We are sorry to hear the news that former Cardinals catcher Tom Nieto has passed away at age 65. He played for the Cardinals from 1984 to ‘85 as part of a 7 year playing career followed by a coaching career. Great guy . RIP Tom

I dont remember tom nieto. Though 84-85 was my first year of being in the marines so im sure there were a few players those years that i dont remember or even ever heard of if they werent regulars or played just a short time. Not too much older than me so a little disheartening
I’m a bit surprised you don’t remember him, Willie. Nieto appeared in more games and collected more PA’s than did Darell Porter during the Cardinal NL pennant winning ’85 season.
Sorry to hear about Tom Nieto passing away. That’s pretty young for these days. Remember him well. Like a lot of catchers he was sort of a “defense first” guy – platooned a lot against lefties. RIP Tom.

Dylan Carlson re-signed with the Cubs on a minor league contract. He’ll have to earn his way back onto the 40-man roster.
