That would be utterly amazing, JJ….if this was 2013 and not 2023. But, it does appears Martin still has something left in the tank. Martin is not the guy, but I’m thinking it has to be a reliever……doesn’t it?

O’Neill to the Red Sox for an ice pack and a family size bottle of Advil sounds fair…Maybe Johnny will demand a jar of horse liniment to sweeten the deal?

Too bad it’s not Don Robinson and Ron Santo…

Is it good that no BoSox names are mentioned? 😉

Maybe Johnny will ask for TO to leave behind a poster of a post-workout pose. He did seem to be smitten with the guy for a while. TO has all the “-abilities” except which one?

Two arms and 5.5mil in salary relief.

That’s the long road traveled to reclaim O’Neills’ 24′ salary, but it reaped more in return than non-tendering him, as i suggested. Hat_tip to Billy Mo for doing the work.

Offseason war chest should total 24-ish mil now.

It’s Randel Grichuk all over again. I hope Robertson turns out better than Leone.

Robertson looks really interesting. I think there’s a lot to like with him long term. Several good pitches with plus strikeout capability. Victor Santos looks not interesting at all and I’m really confused why they took him since we have no spots available for him in the AAA rotation. Maybe he can be an ok reliever?

Nothing but a salary dump. Two pitchers coming back that aren’t even prospects. Tyler should be embarrassed that no teams in the league think he is worth anything.

If Mo didn’t have to send a prospect or money along with O’Neill its a win. I wish Tyler well.

Now we have to think about what happens with that slot on the active roster.

That slot’s reserved for Manny Motter…

A healthy O’Neill will be a nice player in Fenway. He’s got the tools, elite power, great speed, good defense. Just never could put it together with our club save for the 2021 campaign.

Hope he stays healthy and does well with the Boston Americans. Meanwhile I hope one of those hurlers can give us some quality innings.

I don’t know about anyone else, but I’d have to guess that Johnny may be a little apprehensive and uneasy about O’Neill’s future with the Red Sox. Johnny won’t impress the baseball world as much of a whiz-kid if Tyler goes to Boston and tears up that LF wall at Fenway. And O’Neill will undoubtedly get plenty of media coverage if he indeed does rip 35 or so taters over the top of the Green Monster…Haha! At any rate, Johnny may be a little nervous.

A healthy O’Neill is an All-Star next year, but the guy just can’t stay healthy. At one time I commented about O’Neill and Mickey Mantle in the same sentence! And while Mick had his maladies as well, he was an iron man compared to Ty.

Mo is philosophically apposed to pay for one distant past season. If O’Neil hits 40 bombs at Fenway, is he then worth Boras’s asking? If we sign a $6 million reliever like Matsui, Maton, or Staneck and give O’Neil’s at bats to Nootbarr and Donovan, aren’t we much better? I would bet money on Burleson giving more value over the next few years than Tyler could possibly produce in his one remaining season plagued with injury and angst from being bombarded with questions like, “Do your injuries and constant strike outs justify the Cardinals questioning your value?”
Tyler has improved his strike out percentage to the point he was able to match Josh Baez last season.

I could see O’Neill pummeling shots off the Monster next year and being an All Star. I could also see him striking out 35% of the time and missing 80 games with leg injuries. It’s sad that we only got one good season out of him but sometimes the body just can’t hold up to the speed and power of professional sports no matter how muscular or athletic one is.

    So long, Robocop!

As long as his manager, Alex Cora, and the fans in Boston are okay with O’Neill pulling up on those fly balls hit his way instead of diving for them, he’ll do fine.

Good trade! Don’t really care who we got really! Addition by subtraction IMO!
