I don’t know…. Don’t we already have enough octogenarians on the pitching staff?

Kershaw, David Robertson, Chapman. All potential one year wonders. Don’t forget Rich Hill.

The article was amusing. “St. Louis as an appealing destination for free agents?” (permission to chuckle) Appealing only if they have no interest in winning.

I have never heard of fanrecap.com but here is how I would assign the percentages of outcomes:

80% chance he signs another one year deal with the Dodgers.
10% chance he signs with the hometown Rangers
    10% chance he retires.
0% chance he signs with the Cardinals.

Besides he won’t be available to play for anyone until around the all star break.

Only pitched 131 innings due to injury. But, the rest of his pitching stats were CYA worthy.

After seeing the warm welcome afforded to Contreras, any FA would be thrilled to have the honor of playing for the current Redbird manager and his boss, Johnny. If that weren’t enough, who in their right mind wouldn’t want to play 81 games in a venue that is closely ringed on all sides by areas that are consistently taking on gunfire from all directions…Bring the wife and kids!

Although post-season performance will cloud his career, Kershaw may very well be the all time best pitcher when W/L pct. is mentioned along with at least 200 W’s and 2500 IP’ed. The only guy that really surpasses him is named Spalding.

I had not heard of fanrecap.com either. An article on 2B prospects says Saggese’s statcast data is unimpressive. Is there a statcast whiz-bang out there who can comment on that?

After the Contreras debacle, we signed three veteran free agent pitchers who had an untapped market when they signed.

Yeah, and one of them could have been signed way back in ’17 when he was still only 30…At any rate, all three of them oughta’ love it here.

Lynn and Gibson….same type pitcher. It is going to be a long season.

He might not be around long enough to claim that they’ll pitch better in September…I’ll tell you that.

Gscottar’s odds look accurate to me. Did not read the article, but personally do not see a match either way on Kershaw. Course the current management might feel different and think he is a perfect compliment to what we have.

Well boys and girls, we only have a day and a half left in 2023. A real nightmare year for the Cardinals will be turned over and we can hope for better things in 2024.

Unfortunately for me, I don’t see much improvement based on what management has done. It seems rather than either make a huge splash to improve the club, or clean house and look for better days ahead, they have decided to simply change the names of a couple of starting pitchers under the assumption that 2023 was an anomaly, and bringing in older guys who have good clubhouse presence will fix things. I can’t see it, although Gray is better than anyone we had last year (if healthy in ‘24), so that will help. And the youngsters should be better on both offense and defense. So what the heck, maybe there is something to it – we will know in about 6 months.

Kershaw seems like a good fit, in the sense he won’t be available until mid-season, 2024, according to the linked article. By mid season we will be in need of a couple of starting pitchers, on this point there is no doubt.
Why not go ahead and sign one of those mid season replacement starters now, if the price is reasonably close? Or do you want to have Thompson and Pallante waiting in the wings, lol?

Personally I don’t think Kershaw would be a bad sign if you aren’t going big, he can still get outs pretty effectively. But I don’t think the Cardinals have the people to effectively use him.

I don’t think Kershaw would be a bad signing. I would just be really surprised if he signed here. If he truly is ready to move on from the Dodgers why not just do it with his hometown team that just won the world series?
