Personally I would not mind seeing Lance Lynn walk back into the clubhouse. He is getting a bit long in the tooth and probably has a solid Rangers contract but he delivers. If the NL is to keep the DH, Luke Voit’s bat would not be frowned upon returning either. I don’t really see either of these things happening.

forsch, since you are in a trading mood why not give us some names of who we should receive in turn for sending out our players. I am supposing you are looking for veterans. A list of possibles would be worth discussing.

I still can’t get over Fredbird dressing up as Joe Exotic during one of yesterday’s games against the Tigers.

Fredbird has been given Big Mac land as his own and I must admit he is hilarious up there. He has even populated it with fans. Something new every day with Fredbird.

Looks like Bauer and Gray will miss this series. So that is good news but Gray was taken down in the last series. Still not good to depend on that. Our pitching needs to get healed up for those 3 double headers next week so this Reds series will be important to not blow out the bullpen. A good day to all and looking forward to PLay Ball.

Really hope Gallegos can recover before end of season but groin injuries can take time depending on severity. I had the feeling in the 6th inning that the Cardinals were on cruise control and felt that something bad was around the corner. It was. Still, as much as I criticize Carp he seems to come through when needed. But DH and spot 3B starts is about as much as I see for his future.

For some reason, most likely me, the TIVO failed to start recording when the game started but I noticed it at about 1:35 and got it going. I think it was in the 4th inning that the HPU really stood out when he called a couple of balls throw under the snakes belly as strikes but it was against the Tigers so no worry but he was definitely guessing on the low strikes. Cards got their mojo going in this one and the Tigers looked like their mojo had moved out long ago. To me people like Miggy Cabrera emulate what is wrong with the DH batter system. Just old and slow and can still hit a baseball. Just no strategy involved in these games when it comes to the pitcher. We all know the death knell has sounded for the NL on the designated hitter. Now to see if the Cards can pull off another sweep. Would be sweet to sweep.

It was mentioned that a Lou Brock patch has been approved for wear. When might that start. Yadi may wind up with two numbers on his uni that aren’t #4.

Thanks Tinky. Nobody to blame but myself for 43 years of pumping junk into my lungs. Quit 27 years ago and had no problem until 3 years ago but it was only minor. Almost overnight it went almost completely downhill. But I still love to watch baseball and the Cards are a good team to watch if you don’t get snagged into going into each players nightly stats – that ruins the game for me……lol

How in God’s name did I ever get on the email list for this thread? I guess it’s purpose is to promote discussion but there must be some sort of limit to what qualifies as discussion vs flat out mean arguing. I think if I take my name off the “Notify me of follow-up replies via email” I can get out of their way. Have at it folks.

I just don’t think he’s playing good enough and he’s 32 years old.

Good God almighty. I would kill to be 32 years old again. Just got told I am now tethered to an O2 hose forever. Bummer.

Am I the only one annoyed by this non-stop blathering of Thompson? Does he get paid by the word?

CF nice of you to notice and Stl25 has me pegged but I have tried hard to hold my tongue. Thompson went to the Ricky Horton School of Never a Moment of Silence and I think he graduated Magna Cum Laude. I think that FSM has too many old pitchers on staff. Nice folks mind you but I have trouble accepting a pitcher’s view of how position players should do something. Anyway a bit less chatter would be nice. Jim Edmonds is my favorite but Danny can get him off track at times too.

Probably see Carlson start one of these games and Thomas the other along with Bader and ONeil in both. Dexters IL trip will present an opportunity for some new blood in the outfield for a while. Two double headers this week and three double headers next week means 16 games in 12 days. Gonna be some tired looking pups when this is all over and I do think it will affect their overall record. At least their one off day will be at home and not in a Chicago hotel. GO CARDS.

Well we know we took this series and, at a minimum, split the season series with the Cubs. So a win today will only be a plus for us and get us closer to the meat grinder we will see the rest of the week with two DHs.

Lots of convo the past few days regarding Bader and his supposed ills. Seems as if he put quiet to those for a bit with his performance in this game but man he needs a haircut of that mop. No Carp sighting in this game and we won so that means he will be either a starter or DH today.

To TCN, BW and the whole staff. Thanks for a great article on Lou Brock. He was the epitome of a Cardinal.

Speaking of Sosa a few posts up —- where is he? Surely he has recovered from the bug by now so I assume he is at Springfield and Shrock is now our infield utility man.

I don’t know if Jack has a little pre-1st pitch ritual but what I saw last night seems as if he does. He talks through the web of his glove, crosses himself several times and then shouts out something. Sorta like a modified Hrabosky rant. Whatever it is and judging only by results, tune it up Jack. It ain’t working.

It is only fair that I give credit when due and one of my favorite targets, Angel Hernandez, deserves it today. I think he called a good game last night. Even was good on the low strikes. Of course 14 strikeouts didn’t hurt. Most swinging as I recall.

I hope Adam and Dakota can jack up this team today. They looked rather lifeless in the great dark expanses of Wrigley. Will they ever light the outfield there? The place looks better without all their fans.

I have wondered about ballplayers wearing ear rings during the game. Yadi has taken to diamond studs but last night I think it was Baez who wears a dangling cross in at least one ear. Now that is showing disrespect for the lobe of an important part of the body.

Cards, yesterday I closed by saying Play Ball. Evidently you did not hear so again and louder PLAY BALL.

“No job is too hard if you don’t have to do it.” And that is how I look at all baseball writers who go beyond reporting on facts and start to inject their speculation into it. That’s when they become little more than scribblers. They don’t have to do the job but feel free to criticize the way it was done without full knowledge of any reasons for that.

There’s no way I’d start Carlson other than doubleheaders the rest of the year. He’s overmatched and it shows. O’Neill still is hitting the ball decently, and his fortunes should change soon.

So you just don’t try to improve your #1 prospect who has shown very good defense – I am not sure I have seen any that he missed that Harry would have caught. I am not a stat minder so my fondest collection of Harry’s son is when he was sent down to learn how to improve his pitch recognition. ONeil also went down but to Springfield and looked terrible his whole time in AA. Harry did a nice job in Memphis and looked like he turned a new leaf when he got back. He was not going for that sucker low and away slider any more…..well at least for a while but Harry’s lessons did not prove to be permanent and soon he was swishing away again. I take your word for it that he had a hot run lately and I do recall him hitting some dingers and doing some good base running in a few games, emphasize FEW games. I don’t have a clue as to who should be playing the outfield but I have never understood the love affair some have with Thomas. He may be great or not – I just can’t recall him consistently doing anything that was memorable. ONeil I was hoping would be traded for someone better but I guess he can improve with time. His defense is good. But I just must have missed him hitting the ball decently as quoted above. Now it is time to get ready for our next mission – 5 games in Wrigley making it NO Cubs games at home this season. PLAY BALL

How many times have we seen Yadi serve a little bloop single out to right center to score the run from second. A bunch.

And how many times have we seen him hit into a double play. I don’t know what I would have called but the bunt moved base runners along and only resulted in one out. Good by me.

I am surprised that we watched 3 Reds games and there right behind the left hand batters box and two rows up sat the cardboard version of Marge Schott and nobody mentioned her. Marge was a piece of work in her day. Was she there when Pete Rose got axed?

I am a Edman fan and have no problem with him playing OF but, as all baseball fans do, one has to wonder if Dylan Carlson could have made a stronger throw to HP to prevent a walkoff. Nah, I don’t think so but will still wonder.

Couldn’t read your article Brian but surely with 30 games left in the season including 7 double headers there will be enough playing time to not ‘sit’ anybody. Carp was a person who came into ST supposedly much changed and ready to go…..until game 1. He has good times – mostly in pressure situations – but even Edmonds was commenting last night that his batting stance and approach to the ball is not consistent.
Do the teams have to cut down for the playoffs? I think they are still at 28 now right? I would think that they should be allowed to stay at 28 right through the World Series.

My only comment on Harry’s son. Has he ever played left field? Has he ever played right field? Has he ever played any place other than center field. Lots of players shorten their playing time by being position limited. You can cry about Edman or even Carlson at this early time in his career but they and others have shown that the manager has flexibility in where to put them. Carlson I feel is just being used heavily at start to get him experience and letting him see some of the pitching he will see this month in what will be mostly the second go around for these teams. Harry’s bat was hot and maybe still is and he will get his time but not all the time.

Reading through this thread has been enjoying. Several folks with their minds made up defending their side. Sounds like politics..lol. But I will side with Carlson. Yes he would have been in the minors for some period but folks you know as well as I do – THERE ARE NO MINORS and the ‘Alternate Site’ (what a name) offers only the same pitchers (not major league ready) to swing your bat at occasionally. Hammonds Field is closed to the public but I would like to see them working out and I think some is being done inside. Anyway, Carlson has shown that he isn’t Jose Martinez in the field and that he has a power arm and a thinkers head for covering on that double play. He is learning major league pitching as that is the only place he will see it now but his opposition thinks that he would be a offensive powerhouse right out of the gate.

Shucks and here I was thinking it was Yadi. Bet he is in the lineup tonight because tomorrow is a day off in Chicago – what a wonderful place for a day off.

I for one would not mind seeing Lance Lynn once again with the birds on the bat.

Luke Voit has nailed down those Nu Yawk Yanky fans with his 13 home runs, 301 BA and 1.072 OPS. Good thing we got Goldy (at a somewhat higher price); otherwise, we would be whining mightily.
