Totally agree thejager. Every game I can think of (at least the major spectator sports) has had changes incorporated into it to make it more exciting or more accurate and to eliminate nasty fights based solely on an opinion or judgement call. The NFL is a good example at the moment with their attempts to make pass inteference calls subject to review for either being called or not being called. I sure don’t support a review of ball/strike calls but the ability now exists to make them accurate nearly 100 percent of the time.

Can anybody direct me to the explanation of the codes that appear above the reply box. B-I-Link-B-Quote,etc?

HPUs could easily be replaced by electronic calls of balls/strikes. But they would still be needed to make foul/safe or out calls so no money saved but a lot more accurate game would be called. Also, since the SCOTUS legalized sports betting in baseball and umpire on the take would not be unheard of. One call can change an entire game. We saw more than one in the last Pitt game.

Saw an article this am on Ron Kulpa and his childish behavior during the Rangers/Astros game. He is in need of some kind of counseling or dismissal – has many examples of poor behavior. Article may have been on MLB.

Gee it would be nice if those of us who chose to avoid social media could ask questions of Jen but she is locked into Twitter. MLB itself has gone away from non-social media members with respect to commenting on their writeups. Thanks to TCN we non-twitters can still be heard…..LOL Last time I asked MLB what happened to their comment boards I got a real snooty answer saying, in effect, if you don’t Twitter or Facebook – tough luck.

I for one am happy they took advantage of the rain day and moved the opener to Friday. Just too much good to see to have it turned into a raincoat and rain delay ballgame. Looking forward to tomorrow. Go Cards.

chuckling – how true that is. We haven’t even played a home game yet. How is it that two years in a row we act as the fall guy for other teams opening days for a couple of series before we ever even see a home crowd. I know, I know – computer scheduling. I think the Chinese have hacked the MLB computer – Brewers 10 games in a month – really?

Thanks. Just found TCN a couple of days ago and, so far, I like what I see. What was your screen name on the MLB boards? Other than the strikeouts I still like what I see overall with this team. A bit too early to get down on any specific player. Looking to see Mr Machado on our opening day. If tries that tripping trick on Goldschmidt he may wind up with 43,000 waiting to take him out……LOL

My hope is to get Miller back on track. So far from the start of spring training to his last appearance he has looked to be the weak spot in the bullpen. Since he is the only lefty it looks like we will be depending on our righties to get the job done and, for the most part, they have been doing just that. Sure hope that Miller is not a miss.

All true Brian but notice that those teams with a dome did not have the off day scheduled after home opener day (Milwaukee, Miami, Tampa, etc). But I sure don’t like scheduling the Cards to play a night game tomorrow and then a day home opener the next day. Extra innings or travel problems could really mess things up.

Ref sending Waino to the pen instead of Hudson. I agree but the timing is not right to do that now. I honestly think Waino will be in the pen later in the season along with Carlos Martinez. The real question is whom will they replace? It would be a mistake to once again send Brebbia down. He has the talent to be a pen star along with Gant. But Gant may get Waino’s starting position as the season goes on.

Since Bader and Fowler have had a rest day it may be time to give the same to Ozuna who appears to be totally lost at the plate and dragging an anchor in the outfield. It is very early yet but from what we have seen I don’t forsee Mr O being offered an extension by Mr Mo.

I am new to TCN and was left homeless when the MLB boards went kaput to non-social media participants. Strikeouts – nothing more frustrating than watching that little strike box and see some of the center cut offerings ignored and nasty sliders swung at with impunity. Seems that about 80 percent of sliders wind up out of the box and that pitch recognition would be a way to avoid a strikeout. But these guys are professionals and my being an old couch potato is not going to help them. Just hope for the best and recognize this as a great game to watch. So happy to have 2019 season underway and hope to share some good posts here on TCN.

I am hoping that Andrew Miller is not a mistake. I had my doubts when he was signed but they put out a lot of positive PR about him. Now it is time to stand tall Mr Miller.
