Keep Coming Back, I agree! This is a total organizational failure IMO! I wish we spent more money but lots of teams compete with way less spending than we do! We need some new young minds to come in from another organization that succeeds with much less money and rebuild this whole organization!
What troubles me is when most organizations fail at the top, they get rid of them and start over but we seem afraid for some reason to do that!

It’s a weird season. This game was about what you would expect despite our records, as we are last in the division in run differential at -53, while the Reds are +45.

But we have exceeded expectations. However it is not surprising to see us trend down to more of our expected record.

Not too late, but there is not much to hang your hat on with this club. We are a bit top heavy with older decking players, and our young guys have not progressed enough to carry the club.

Now just one game above sea level. That’s a lot better than last year, but it doesn’t feel like it to me — maybe because this team isn’t exciting to watch most games. Not good is still not good. The organization seems lost and out of touch. Nibbling on the margins in areas of insignificance is about all they know to do. I imagine Bill and Mo waking up every morning taking a westward walk to watch the sun rise. The Cardinal Way has disappeared.

But, but, but – “We have improved!”

I guess one way to look at it is if they improve from 71 to 81 wins this year and 91 next year it’ll be great?

I’m guessing Walker looks like pretty much the same guy in the field and at the plate.

With 16 of our 25 roster players over 30 how can we expect to get better next year.

Don’t waste a space on Crawford or Carpenter.

Goldschmidt likely won’t be back, but if he is, it should be at a salary less than $5 million.

They definitely need two corner outfield bats. Whether Walker is one of them remains to be seen. He has a month to prove he is.

Trade Matz (and eat half the salary). Possibly decline the option on Lynn (though his numbers aren’t much worse than Gibson’s, he does seem to invite more traffic on the base paths). Ideally, we would trade Mikolas, but that won’t happen.

Middleton likely won’t be back, or will be back at a reduced salary. Armstrong won’t be back.

If ever there is a time for the Cardinals to change their tune and eat some salary – next season is it between Arenado, Matz, and Mikolas.

Don’t hold your breath Z, and Gray and Fedde (and Marmol) are looking like next year’s bad contracts. Then there is Contreras, depending on what we are thinking of him by then.

BTW, I haven’t noticed where Bloom has done us any good.

If there was a stat called “fizzle rate”, we’d rank well this season.

To me, this team’s fate was sealed not when they blew that big lead in the 9th inning of Game 1 on our recent trip to Wrigley, but rather the very next day, when they had the opportunity to redeem themselves. The overall talent on this team is mediocre, but the playoffs were still a distinct possibility if character and the intangibles were strong. They weren’t. Still love this team. They could go 1-161 and my love wouldn’t waiver an inch.

    How about 0-162?

Ha! 0-162 would put a serious test to my love for this team, ZTR. I think I would need that one triumph to get through the long harsh winter up here in the frozen tundra. Let’s hope we never find out.

We don’t even know what he is allowed to do.
