The Tigers had to use five relievers to cover six innings tonight as the Brewers crushed them, 19-0.

Some crazy games last night. The Brewers pounded these Tigers 19-0. Not to be outdone, the Braves slammed the Marlins by a score of 29-9. Hopefully the Detroit side is a bit deflated and we can take advantage today. This first matchup is very lopsided in the Cards’ favor, so they need to start things off with a W. I’d imagine we will see the RH lineup out there with O’Neill-Bader-Thomas in the OF, Edman at 3B and Ravelo at DH.

We could really use a sweep today against a lesser opponent. We need Jack to be Jack. Here lately he has been doing his Ponce impersonation and can’t get out of the third inning. Enough with that.

Yadier Molina is honoring Roberto Clemente today by wearing the former Pirate great’s no. 21.

It was mentioned that a Lou Brock patch has been approved for wear. When might that start. Yadi may wind up with two numbers on his uni that aren’t #4.

Uh oh. We will find more about what is up with Oviedo before the game, but it may be COVID-related, either directly or indirectly.

    (Note the Lou Brock patch.)

Wonderful. It would be nice if the Cardinals could keep their staff even remotely healthy. I guess Gomber will have to start, or maybe Woodford? Flaherty, Waino, Hudson, Cmart, Gomber/Woodford. Ponce forced back into action for DHs? We need KK to come back soon and Oviedo to have a minimum DL stint.

We’re back down to four starters that are stretched out… and one of them is the ineffective Martinez. Gomber is half way there. Ponce is sure to be chosen as the 29th man for the next and upcoming wave of double-headers. So we need to do the best we can with what we got.

Nyquist, VEB did an article this morning (already obsolete) about the upcoming rotation. They determined that even with Oviedo, we were going to be short starters. Looks like we will need to have a bullpen game in the mix, maybe two. Woodford will have to start, most likely.

Starting outfield hitting in the 7, 8, and 9 holes again. I don’t think I’ve ever seen a playoff level team do that. Very unorthodox. Hopefully we can make it work.

Jack’s 56 pitches through three innings is a bit high. At that pace he would be at 93 pitches through five.

The Tigers pitcher, Skugal, has some good stuff…but is a bit wild. 4 walks, and 62 pitches with none out in the 3rd.

Dejong with the grounder juuuust past the 2nd baseman to score Edman. Cards remain in business. Skugal is out of the game and it’s time for the bullpen already.

Ravelo drives one that the LF catches in the gap. The sac fly scores the 5th run.
