Excellent debut for the young McGreevy. It wasn’t long ago that he was verging on being a non prospect, but he’s pitched well this year in Memphis and now in the show.

That was a real nice premiere Big League performance from the 24 yr. old RH’er. Hopefully he’ll get another turn in the not so distant furture.

Can McGreevy have long term success without a major league fastball. Looks like nearly 90% sliders, sinkers, and changeups. Worked well for one game but can that be successful long term?

McGreevy reminds me of Zac Gallen! Seem similar to me!

Siami has a way of effortlessly gliding to the area in which the baseball is headed in a manner that reminds me of Devon White when he was in his prime with Toronto.

Yeah, Siani is really impressive in the outfield. Seems to know exactly where the ball will be and has no trouble getting there.

Well it was a blow out alright, but with the good guys having the big number. Always liked McGreevey but did not expect this from him. Seems today if you cannot throw consistently in the mid 90s no one wants you. Maybe McGreevey can find success in an old school sort of way. I think Fedde is similar, but brings the heater maybe a couple ticks higher on the gun.

Taking a gander at the Wednesday late afternoon out-of-town scoreboard:

The Braves down the Brewers today in Milwaukee. 6-2 Atlanta the final at County Stadium. Redbirds now five games out of first.

The Yankees win over the Phillies. 6-5 Yankers the final at Connie Mack Stadium in Philadelphia.

The Cubs and Reds are later tonight at Crosley Field.

And out west, the Doyers and Padres hook up at Jack Murphy Stadium. Kershaw and Cease on the hill tonight. Should be a good one to watch.

And Bernie Sanders still running in 4th place in the race for the White House. Front Row Amy gaining steam. Expect her to pass the woman from Uganda, Kimala, sometime soon.

CC I remind you that Wainwright didn’t have a high velo FB after he blew out his elbow. And other successful pitchers like Greg Maddux never did.

They should have traded for Pham or a rh bat like him in June….would have added some length to the lineup

I could jog my memory and jot down a long list of guys who had tremendously successful careers despite not having an overpowering fastball to complement their assortment of pitches. All of the names on the list would be what I term pitchers.

100 mph and can hit the backstop 2 out of 3 times. Sign him up.

I think she is actually from Oakland. Perhaps an A’s fan?

If you have a slow fastball (oxymoron) you need total command of the fastball you do have. McGreevy had it today. I saw him and Graceffo pitch back to back days 2 years ago. They were the same except Graceffo was in the mid nineties all day.

Love the story Uecker tells where when he was first scouted he was a pitcher. He was at a tryout and scouts were watching him throw. Uek said he felt good and was throwing well, and a scout goes, “Okay good – now let me see your fastball.” 🙂

Cards have a tough road ahead. I heard on the radio recently that based on the records right now we have the fourth toughest remaining schedule.

But you gotta play ‘em, and playing the best “will sure help us in October” as a certain manager might say.

Sanders will never overtake Bernie Carbo in the polls. Carbo’s gaining all kinds momentum and is fully expected to PH for the slumping Camela…

Bernie Carbo was one of my favorite Cardinals for a couple of years there in the early ‘70s. I was a teenager and playing in a local league and patterned my left handed swing after Carbo’s and had a lot of success with it. He had a great stance and swing – real balanced and “quiet”.

That is my main concern. The easier part of the schedule is about over and all they have done is tread water, when they should have been moving up. Time will tell if the trade deadline additions will help them change their trajectory.

According to Bernie himself, Carbo’s story has not always been a happy one, but by most accounts, he seems to have straightened out his life while he still had time. I’m also sure that some recall that Keith Hernandez claimed under oath during a federal trial that it was Carbo that introduced him to the other side of the…”white lines?”

McGreevey w/a GmSc of 65. Second highest SP GmSc, of the 2nd halfs 12 GS.

Yep, that is correct 1TD. Carbo made some bad choices as a young guy and Hernandez followed down the road for awhile.

A lot of us did some stupid things in our youth. I was not perfect by any means and lived the “good time Charlie” lifestyle for awhile. Fortunately both Carbo and Hernandez, not to mention yours truly, pulled themselves together and are doing well these days.
