The good thing is that after historic type performances, the teams almost always lose the next day. Let the Cubs play well tonight and lose two tomorrow, I say.

All 3 Birds whiff in the 5th. Darvish maintains his perfection.

“ Let the Cubs play well tonight and lose two tomorrow, I say.”. Great minds think alike. Darvich must be out of his mind good tonight? But only 3-0. If darvich goes out……

“Need to get the offense going!”

Been saying that since 2012 playoff loss to SF.

Carp blasts one to right and there goes the Perfecto….the no-no….the shut out….and hopefully eventually the ballgame in one beautiful fell swoop!

Mr. Universe needs to be able to hit low & away. So far the short armed lifter can’t reach it.

Contreras gets the tally right back with a laser shot into the left-center field cheap seats.

Wouldn’t that be awful if we got swept this weekend.

Maybin more like George Foster w/o power, less power? I was lambasted when I dared to say he should play ahead of Reddick HOU vs. LA playoffs. HOU won game 7 so? What do I know?

Vintage Yadi slapping that Texas League single to center with one out in the 8th.

Could be meaningless. Could turn into something.

    Come on Carp.

    Go Cards.

Cubs win 4-1 to take the first of the five-game series on a two-hitter by Yu Darvish. The Cards are 14-15 on the season.

I don’t know if Jack has a little pre-1st pitch ritual but what I saw last night seems as if he does. He talks through the web of his glove, crosses himself several times and then shouts out something. Sorta like a modified Hrabosky rant. Whatever it is and judging only by results, tune it up Jack. It ain’t working.

It is only fair that I give credit when due and one of my favorite targets, Angel Hernandez, deserves it today. I think he called a good game last night. Even was good on the low strikes. Of course 14 strikeouts didn’t hurt. Most swinging as I recall.

I hope Adam and Dakota can jack up this team today. They looked rather lifeless in the great dark expanses of Wrigley. Will they ever light the outfield there? The place looks better without all their fans.

I have wondered about ballplayers wearing ear rings during the game. Yadi has taken to diamond studs but last night I think it was Baez who wears a dangling cross in at least one ear. Now that is showing disrespect for the lobe of an important part of the body.

Cards, yesterday I closed by saying Play Ball. Evidently you did not hear so again and louder PLAY BALL.
