Bottom of the 9th 1 out bases loaded and ends with two consecutive strikeouts. Par for the course. Our batters are overmatched by almost all pitching now. Time to burn it down and build it back up from the ground. I’m willing to endure three years or more of cellar dwelling if that’s what it takes.
At 12 games back on an Aug. Tuesday night, 30K’s not too bad, but it’ll certainly worsen if the team’s fortunes continue to spiral downwards. Once fans lose all interest and refuse to waste their money and time, the Redbird bosses will either bolster the product, or offer the team up for sale.

Note to selfIf only opposing pitchers would throw some Texas League mistakes Gormy could hit them into outer space. The launch angle and exit velo would be legendary and we would read about it in the morning and see it on the highlight reels.
Gorman’s problem is that he can’t hit, not really, he can launch a mistake is all. ML orgs have a book on him by now. Don’t miss over the plate. Err on the side of missing out of the zone and risk giving him the occasional walk. Most of the time he will just flail away and get himself out.
They have a book on Walker too. Don’t get it center in. He won’t put the sweet spot on it anywhere else. He too is optimized to launch mistakes into orbit. Lay it in there and the exit velo has the gun groupies wetting themselves with excitement. That makes him a top prospect. The development system’s pride and joy. Mission accomplished.
Neither one of those guys are ML hitters as of yet. All you have to do is move the pitch around. Age old philosophy gets them both out consistently.
IMO, what was even worse than Gorman striking out with two outs and the bases loaded was what happened just before.
With two on, the Brewers actually walked the bases loaded so they could face Goldy with one out. That would have been unheard of before this season.
A single to the outfield would have ended the game right there. But Goldy couldn’t even put a ball in play, let alone hit a fly ball to score a run. Then when Gorman was the last chance, we all knew what would happen. Fishing low and away for strike three.
In 1975 I heard George Kissell, the burning bush of Cardinals baseball, tell Tom Burgess the manager at Johnson City they won’t sign a kid who can’t square up a fastball, so the first they have to learn is how to foul off everything else.
Obviously most or all of 100 years of how to play the game has been lost.

Ha! I’d give you a year and change before you’d start whining how it’s taking too long.
They won’t commit to a full rebuild. If next year we are in the same situation at the deadline I could see them pulling a 2023 and get rid of expiring deals or guys they don’t want to extend due to financial constraints but you won’t get a haul back when your best players like Winn, Donny and Burly are young and cost controlled assets. We already have seen some of the returns on the 2023 semi sell. Not exactly stellar.

I think the Wednesday with Walton podcast talks about that. Which I planned on watching right after work but I got volunteered to watch the 6 month old grandson for a couple hours. Somebody better do the lineup or it might be late.

I saw the replay of Scott2’s miscue…… what was the verdict of the Card’s announcers? It looked like Walker could’ve made that catch.

85booyah, “Ha!” is right! I’ll be complaining the whole way. Didn’t say I’d be happy about waiting three or more years, just that I’d endure it. But I’d let them know the whole time that our patience has run out. Cards used to be revered for their farm system and their knack for acquiring players, but they seem to have lost that over the last 10 years or so. Will take years and new management to re-establish it.
