As someone who goes to 20/30 games a year for business and personal. I hate the shorter games- sorry. Absolutely hate. For business its harder to get a conversation in while watching the game, and even if going to pleasure good luck taking a leak and grabbing a beer and a brat- its takes 1.5 innings. Then you have to deal with traffic feeling like you just got there.
For TV watching sure- but overall i despise.🤙

I for one am not sold on the fact that these contract inflation rates are here to stay. Def rising long term but this could be a blip.
You have half a dozen teams honestly setting their own market for marquee talent year in and year out. All it takes are one or two teams getting burned and one jumps out- then another..and the market is reset. Not saying that will or wont happen but it literally just did a few years ago.
Might be of some comfort to long term cards fans- definitely not to nolan arenado
Seems like a forced analogy between baseball and politics when it comes to spending.
One thing that seems to be true in both is complaining about spening other people’s money. If you dont like the product dont go. You are not a shareholder of the club. And you cannot make decisions beyond your own at the turnstiles to effect the club. Do that en masse – and you will have a st louis without a baseball team.
Do that en masse in “forward thinking” states (leaving california/illinois/ny etc) and you win. Yet those who remain are stuck with the bill.
Those who spend in large cities have to compete more per dollar of entertainment. We dont. And thats the market. Maybe soccer will help with that in st louis.
I agree bccran- however would you rather have our current team + our top 3 hitting prospects or our current team with 2 or 3 guys in AAA that could be current back end starters for a third of the league. Id take the latter. No right or wrong answer there.
I also think walker has a very high floor – probably one that we haven’t seen since idk jd drew? How were ppl talking about brett wallace a few years ago? Nothing like walker but they definitely had him penciled in as a starter. Didnt turn out too well. Pitching more reliable and coveted.
I think the cardinals are getting back to their roots. Drafting pitching then trading (in theory) for a competitive advantage when they need a bat. The result is less potential big bat names obviously in our system to look forward to (and already crown someone as a roy/mvp candidate) but will probably lead to a more well balanced team in the years to come.

It’s becoming the oscars of baseball and i think schilling sees that. So until alot of these idiot writers (and they are idiots) are no longer around or voting- i dont think schilling would even care to be in? Maybe in a few decades- who knows.
Literally do not even care about the hall of fame anymore after schilling. If cooperstown burned to the ground i would just hope nobody got hurt. And if you call yourself a true baseball fan and support schilling not being in- deep down you know lol. What a joke.
Can someone convince me we dont have serious rotation problems and question marks? Im stunned we didnt add a SP. Not to say that we still cant..but i dont think we want rodon and everyone else is a non factor unless we have a trade in the works i don’t believe adding contreras is going through make us competitive enough to outscore a mediocre at best NL rotation.
All we know are albert’s career earnings. Beyond that we have no idea about his financial situation. Especially after the divorce which is extremely relevant. With public figures these are where NDAs come into play and Albert will certainly get taken for a significant amount.
So for keeping his toes in the game to be able to also market himself- i think Albert will gladly take 1mm a year.
I think sometimes people confuse captains of industry and technology creation with athletes. They may be the same age. But unless Albert becomes extremely aggressive with his money (doubtful) his earing years are now behind him. And he should consider himself lucky to get 1mm a year for a part time job in baseball.
Fergie jenkins drives a minivan and signs baseballs for 35 dollars a pop at dozer field in peoria. Kind of sad to see considering.
Hes also 35 rbis away from becoming 2nd all time in career RBIs surpassing babe ruth. Will be interesting to see what he are the cardinals decide. Both that and 700 hr clearly in reach with another year of healthy limited play.
I agree- i wouldnt shake the man’s hand after that for anything in the world. I know a few stl attorneys who would love to pick this one up for a slander charge. This nonsense has to stop.
Arguing about who should be hof is almost as arbitrary as the standards on getting in- its all subjective and evolving.
I have absolutely zero idea how defensive WAR is quantified per player. I doubt many on here (save brian?) do either. But it seems as though one way to help those voting 5 years plus down the road is to take offense out of the equation all together.
If you glove is good enough to keep you as a starter- that’s enough. A substantially better offensive 3rd baseman who is an above average defender should NOT be awarded a gold glove over an avg offensive 3B who is an elite defender. Which is historically how its been awarded. Thats my opinion at least.
Good for posey- baseball for him is a job and for giants fans simply a game. Life is short and at some point time > money, especially when you have buster posey money.
The real question is will he be HOF? Id lean towards yes but only bc of the 3 rings/a roy/ and an mvp. But the cumulative stats just arent there- will be interesting.
Besides the cheating thing…want to see braves win so freeman can get a ring. Another guy that its hard to not root for (unless he’s playing us of course)
That 8-6-3 dp must have been a sight. I think sean casey went 7-3 once- in fact he def did. In fairness hesitated bc he wasnt sure if ss caught ball.
I think obviously pujols takes a minor league invite from the cards if given- i just dont think they will offer it to him. Sept seems more likely to me – although albert wants 700(doubt he gets there) and yes prob even to pass babe ruth im rbis.

That’s interesting. We always talk about Yadi for the Hall, but rarely Waino.I always think about waino vs. mike mussina when it comes to resume. Always consistently good and some great years where he was one of the best in baseball but never really THE best. They both have rings but no cya. Somehow mussina was seen as a no doubt HOF yet adam will prob fall off after a few years. Doesnt make a whole lot of sense but i digress..if you take wins out of the equation i think waino is objectively the better pitcher..off topic i digress!
Fyi Didnt mean anything against drew personally he was a great guy and even better businessman.
But like any true good businessman HIS first priority is the shareholder. Its only fair game for the fans to be able to push back and expect a better product on the field!
The ownership is an old boys club that trickles down into the front office and management. Personally i know a few ppl from the drew baur area who say its run like a bank (if that makes sense to anyone) those at the top feed and everyone under better support the line or else they dont eat. Nothing changes as long as the bottom line is fat.
Anecdotal- but I consider myself to be a huge cards fan. I probably watched 15 full games this year- 5 at busch and 10 either on hacked streaming or in a bar by chance.
Point is if MY level of interest has started to wane imagine the casual fan- which to be honest- is what they care about. Lets hope we see cheaper ticket prices and tv options in the future – and more of a focus on running the organization like a corporation instead of a syndicate- just my .02$

Will just be interesting to see if we can land him or if he wants a trevor bauer style contract for a year- which will obviously put us out of the running. Im still going to say someone gives him 3 yrs and he takes it- just a guess.
