad he likes the Cards enough to stay for the long haul.I really hope he stays consistently good and boring.
Since we don
t know future results yet then all these discussions are nothing but discussion.Matt Carpenter is poor at 3B,adequate at 1b,can`t hit anywhere but leadoff and is a liability n the basepaths. He walks a lot and he strike outs a lot.His brainlock about hitting anywhere but leadoff is silly.I like Carpenter but I think he is overvalued by many on here.
Considering that most players hit their prime in their late 20
s I think its a fair chance Harper can improve and raise his game a bit.I am not knocking the Goldschimdt extension I worry about extending a player over 30 years old.I do admit players are better conditioned and baseball is pretty much a year long job anymore.. players dont get real out of shape during the winter and use all Spring training to get in shae like the old days.Speaking of “hope” ..don`t we Cards fans “hope “Goldy can continue to perform well until the end of his contract? After his stats declined last season from the previous year?My mistake.Webb has been better versus LHB his career.Beck better versus RHB.I guess I had Shreve on the brain thinking about the Lefty being better versus RHB.Once again. My mistake.
I could be wrong but I seem to remember Chris Beck did okay versus LHB when he was in the Pen for White Sox.
He got sent out several days back didn
t he.Has Tyler Webb shown enough to be Lefty in the pen....arent his splits kind of backwards versus LHB/RHB?As it should be..Shreve just doesn`t show enough good stuff and the HR ball kills him.I hope he stays with the organization to see if he can figure out his problem but I think he goes elsewhere. After all he is a Lefty and throw with some velocity…he will get chance elsewhere.
So concerning the pitching staff one could think;
Luke Gregerson DL
Brett Cecil DL ?
Carlos Martinez DL ?
Chasen Shreve -possible waivers2nd LH in bullpen?
Tyler Webb or Tommy Layne ? Layne seems to have gotten Shreve syndrome with the longball this spring.Wainwright and Reyes both on the staff.keep the Memphis shuttle ready and keep the trainers room ready.
Well said- Onyxgem
Harper isn
t that good? A player heading into his 26-30 seasons..prime seasons...And comparing Carp and Harper....I like Carpenter and I like Goldy but I do wonder about the extension of a player past 30 when you could have taken a shot at a player heading into his prime. The Harper isnt that good nonsense is ridiculous.I like Goldschimdt and hope he will be worth the extension .I know Holliday worked out okay and he was 30 when he signed his extension. So I still question why the Cards didn`t get involved in the Harper sweepstakes where they could have a gotten a player heading into his prime years instead of past 30.
Good for Trout.Great player.Like others said…now Moreno needs to work on improving his pitching staff. They do have some young arms with potential but really lack established proven starters.
CMart ending up with 40-50 saves?I wonder if he will even pitch 40-50 innings.
February 27, 2019 at 8:52 am in reply to: What is wrong with Dexter Fowler and what should be done? #82927Fowler is lost cause. Can
t hit, cant field, can`t steal bases. So what the hell can he do? Cost a lot of payroll for minimum results seems to be his defining talent.Kiss his poster or bow to his awesomeness Squishy but the fact remains Fowler offers little to nothing and only a FO trying to recoup some of their investment is saving Fowlers underperforming self. What did he do…dyed his hair, partied with his buds…..yes….workout to get in better shape ..not so much.
