As I said in a post a couple of months ago, Mo will sign 2 or 3 bottom of the rotation guys and that will be it! This is the first of the three! We still clearly need a number 1 and 2 and will most likely get neither!

Next move: Dallas Keuchel 1yr-8 mil and a 8mil club option or 4 mil buy out so he has 12mil guaranteed

I won’t complain too much about the return of Lance Lynn simply because I was expecting something more along the lines of a return of Westbrook and Suppan…

Ugly signing too me. He looked awful at the end of the year.

Strict workout and weight loss program prior to ST. Looking forward to him being part of the rotation in 2024.

He only gave up 44 homers last year and will be 38 in May. Great addition

One other thought…If the Cards are trying to get a pitcher by trade, does it help the Cards to have one of the three additions done? With the Cards needing three guys, other teams can sense desperation. Only needing two, we’re a top FA and a deal away. Maybe this lowers the price on the deal. A successful trade might also make us more attractive to a high level FA.

From what? Being (hopefully) slightly better than last year?

It would help to have two additions done. But the goal should not be to have warm bodies, it should be to improve the team.

40% of the way there. Need 2 more starters and a bullpen guy in addition to O’Brien.

The Cardinals lost 4 pitchers from out of the bullpen last year – Cabrera, Hicks, Stratton & VerHagen.

None of them were lights out, LA.
But I do hope they bring back Hicks.

    Helsley
    Gallegos
    Romero (L)
    O’Brien
    Thompson (L)
    Liberatore (L)
    Pallante (ugh)
    King (L)

Need Hicks (or another right handed flame thrower) to replace Pallante.

O’Brien has pitched two games at the MLB level and has a 7.71 ERA. I wouldn’t count him as part of the relief corps just yet.

And no, our bullpen was atrocious last year. They had a 4.47 ERA and 28 blown saves.

If all the Cardinals are going to do is acquire bodies, that will not improve.

It’s hard to get hurt by a one year signing. My fear is that they will consider this their top pitcher acquisition for the off season. I hope not.

The Cardinals starters had an ERA of 5.07 last year. So, they went out and got a starter who had an ERA of 5.73.

Most of us were hoping the Cardinals would get three pitchers with ERA’s below Miles Mikolas’ 4.78.

I think Lance realizes this is his last hurrah and reaches down deep for everything he has and comes up big in ’24. But that’s it, after this year his tank will be empty, so whatever you do, do NOT……and I repeat…..do NOT extend his deal beyond 2024, Mo! The Cardinals may know Lance better than Lance knows Lance. They know what they are doing…….in this instance, trust Mo. Solid signing for 2024, Mo! Now get ready for another former ChiSox hurler coming our way in the person of Mr. Dylan Edward Cease.

Here is a quote from that article, mudville.

“Along with youthful left-handers Matthew Liberatore, Zack Thompson, and Drew Rom-all of whom began games to differing degrees of efficiency last season-St. Louis also returns Steven Matz and Miles Mikolas to increase the depth and effectiveness of their pen.”

Not sure they know what they are talking about. Pretty sure they don’t.

I’ll save room next to the Waino puppy dog bobblehead I plan on snagging. I have plenty of room on my 2023 memorabilia shelf.

Bullpen-wise, we have six guys penciled in after the non-tender deadline – Helsley, Gallegos, King, Romero, Pallante, and Liberatore. My guess is they sign one guy and let O’Brien, Granillo, and the crew fight it out for the 8th spot.
