ZTR, I wonder if the answer is coachability! Winn really struggled last year and seemed open to changes he needed to make! I think any hitting coach worth his salt can see the issues with Walker! I am sure they have been discussed! Perhaps Walker is unwilling to make changes? Every time he goes down and comes back up I see no difference! What is the point!
The other simple answer is hand/eye coordination! The great hitters have it, others don’t! This is where I think Gorman is lacking! Winn has it, so he hits well when he shortens up with 2 strikes! I’m sure there are other reasons too! I to believe Walker is fixable, but he has to be willing to make the needed adjustments and someone has to demand them!
858, my point was, and still is, by bringing Walker and Gorman up before they were really ready we have greatly decreased there trade value! When Gorman first came up he was on a hot streak at Memphis, but the word was he hits it hard IF he doesn’t K! Walker was simply brought up before he should have been!
The problem with both is, they can’t hit! Gorman is never gonna break any records other than K’s! Yes if you have a great lineup you might be able to hit him 8th and say we will take the 200 k’s to get the 30 homers! Our lineup is weak already, we can’t use that!
Walker is more salvageable, IMO! If someone demands he brings his left foot over and he learns not to open his hips up on every pitch I think he might still hit at the major league level!
The point is we could have packaged them both for a Logan Gilbert or Garrett Crochet and gotten a solid number 1! Now that ain’t happening! Will someone still trade for them? Sure, but the return will be far less because we have exposed there weaknesses to the masses!

August 21, 2024 at 9:02 pm in reply to: StL 2024 Game #126 thread – Wednesday, August 21 vs. Brewers #265136My cardinals and the brewers are a study in opposites
One team Can do it
One team can’tBrewers are built better
Play harder
Are managed better
Believe in each other
They play “a hard 9” as TLR used to say!
We have lost our way, they have found theirs!Gorman should have been sent down months ago! By promoting both Walker and Gorman too early we have shown the other 29 teams and us that they can’t hit and now they have very little trade value! We can’t win for losing!
August 20, 2024 at 9:30 pm in reply to: StL 2024 Game #125 thread – Tuesday, August 20 vs. Brewers #265029Please, please, please, don’t resign Goldy! He is done!
August 20, 2024 at 9:17 pm in reply to: StL 2024 Game #125 thread – Tuesday, August 20 vs. Brewers #265022And then Goldschmidt and Gorman do what they do with RISP!
August 20, 2024 at 8:50 pm in reply to: StL 2024 Game #125 thread – Tuesday, August 20 vs. Brewers #265012ZTR, I hate to say it but it just proves the Brewers have a better organization than we do! From the top to the bottom! They call up a Tobias Myers to start and he pays dividends right away! We had one pitcher come up and impress (McGreevy) and haven’t seen him since! They are developing players at the minor league level who can come up and contribute at tbe major league level! What a novel idea!
August 20, 2024 at 7:37 pm in reply to: StL 2024 Game #125 thread – Tuesday, August 20 vs. Brewers #264986I don’t think there are many MLB teams where Nolan Gorman could have stayed at the major league level for the whole season! He has just been awful! I doubt he could hit at AA much less AAA! Why they continue to stick him out there is beyond me!
ZTR, your observations above are spot on! I hope we do not resign Goldschmidt! Give Baker or Burleson a chance! There production and clutch hitting can’t possibly be any worse than Goldschmidt and they won’t cost as much!
We all went into this season thinking Gorman, Goldschmidt, and Arenado would be a solid 3,4, and 5 and Walker would add a 4th dangerous bat! They have all flopped! You simply can’t win when your predicted 3 , 4 and 5 all flop!
What concerns me is next season we really have no one to bat 3,4 or 5! Winn will lead off, Burleson will bat 2nd I presume! Then what! Luken Baker maybe ! Contreras maybe! We simply have no one good enough to bat in any of the 3 big lineup spots and that means we can’t win!
August 14, 2024 at 7:22 pm in reply to: StL 2024 Game #121 thread – Wednesday, August 14 at Reds #264309This lineup is unwatchable! Major changes needed to have a fighting chance next year! Walker hasn’t improved one bit! Shoulder still comes wide open, even on outside pitches! Left foot still in the bucket! He can’t and won’t hit major league pitching without drastic changes! Gorman is a lost cause! Strikes out 42% of the time, gotta be some sort or record! I don’t even know if things are fixable at this point!
August 12, 2024 at 8:55 pm in reply to: StL 2024 Game #119 thread – Monday, August 12 at Reds #264034Keep Coming Back, I agree! This is a total organizational failure IMO! I wish we spent more money but lots of teams compete with way less spending than we do! We need some new young minds to come in from another organization that succeeds with much less money and rebuild this whole organization!
What troubles me is when most organizations fail at the top, they get rid of them and start over but we seem afraid for some reason to do that!August 12, 2024 at 8:32 pm in reply to: StL 2024 Game #119 thread – Monday, August 12 at Reds #264031After tonight we are about as close the basement of the NL Central and we are to a playoff spot! If I had to bet which one of the two we might get, it ain’t gonna be the playoffs! lol!
August 12, 2024 at 7:11 pm in reply to: StL 2024 Game #119 thread – Monday, August 12 at Reds #264009Using OPS+ we are 29th out of 30 in hitting with RISP! Thank his for the CWS’s! It’s just pitiful!
August 12, 2024 at 6:54 pm in reply to: StL 2024 Game #119 thread – Monday, August 12 at Reds #264003lol, ya think! It has been so bad all year we have just gotten used to it! For me, if it’s not Winn or Burleson up with RISP I just basically give up! I think back to 2012, 13, 14 when we hit with RISP! It was a beautiful thing!
August 12, 2024 at 6:28 pm in reply to: StL 2024 Game #119 thread – Monday, August 12 at Reds #264001Nope but the strikeout with the bases loaded and the double play, yep! It’s what we do!
August 12, 2024 at 6:04 pm in reply to: StL 2024 Game #119 thread – Monday, August 12 at Reds #263999This team is the most inept I have ever seen with runners in scoring position! At this point you know what’s coming before it even happens!
Gorman is currently striking out 42% of the time! That is beyond terrible! He needs to watch or go to Memphis! No argument for him being in the lineup! Matt Carpenter would be a better choice and that shows how really bad Gorman has become!
August 5, 2024 at 9:19 pm in reply to: StL 2024 rescheduled Game #37 – Monday, August 5 vs. Mets #2631991TD, I do not like Oli and wish he would be replaced, but I don’t think even TLR could win with this group of hitters! It is just pitiful to watch day after day! They simply can’t hit when it matters!
August 5, 2024 at 6:35 pm in reply to: StL 2024 rescheduled Game #37 – Monday, August 5 vs. Mets #26318715 and 26 in out last 41! Seems we have reverted back to last seasons look! I think out bullpen has been way better this year than last, our starting pitching has been better also! The hitting and more specifically hitting in the clutch has been miserable! We can NOT go into next year with this group of hitters! Goldscmidt will be gone for sure but we need help here!
