I still think batting Yadi ahead of DeJong kills DeJongs chances of getting extra base hits with Molasses Molina in front of him.IMHO as a amchair GM and manager Yadi bats 8th all the time.
DeJong had a chance to run all he wanted after Molina cleared the bases.
I think it’s VERY rare for a hitter to be denied extra bases due to the runner in front of him. It would be as a runner that Molina would hurt him, ie when Molina doesn’t go home from 2nd.
Nice 1-2-3 inning for Martinez there thought the body language thought that ball hit by Bruce was gone…but it really wasn’t even close
Not the greatest start for Cmart today. Hopefully the bullpen can hold and the offense can score a couple.
Instinctively, I would normally hit DeJong ahead of Molina, too, but did you look at their spring numbers? Molina has been swinging the bat better recently and that is good enough reason for me. Did any of us look at their respective career batting marks against Syndergaard? I didn’t and I bet no one here did, either. We may not know what we do not know.
Actually, Bowman’s inherited runner scored % last year was 29.4% – identical to Lyons and tied for 3rd best in the pen after Rosenthal and Sherriff (both of whom had very small sample size – single digit chances, while Bowman had a team-leading 51). Among the relievers worse than Bowman: Cecil, Brebbia, Oh and several others not on the team by the end of the year.
Conclusion: Bowman had a bad day today, but was pretty good last year in a tough job.

Yeah, but Bowman ALLOWED the most inherited runners to score last year! Haha.
Holland doesn’t help much if you don’t have the lead. 🙂
But seriously, as I saw elsewhere, we aren’t going to win the pennant based on our #1 vs many other team’s number one.
Bowman gets lit up. Cecil allows another inherited runner to score. (Who scouted this clown!?) Mayer’s takes 19 pitches to get through one inning. Tuivailala gives up a run and takes 20 pitches to get through his one inning of work. What a way to start the season!
CC, I disagree. Holland pushes everyone down. Gregerson and Leone to set-up. Lyons to the 6th-7th potentially. etc. etc.
