You probably need to do some homework, willie.

    2022 – Wacha was 11-2 with a 3.32 ERA and 1.115 WHIP
    2023 – Wacha was 14-4 with a 3.22 ERA and 1.161 WHIP

    I don’t trust Wacha.

We should still get Monty, Gray & Schmidt.

The reason our rotation isn’t good is because there were three guys back around 2020-2021 that we thought were going to be the anchors for a few years. And not one – NONE – of them has worked out. Those three are:

    Flaherty
    Hudson
    Liberatore

And because of them three we are where we are.

I’m of the mindset that it really won’t matter what changes are made to the 5 man over the offseason. My guess is that just so long as the current leadership is in place, this team’s fortunes will continue to rapidly deteriorate. And I don’t expect the misfortunes to be confined to a simple W/L record. I fully expect something that could be featured on some sort of a bizarre afternoon tabloid talk show. It could get really strange in ’24…

They’re set to have a very good 2024 pending strengthening the pitching staff. And they’re starting to move on that. Better days are ahead. Let’s see who else they get.

How are they set to have a very good 2024 or are you just hoping they will?

. Let’s see who else they get

Or who they trade. Lots of off-season still left. I can’t decide about the LL deal. I sure didn’t expect it.

It will be interesting to see whom they trade. Probably O’Neill for sure. Possibly Carlson too?

It would be kind of funny if we end up with Montgomery, Wacha, and Lynn as our three FA signees.

Well, it would actually be tragic.

That would actually fit, Pads. All guys they know on the field, in the locker room, and in the community.

Along with Mikolas and Matz that would be zero starters under 30.

Still need the swing man. Maybe a reliever.

Well, Gibson is slightly better than Flaherty.

With the additions of Lynn and Gibson to replace Wainwright and Flaherty, the Cardinals probably improved by at least 1-2 wins over 2023.

I think we get worse since more than likely those guys will regress

For those who felt Mo was not the one to get the Cardinals out of this mess, pat yourselves on the back. You were correct.

Yes, there is strong reason to believe that Lance Lynn will perform about as well as Wainwright did last year.

Well we have three average to below average innings eaters (Mikolas, Gibson, Lynn) and an injury proned question mark (Matz). Still no ace or anyone even close to being an ace.

Maybe the Cardinals are going to sign three more pitchers in the second tier, then trade Mikolas and Matz for prospects.

You know, use their “dry powder” and exploit a market inefficiency to rebuild the system.

We now have four #4/#5 type pitchers signed to the starting rotation. Please don’t let this be it with a #2/#3 guy as the ‘ace’…..

I’m expecting Martin Perez next! Lol! This is just pitiful! I’m starting to think they are doing stupid stuff on purpose! This is just unbelievable!

They still need a game 1 and game 2 playoff starter if they can get there…. They don’t have anything close to that.

Love how the Cardinals are getting mocked on social media. Does the front office realize wins aren’t really an important stat anymore when evaluating pitchers? They got a ton of innings to replace all the innings they’ve lost but non of these innings are quality. They now have a rotation of a 4s and 5s starters.

Mo has said he was after innings depth and he has said he is looking for two starters and a swing man. Anything beyond that is just media types, click bait bloggers and fans making noise about what they think should happen.

So far Mo has signed two starters who are clearly innings depth types. That just leaves a swing man type, which he is not going to pay $10M a year for, and not going to trade any core asset or good prospect for. He will probably also get some pen help. Nothing says he has to trade anybody for anything, and it does not look like he would need to. We can probably stand down, there is no reason to think anything big is going to happen.
