I look now and than until mid summer. But I usually have a pretty good idea where the Cardinals are. I don’t miss many games
But I liked seeing Willie Mays get one last shot at a World Series that year, and and
I got to see Willie in Houston that year. My dad was working there. We lived in KC.
I predicted a step back from the bullpen. Like I said Thursday, 3-4 of these guys in the pen now are simply placeholders until our next men up are fully ready.
Agree 100%. Just glad we didn’t move JoJo.
His body was at such an acute angle rounding the bases you thought he was going to tip over. Willie would get so badly fooled on a pitch he looked like he coold never hit the ball. Than the next pitch, sometimes seemingly just as unhittable, he drives it over an outfielders head. But most of all, the guy was always kind and respectful.
Willie is my all-time favorite Cardinal. Humble, wonderful human who happened to be a really exiting baseball player.
If Nathan Church and Victor Scott both play anything like they did yesterday, it will be a lot of fun to watch.
I am just happy to say that at 6:05 am on opening day, I am finally sure the game will be on my tv. Looking forward to the season with interest-and hope. Lots of hope. I know hope isn’t a plan. But it’s all I have. The last few seasons I haven’t had either.
Today’s lineup may be what we go with on opening day, other than Gorman starting at 3rd and Fermin being a bench player and maybe Herrera DHing.

Lineup regulars who haven’t hit a lick yet are Winn, Scott, Pages and Walker. Of those, Pages can most readily be sat if need be, so its 1/3 of the lineup that needs to get it together.
Play Church in center. Call up Crooks. Winn will hit. We aren’t talking about the other guy anymore. Fixed

Pretty much everything they’ve done since Bloom became POBO makes sense if you are looking from the perspective of a rebuild. If you are looking from the perspective of how to win the most games, it’s stupid. I’m not going to criticize those people. They think my pov is stupid. But that’s just me. I was never less entertained than I have been these last few years, trying to do just enough to make the wildcard.
What is 1,300 or so MLB PAs going to tell us that 1,039 MLB PAs has not already told us?
Maybe nothing. But I give Bloom credIt for making a move that will get it over with. This player had some success before they messed with him. They’re trying to rectify the mistake. If it works great if it doesn’t, they’re probably done with it.
We need to know what Walker can do at the big league level. Now is the time to find out. If there’s still no hope by all star break, make a move. But it’s probably permanent.
I don’t mind signing any of those guys GScott lists long term if it’s an equitable deal. But I’m not ready to buy any of them out for big money extensions. Superstar money. None of them have earned that. I suspect Wetherholt will-but if you were to do it now it’s a gamble.
And than there’s this. We have a bunch of other players coming up who will be worthy of extensions pre arb. We can only pay so many of them. We have to choose the right ones if our new system is to work properly. That includes plugging in a few free agents. Evaluation is everything. I like Winn. I enjoy his enthusiasm. He’s a gold glove ss. But until he puts up some offensive numbers, he’s not a guy I use my long term financial resources on.
Thanks for the article Brian. I think Winn is the best player on the team pre 2026, but expect Wetherholt to be on his heels by seasons end. I see all his value on defense at the present time, and that doesn’t warrant a lucrative extension. I would be surprised if the Cardinals enter those waters until the cba is settled. Getting renewed is the business side of the game. The best thing for Winn is to accept the details of his 2026 salary and improve his offense if he wants to be in a better position when his arb years kick in, or be offered an extension if that’s what he wants.
I see Dylan Carlson is having a good spring so far and should make OD roster unless he falls apart the next couple of weeks. I was never more wrong about a player.

The guys who are going to play will start getting regular at bats this next week. Than we can over react to their spring performances.
