It’s Goldschmidt that doesn’t want an extension. He wants to go out and get some real money from a team that has a chance to win the WS. He knows that will never happen in St. Louis.
Anyone could use Goldschmidt. He’d make a great DH and it would help the Cardinals with their bottom line.
Well, I never thought of that before but the owners really are on top of things. If you finish in last place, lower the payroll. That’ll solve everything and the best part of it and I’m sure they’ve thought of this, is that they can’t finish any lower than last so we can’t be worse than last year!
What I expected; same old cheap Junior. Could be another long frustrating year.
The article was amusing. “St. Louis as an appealing destination for free agents?” (permission to chuckle) Appealing only if they have no interest in winning.
Beganovic’s article confirms what I’ve said for years. No matter how bad the Cardinals are, there will still be 3 million plus buying tickets. There is no reason for Junior to panic and spend. If they finish last in 2024 they will still draw over 3 million. Junior owns the best team in baseball if the goal is to make millions in profit every year. Spoiler alert: That is Junior’s goal.
Game Card, you are right and I know the solution.
We need to trade Edman for Skip!

You are right of course, you never know. But I don’t think there’s any danger of Robertson becoming Bob Gibson or even Gallegos who is slipping badly. Robertson is fodder until they find real pitchers.
I don’t see Robertson as an integral part of the Cardinals bullpen or anyone else’s for that matter, for years to come. He pitched 19 innings in 2023 and gave up 15 earned runs for an era of 6.04. That is hardly the swing and miss, lights out pitchers that the Cardinals are apparently looking for. He’s not even depth if depth suggests that the pitcher is actually good. If he is on the opening day roster then the FO truly doesn’t care if they finish last again.

He’ll make them WS contenders every year and they might have 2-3 titles out of it. The Cardinals couldn’t do that but a few teams could and that’s why the Cardinals will always be an after thought in these days of baseball financing.

It’s tweak and not tweek and I can’t see where they have changed their model at all. If they truly were changing their model then they would have signed Gray, traded for Glasnow and traded for Cease. That is changing your model. So, far and they could still do something more, but so far it is buy cheap and rely on Memphis. That has not worked for a decade and will never work in today’s market. If they want to put a team on the field that can contend and not just compete they need to remove the word budget from their vocabulary. They need to spend up to about 250 million then they’ll be ready to play baseball.

We dumpster dived on starters (Lynn and Gibson) so why not relievers.

Mo is not a seasoned leader at least not one that brings the team success. He’s just been at the same job for a long time. Junior keeps him on because he keeps costs down and profits high then spins the off-season to convince the fans they were trying.
Mo needs to do three things.
1. Trade Carlson
2. Trade O’neill
3. Trade EdmanThen he can go back to St. Louis and start his vacation.
Yes, Edman should be traded. Please Mo…trade Edman. It’s the last good thing to do this off-season.
Gray would be our best starter because he’s clearly better than all the rest. He’d be a number two in the number one role if the are done. With Cease it’s a toss up.
Anyone with a pulse and any brain wave activity at all is intellectually superior to the humans comprising the Cardinals Front Office.

Excellent point. I’ve always said that some on here confuse what they want to happen with reality and they think the two are the same thing.

Isn’t that a bit generous?
November 23, 2023 at 11:27 am in reply to: Trade Ideas/Acquisition Ideas/Non-Cards Rumors – 2021-2023 #238020There is no reason to think they will get another starter. Mo said he wanted two and I think he added two. Let me check…Lynn is one…Gibson is two…yes, that’s two. He could surprise me but don’t be shocked if he’s done with starters. After all, he said two, starters but he didn’t say they’d be any good.
How are they set to have a very good 2024 or are you just hoping they will?
It’s hard to get hurt by a one year signing. My fear is that they will consider this their top pitcher acquisition for the off season. I hope not.
Carlson is just another prospect that missed. Most of them do. Get rid of him and move forward.
