How in God’s name did I ever get on the email list for this thread? I guess it’s purpose is to promote discussion but there must be some sort of limit to what qualifies as discussion vs flat out mean arguing. I think if I take my name off the “Notify me of follow-up replies via email” I can get out of their way. Have at it folks.
MM – what jj is doing is breaking the civility rules that set this forum apart from almost every other Cardinal forum.
It’s really shocking and a shame to see.Ok gentlemen….to your respective corners! I strongly suggest that you both initiate no personal conversation towards each other for the period of one calendar week. Call it a cooling off period, if you will. There is absolutely no reason that you two cannot get along. You both are good dudes and you both love the St. Louis Cardinals with great passion. Quality marriages have been forged with fewer commonalities. Let’s keep it cool as clams for the next week.
Fine work, Pugs. JJ, cool it. It’s fine to disagree, but please show some dignity and respect towards your fellow Cardinal fan. State your case without resorting to labels and name calling.
For my part…it’s disappointing to see a supposed fan of our team continually putting our players down. They are the guys we are going into the foxhole with, so to speak, and I understand the passion that stirs up when one of our own finds every opportunity to denigrate our boys and praise the other teams’ players. It’s being done on purpose and though I don’t condone the end result of name calling, I’m glad someone was willing to call a duck a duck.
I like the team we have and feel there’s potential for a solid run in October and into 2021. I enjoy talking about the tweaks that can make it better. That’s where I’ll be going forward.
And it’s okay, 25, for a Cardinal fan of almost 70 years being disappointed with how this team has been constructed. I’m normally the optimist as far as the Cardinals. Always rooting for the young guys coming through the system. Following them every season all the way through attending Winter Warmup, watching them at Spring Training, and checking every one of our minor league teams’ box scores every day throughout the entire season. But I didn’t care for putting so much trust in Grichuk, Piscotty, Adams, and Diaz, and I’ve made my point ad nauseum about this year’s outfield. Carp, Yadi, and Dexter are aging and the young guys in the outfield are to date unproven. IMHO Mo has put too much trust in the young outfielders coming through. Didn’t augment with a proven veteran. And if the youngsters don’t rise to the occasion, there’s not much coming up behind them for several years. Just an opinion from a fellow Cardinal fan.
I’m going on record as being one who hasn’t given up on Bader or O’Neill, and Thomas hasn’t had enough AB’s yet to even merit comment, IMO. Would things be different if this were a normal season that was preceded by a normal spring training? I, for one, believe so. Every player’s
routine has been torn apart and cast aside. Everything is out of synch. Every team has players who can’t find their mojo this year. As far as I’m concerned none of the stats matter this year. I’d be fine if all stats for this year were treated as stand alone stats for this year only rather than being combined with previous years. O’Neill looks like a different player this year and I want to see more of him next year regardless of what he does this year. I don’t want to give up on Bader either, especially after he started hitting the ball lately. If MO can trade for an outfielder with a big bat, I’d be glad. If he can’t, I’d be fine with letting the present outfield ride with the expectation that 2021 will be different, although I’m sure bccran will fire me from my job as Voluntary Special Consultant to the GM because of it.Not so, Mudville. I’d be very happy if this crew came through. I guess I’d just
like to see some hitters come up to the plate that put fear into the opposition.
I get that feeing with Goldy, and somewhat with DeJong. I had that feeling with Ozuna to a certain extent. The grip it and rip it type. Who get you to anticipate with excitement. I just can’t get there yet with O’Neill, Bader, or Thomas. That’s my basic problem.I am not meaning this in a bad way, but have you considered stepping back a bit from 2020? The guys they have are the guys they have and they are experiencing growing pains. Dying with every at bat every day where there is no immediate solution has to be painful.
I join those pleasantly surprised by a team that has been quite resilient in the weirdest of years. I see a glass that is more than half full. They haven’t done everything anyone would have wanted, but they are on track to reach the playoffs for the second consecutive year after three straight misses.
I’m with those who have not quite given up on Bader and O’Neil. This is pretty much a lost season anyway, even if we should play our way into the half of baseball that makes the playoffs and by some miracle suddenly explode to win the Giant 2020 Asterisk. This team we love is often difficult to watch. Its occasional flashes of brilliance inevitably are followed by some disappointingly sloppy baseball. So let’s just use these last weeks as an extended ST, play the kids, re-evaluate the vets and enjoy it when some good baseball does happen.
Rah Cardinals! And vive 2021.Unfortunately, BW, it’s hard to “step back” when one has been a Cardinal fan in this city for a long, long time. But what I can do as a former college pitcher is to concentrate on the pitching side of the equation and enjoy that. The backbone of this team, and the reason why they’ve been able to keep there heads above water. Much to appreciate there.
