The feed was fine for me, but I was also annoyed by the closed captioning. It was bad even by the low standards we’ve come to expect for CC’ing over the years.
Gotta defend Busch, especially against division rivals.
It’s almost seemingly mental at this point… hopefully they can start stringing together wins asap.
5 innings, 3 runs for Waino. That’s about all we can hope for from him I’d guess. Now to get some offense against the guy.
Hopefully this can be a momentum builder for Carpenter…and the team. A lot of injuries lately have sapped the MLB depth but guys should start coming back soon. The bullpen, in theory, should pick up and the starters have looked better the second time through for the most part.
Poncedeleon was a bit walk happy but didn’t give up a run in 5 innings for Memphis last night. Good to see him pitching again at all, let alone pitching well. The offense didn’t do much though.
This team just has so many movable pieces. There’s certainly an average-ish defense without giving up a lot on offense between all these infielders. Of course, it’s on a manager to make that happen.
Hoping we can limit the damage Martinez does on defense with late switches, matching him against lefties, etc. It’s a shame Wong is off to a bad start (although he had a good game last night) because the team can use his defense up the middle.
While the players are responsible to perform, it has to become clear at some point that Matheny is a weak link. He seems like a good guy but he just doesn’t appear as though he’ll ever become a solid game day manager. Bringing Holland in was defensible…leaving him in to walk 4 batters was not.
While this team isn’t the Astros or Yankees…it has the talent on hand to win 90 games. With Matheny working his magic, I suspect 86 is about the ceiling. If they’re not on pace to at least meet that at mid season, I would call on them to do a very un-Cardinals thing and fire him mid season. Something to get a spark going.
That said…it’s not all dreariness just yet. But the ship needs to start sailing in the right direction, and soon, before the season slips away.
Martinez continues to be a liability at first. The dude can hit, but I hope we see some Carpenter there at times for a better defensive alignment.
An excellent first inning for Mikolas. I didn’t get the MLB package this year so this is the first I’ve had a chance to see the Cards play. Rooting for a return to .500 tonight.
I feel like the main beef is throwing his fellow teammates under the bus. It’s one thing to disagree with how a manager or organization treats you (although I don’t think the Cardinals did anything devious or underhanded with him) but to blast his fellow players seems to show a lack of character.
I would still maintain that his anger will one day be his (professional and possibly personal) demise unless he gets it under control. For his sake, I hope he does. He is a good ballplayer but that only lasts so long in one’s life.
I would think they will slow play him a little with the high leverage spots but who knows? Last night was tough but they should be able to get over it as professionals.
Brutal loss…in what seems to be a common thread for this team the last three years. Hopefully Martinez can right the ship tomorrow and the offense can push some runners across.
While I appreciate that Pham plays with that chip on his shoulder and that’s what motivates him, the article sure doesn’t pain him in a positive light. As his sister said, he’s an angry person and eventually, anger will destroy him. I sure hope he finds some peace soon.
Maybe part of the explanation for why Ozuna got put in LF while Fowler and his (theoretically) weaker arm was put in RF?
Looking forward to seeing how Flaherty fares in his first start of the new season. I think he could be a very solid pitcher for us. If things swing right, the back end of the rotation (Weaver-Mikolas-Flaherty/Waino) could be a place to pick up some wins on the competition. A lot of potential there.
Feels like Weaver may be our best pitcher at this point. Hopefully he will help get us in the win column here today.

Not the greatest start for Cmart today. Hopefully the bullpen can hold and the offense can score a couple.
I am looking forward to it. If nothing else, I believe this will be a transition year where we start to get a feel for what our next core will look like. We’ve got a lot of young talent, particularly on the pitching side, that should begin to appear on the MLB roster this year and hopefully will start to flash promise that we could be a legit challenger to the Cubs and Brewers for the next 5 years.
