This may be May’s last start for awhile.

We can only hope for 2 things, A) he turns it around, at least to agree, or B) he looks bad enough to be replaced. 🙂

The plan to bring May in for a solid 3.5 months then flip him at the deadline is not looking good right now. He better turn it around soon or he will be headed to the bullpen.

I generally like inter league play, but the schedule makers seem to intentionally avoid division games for the first part of the season. We haven’t played any NLC teams and looking at the scoreboard each night I don’t recall seeing any division games.

Not that this would happen in a million years….but….does anyone remember 1985?
Newly acquired pitcher John Tudor started the season 1-8. Went on to have one the great seasons in Card’s history, tossing 10 shutouts!

May is not going to do that…but…maybe we should be a little more patient with the kid and see if he can turn it around a bit?

We might be better off with Dusty May from Michigan out on the mound.

A $12 Million contract won’t be sitting out in the pen any time soon.

I think that was about Matz’ salary, wasn’t it?

According to BR game logs, Tudor was 1-7 in his first 10 turns as a member of the Cardinals’ ’85 rotation. However, he also placed an entirely respectable 3.74 ERA up on the board during those first 10 turns of his first season as a Redbird. I vividly recall that entire season and beginning with his 11th turn, he was virtually unhittable the rest of the way during a season in which he led the entire Big Leagues with 10 CG shutouts. He and a 20 year old Dwight Gooden were the pitchng sensations in ’85 with Gooden edging out Tudor for the NL CYA. Those two battled it out as the two primary pitching components of their respective teams’ race for the old NLE title. The top 5 voting order for that seasons’ NL CYA were Gooden, Tudor, Hershiser, Andujar and Valenzuela. Those are 5 pitching names that are a genuine modern day blast from the past. In any case, any comparisons regarding John Tudor and D. May are, in my view, more than a little over the top. This May guy gets hit as often and as hard as Jerry Quarry. Now that I’ve said that, he’ll win 20 this season…Maybe not.

1985 is my favorite Cardinal team of all time so I remember it like it was yesterday. Tudor started 1-7 then commenced to go 20-1 the rest of the year. He was amazing. And he was a soft tosser which you rarely ever see anymore.

I don’t see May going on a run like that but I would love to be wrong. Oh he could definitely end up in the pen if he continues to get shelled. I doubt they would DFA him though.

Maybe May will be better in May.

Yes. I said any time soon. How long did it take in that case?

Claire Bloom gave him $12M to dress out in a Cardinal uniform, so he’s not going anywhere anytime real soon. Both the Dodgers, who were only paying him about $2.1M, and then Red Sox immediately realized they had no use for him so his agent placed a call to someone who was foolish enough to dole out $12M of Willie Jr’s. Arby’s money…

Referencing the Dodgers, the Big Leagues won’t be anything remotely resembling a fair fight as long as that team shows up on the field to play. Way too much firepower entirely across the board in every area of the game.

bling, I shouldn’t need to point out that a different POBO was previously in charge. I don’t think we should assume the past will necessarily repeat itself. Many changes have already been made that would not have occurred before. I don’t know for sure in this case, but I sure don’t assume the old rules still apply.

Do the Cardinals, or any team, still employ what was once termed a GM?

Matz was walking wounded for 3 year and about the best they were going to get was to turn him into a swingman-multiple inning guy to get someone to take him.

May needs a solid start for sure but I don’t think they will jump the gun yet and bring on Fitts. They do have some time here but yeah if he keeps it up he might see the bullpen by the time May hits. I mean after all this is a rebuild. No one is expecting to contend. We do need to help in pen though so far.

If May’s next two starts resemble his first two I predict a trip to the IL and then 2-3 rehab starts to see if they can reset him.

Then they’ll run him out there again to see what happens.

If he keeps getting knocked around the pen would be his next destination I would bet.

At least if he fails it’s just a 1 year deal…

Rat, Friday night is always pizza night at our house so I will be chowing down on a delicious gourmet cheese pizza with a glass of diet mountain dew.

Good question on Pugs. I have been wondering the same thing. I hope he is still enjoying his trips to Johnny’s Steakhouse and his famous applie pies from Popeyes.

I just read that the splashdown for the astronauts is 7:07pm CT tonight so I might have to watch that right berfore first pitch of the Cards game at 7:15.
