RHP Jack Flaherty (2-1, 2.95) vs. LHP Tarik Skubal (1-1, 4.70)
FS Midwest // KMOX // WIJRSeptember 9, 2020 at 10:18 pm #139466The Tigers had to use five relievers to cover six innings tonight as the Brewers crushed them, 19-0.
The #stlcards pick up a half-game on the Cubs, who were shut out tonight by the Reds, 3-0. 2 1/2 games back in the NL Central.

September 10, 2020 at 6:08 am #139473Some crazy games last night. The Brewers pounded these Tigers 19-0. Not to be outdone, the Braves slammed the Marlins by a score of 29-9. Hopefully the Detroit side is a bit deflated and we can take advantage today. This first matchup is very lopsided in the Cards’ favor, so they need to start things off with a W. I’d imagine we will see the RH lineup out there with O’Neill-Bader-Thomas in the OF, Edman at 3B and Ravelo at DH.
September 10, 2020 at 8:15 am #139479We could really use a sweep today against a lesser opponent. We need Jack to be Jack. Here lately he has been doing his Ponce impersonation and can’t get out of the third inning. Enough with that.
September 10, 2020 at 9:05 am #139490Yadier Molina is honoring Roberto Clemente today by wearing the former Pirate great’s no. 21.
September 10, 2020 at 9:14 am #139491It was mentioned that a Lou Brock patch has been approved for wear. When might that start. Yadi may wind up with two numbers on his uni that aren’t #4.
September 10, 2020 at 9:56 am #139495Uh oh. We will find more about what is up with Oviedo before the game, but it may be COVID-related, either directly or indirectly.
(Note the Lou Brock patch.)
We have activated OF Austin Dean from the Injured List and placed RHP Johan Oviedo on the IL.

September 10, 2020 at 10:00 am #139496Wonderful. It would be nice if the Cardinals could keep their staff even remotely healthy. I guess Gomber will have to start, or maybe Woodford? Flaherty, Waino, Hudson, Cmart, Gomber/Woodford. Ponce forced back into action for DHs? We need KK to come back soon and Oviedo to have a minimum DL stint.
September 10, 2020 at 10:03 am #1394981. Kolten Wong (L) 2B
2. Tommy Edman (S) 3B
3. Paul Goldschmidt (R) 1B
4. Paul DeJong (R) SS
5. Rangel Ravelo (R) DH
6. Yadier Molina (R) C
7. Tyler O’Neill (R) LF
8. Harrison Bader (R) CF
9. Lane Thomas (R) RFSeptember 10, 2020 at 10:30 am #139506Just the basics so far… More coming…
Cardinals Place Starting Pitcher Johan Oviedo on the Injured List
September 10, 2020 at 10:46 am #13951214NyquisTParticipantWe’re back down to four starters that are stretched out… and one of them is the ineffective Martinez. Gomber is half way there. Ponce is sure to be chosen as the 29th man for the next and upcoming wave of double-headers. So we need to do the best we can with what we got.
September 10, 2020 at 10:54 am #139514Nyquist, VEB did an article this morning (already obsolete) about the upcoming rotation. They determined that even with Oviedo, we were going to be short starters. Looks like we will need to have a bullpen game in the mix, maybe two. Woodford will have to start, most likely.

September 10, 2020 at 11:24 am #139519Starting outfield hitting in the 7, 8, and 9 holes again. I don’t think I’ve ever seen a playoff level team do that. Very unorthodox. Hopefully we can make it work.

September 10, 2020 at 1:24 pm #139535Diamond Jack punches out all three Tigers in the first. Good start.
September 10, 2020 at 1:42 pm #139537Jack with 4 Ks in two innings. One walk. His pitch count is in the 30s.
September 10, 2020 at 1:50 pm #139538Yadi deposits one into the LF seats! 2-0 Cards
September 10, 2020 at 2:08 pm #139542In a bit of a jam here …
September 10, 2020 at 2:13 pm #139543Jack induces the ground ball double play! Nice play by Goldy to keep his foot on the bag!
September 10, 2020 at 2:15 pm #139544Replay bails us out I guess.
September 10, 2020 at 2:17 pm #139545Jack’s 56 pitches through three innings is a bit high. At that pace he would be at 93 pitches through five.
September 10, 2020 at 2:20 pm #139546Edman with the double to score another run! 3-0 Cards.
September 10, 2020 at 2:22 pm #139549The Tigers pitcher, Skugal, has some good stuff…but is a bit wild. 4 walks, and 62 pitches with none out in the 3rd.
September 10, 2020 at 2:24 pm #139550Dejong with the grounder juuuust past the 2nd baseman to score Edman. Cards remain in business. Skugal is out of the game and it’s time for the bullpen already.
September 10, 2020 at 2:29 pm #139551Ravelo drives one that the LF catches in the gap. The sac fly scores the 5th run.
