Lane Thomas Ks on the high pitches too. While there is some impetus on O’Neill and Thomas to stay ready, I can’t help but think that riding the bench so much didn’t help O’Neill stay ready to hit big league pitching.
There’s the case in point re unproven outfielders. Back to back Ks in a crucial situation.
Iglesias has struck out over a third of the righties he’s faced in his career, with a 0.188 batting average allowed. So it wasn’t that unexpected. I would imagine Fowler would have fared better though.
And that’s a loser. Gallegos couldn’t avoid giving up a run forever. You can’t come in and walk two batters and get away with it.

For the record, the Cardinals lost 4-3 at Cincinnati on a run in the bottom of the ninth. St. Louis’ season record is 14-14 and they won the series, 2-1. Thursday is a day off in Chicago.
I still don’t know what to think about LT. But I’m not at all ready to give up on TO. How did that lower strikeout rate happen for him? I think there’s still the potential for him to break out. I hope I’m right.
I am a Edman fan and have no problem with him playing OF but, as all baseball fans do, one has to wonder if Dylan Carlson could have made a stronger throw to HP to prevent a walkoff. Nah, I don’t think so but will still wonder.

Uh ok Shildt. He pinch hit for O’Neill twice last week as I recall. I mean I guess he is going to get criticized either way but he just needs to decide if he is going to stick with these guys or not instead of flip flopping. And this all goes back to the problem of trying to develop players at the major league level. That is what the minors are for. As Tim McCarver likes to say “This is the big leagues man.”
