Yeah, might need a veteran EMT squad before it’s over.

They have to FIRE Mo! Then hire a real manager! I’ve been a fan since 1982, I even was a batboy in 87, and I bleed for this franchise and it makes me sick, 2 strait years of pure CRAP! Pure CRAP, I thought we had solved this problem but all they have done is have a respectable first half and now you score zero meqningful runs in Cincinnati. They were under 500 but give em a few series with the Cards and they are right back in the wildcard race. Thanks for trading off all the young hot players that were the future of this team, they’re all killing it elsewhere while we’re stuck with garbage. It looks like we’re the Cleveland Indians of the 80s.

Thanks for trading off all the young hot players that were the future of this team,

I agree that a UT on the DL and a 5th OF represented “the future of this team”. And now that future is gone. I need a reason to live.

I doubt they fire Mo, but I am starting to come on board with the idea as well. A lot of boneheaded decisions from our FO. I honestly don’t know if there is any other team that would have called Walker up to platoon against LHP. Walker needs PAs to continue his improvement, and riding the pine for a team who is out of it and has been lucky to be over .500 at all this season per run diff isn’t going to help.

Would like to see Bloom and Stubby take over sooner than later.

Before anyone is allowed to take over I’d like the owner to hire an outside consultant to help identify why the organization is floundering and then also suggest potential hires from organizations that have had sustained success.

These would be in the form of a report and suggestions for the owner to consider.

Isn’t that kind of what Bloom was hired to do?

That’s exactly what Bloom was hired to do. IMO.

I spoke with Bloom 1-1 for a long time on the back fields this spring. He was in watch and learn mode and asked me as many questions as I asked him. He wasn’t jumping to any conclusions. Whether his findings include outside hiring recommendations is unknown, despite what the above posts suggest. At the time, his focus was supposedly “organizational structure,” which isn’t the same as personnel evaluation.

I also do not know how encompassing his focus is – whether just player development or Mo’s entire responsibilities or something in between. This is a very important question and the answer today could be different than it was in January.

How he presents his findings (formally vs. informally), when (on an ongoing basis or at once) and to whom (Mo or DeWitt or both) are all unknowns. But my strong impression is that he is working with Mo, not functioning independent of him.

One thing I am sure of after talking with Bloom. You won’t read about his findings in the newspaper. That will frustrate impatient fans, who are already complaining that he is showing no results, but that is the smart way to work.

My guess, and it is only a guess, is that any changes driven by Bloom will occur in the off-season. But we may never know whose ideas were implemented.

Of course, totally independent of Bloom is a trend toward a second straight losing season. So whether or not Bloom is here, they are going to have to do much more than they did last year if the season ends as it looks now. This downward spiral can no longer be called an aberration.

From the “misery loves company” department, since the Pirates series during which the Cards somehow managed to win one of three despite scoring just three runs in 27 innings, the Bucs took a nose dive. They are 4-14 since then with a current 10-game losing skid. Even Skenes isn’t enough for them to win every fifth day…

Luckily the Brewers have been losing some games or we would be buried worse.

We all went into this season thinking Gorman, Goldschmidt, and Arenado would be a solid 3,4, and 5 and Walker would add a 4th dangerous bat! They have all flopped! You simply can’t win when your predicted 3 , 4 and 5 all flop!

What concerns me is next season we really have no one to bat 3,4 or 5! Winn will lead off, Burleson will bat 2nd I presume! Then what! Luken Baker maybe ! Contreras maybe! We simply have no one good enough to bat in any of the 3 big lineup spots and that means we can’t win!

Yep, that’s an accurate statement. Not many teams could overcome their top 3-4 hitters losing 20-40 points of expected OPS+ in the same year. Contreras has been unexpectedly good, but that’s not going to solve all.

Contreras wasn’t that much of surprise the way he ended the season last year.

The offense would be tolerable I’d PG and NA even hit to 2023 lows but they’ve managed to one up themselves.

The ownership already said that they have limited resources or even it appears almost none due to the unknown financial situation they’re in. I suspect it’ll be the same this off season. Goldy comes off the books and his salary gets pushed to Gray. My guess is both Gibson and Lynn are bought out of each option and you have Pallante and our buddy Matz as the filler with (insert prospects) minors guys waiting in the wings. That will free up money for a possible bat. I also feel like some that Gorman and Nootbaar are on borrowed time. A couple of the pen guys won’t be back either. A righty or two for the pen is a must get.

I had been thinking along the same lines 858 is about Gibson and Lynn not being back. $20M spent on a couple 5 innings guys and we stink and probably miss post again. BDW won’t waste the money again next year. Given the we po narrative, they may not hire anybody and just go with the laundry list.

If Mo and the FO get whacked, then all bets are off.

We are now 9.0 games out of 1st place. The Brewers won over the Dodgers today 6-4 at Milwaukee.

In my view, this year’s edition has been incredibly mundane and tiresome with the exception of the games in which Lance Lynn has taken a turn in the rotation. He hasn’t always been real good, but at least he provides the sort of entertainment that can justify the price of a ticket. When I watch a baseball game, I want to be entertained. I want to see, “The Show.” Lance has been one of the very few players on this team that has provided a show worth watching.

I like Brian’s comments about talking to Bloom in the Spring, especially the fact that Bloom asked him as many questions as he asked Bloom. That is good insight, and tells me Bloom really wants to know what has transpired here and get familiar with the organizations successes and failures. He is seeking input from any source he can get.

To be successful, a CEO or top level manager will have advisers that contradict them on occasion, not a bunch of “yes” men. I recall a quote I heard years ago – if two people always have the same opinion, one of them is not needed.

I doubt Bloom buys that its nobody’s fault. He may be working in conjunction with Mo, but I believe he reports directly to BDW.

This is directly from John Denton’s article when Bloom was hired.

“Bloom will work under Mozeliak, advising on a variety of baseball-operations areas.”

I find myself in a real quandary. For a long time, I’ve gotten much of my recreation and enjoyment from
following the Cardinals. But at present, with the boring play of this team, I’m at a low ebb in interest – where I haven’t been since the 90s.
I wonder how many long time fans feel the same.

What happens with me is I root for individual Cardinal players, and usually have another team I hope wins it all. It is never the same as when the Cardinals are competitive, but I will find a team I like. This year it is looking like the Guardians. I will probably be rooting for them to go deep into post season. It helped that I went to a game in Cleveland this year.

In the ‘70s, it was real frustrating as we had so many former Cardinals playing well for other teams. But my favorite Cardinal was Ted Simmons and I would follow him. I liked Bernie Carbo a lot for awhile, plus guys like Bake McBride (another guy traded) and Jerry Mumphrey (also traded). Those speedy outfielders playing on the carpet were fun to watch.

On this current team I like Contreras and Winn (I played a lot of shortstop in you younger days). I have also been an Arenado fan since his days out here, so kind of tough to see him slide like he has. I like Siani too – it has been good to see his progress. Hope he can come back and keep the momentum going.

Yeah, there’s baseball outside of StL. I’m leaning towards jumping on the KC bandwagon. It’ll be like old times when I rooted for Brett, McRae, Wilson, little Freddie Patek and rest of those Royal teams of the mid to late 70’s against those hated Yankees. Those were some really good best of five ALCS action.

I don’t jump on bandwagons and I don’t root for other teams.

I’ve been a fan since the early 60’s and the bad times (like now) simply make the good times that much more enjoyable & special.

I’m guessing you can enjoy a baseball game that doesn’t involve the Cardinals? If so, do you ever root for one of the two teams to emerge victorious?
