An excellent first inning for Mikolas. I didn’t get the MLB package this year so this is the first I’ve had a chance to see the Cards play. Rooting for a return to .500 tonight.
i’m enjoying the consistency of the batting order. I suppose gyorko being DL limits the juggling of starters.
Mikolas gets tagged for a couple in the 2nd inning to fall behind 2-0. Cardinals get thrown out twice already on the base paths (Fowler and Ozuna) trying to stretch hits into an extra bag. The odors from last year just won’t blow away.
More in the oven now. Fowler and Pham on 1st and 2nd with Carp up and two outs. This is where you really need your 3 batter to deliver. Let’s go Carp.
Ozuna delivers the goods after Carp walks to load them — a 2-out, 2-run single on a 2-2 pitch after falling behind 0-2. Cards up 3-2 with runners on 1st and 3rd for Martinez, however he grounds out to end the inning.
Martinez continues to be a liability at first. The dude can hit, but I hope we see some Carpenter there at times for a better defensive alignment.
How can that be scored a hit. A better throw gets Villar and even with the low throw Martinez should have caught it. I hope the change it to E-6
