A little off-season baseball trivia…Of the top 20 All Time leaders in GIDP’s, how many of these players are members of the HOF? Bonus points if you can name how many are former Cardinals.
Obviously if you look it up before answering, the dreaded baseball gypsies will garnish your $20 hot dog with spiders and ketchup…
You’re precisely right, but the list has two or three other guys that are almost certain future HOF’ers. It also includes one guy that I think has been deserving for a long time, but may not ever get in. At any rate, the question is current members of the baseball HOF.
Edman probably would bring more in a trade than any Cardinal other than Goldschmidt and Arenado. In fact, I’m certain of it.
Gonna guess Brooks Robinson is in there probably Eddie Murray and maybe Hank Aaron. I will look it up now.

Well hot stove over, I give the Cardinals a D. They got a few don’t know for sure players and for that I would have given them a C but getting Contreras pulls them down toan D. Normally I would go with F but I’ll give benefit of doubt for a while

15. Joe Torre…Got in as a Mgr. but a member just the same.Albert Pujols and Miguel Cabrerra will take the top 2 spots respectively when they undoubtedly become members. Molina will place at number 14 along with Jeter and Simmons when Yadi gets his plaque. Andrian Beltre will round out the list at number 20 when he appears on the ballot in ’24. In my view, Rusty Staub should be a member of Cooperstown. Not only because he could flat out hit, but it seemed like Bob Gibson never once recorded an out when the redhead stood in the batter’s box. At any rate, if you want to be a member of the HOF, spend a long time hitting a lot of scorching hot smashes onto the diamond to Big League IF’ers…Currently there are 2 former Redbirds (Simmons/Torre) on the list. Pujols and Molina will make it 4. More than any other team.
I consider the hot stove during the time they are in their winter meetings so yea in my eyes it’s over. The rest is just off season.
That’s all fine and good, Rats, but what’s for din-din? On this end it’s pan fried breaded porkchops with milk gravy and rice, along with green beans smothered in butter, a small bowl of apple sauce and a couple of hot biscuits with strawberry jelly. Man alive, I’ll have to mow the lawn three times a week next spring to work it all off…
Din-din today was a center cut rib chop with some noodles from the bakery at the grocery. Then a piece of chocolate cake. And a Pepsi.
Din-din tomorrow (Saturday) will be some Hormel Beef Tips heated in the microwave, some instant mashed potatoes, some gravy, a Pepsi, and another piece of chocolate cake from the Bakery.
Then din-din on Sunday will be a Ribeye steak in the air fryer, some jumbo crinkle cut french fries, a Pepsi, and another piece of chocolate cake.

Can someone convince me we dont have serious rotation problems and question marks? Im stunned we didnt add a SP. Not to say that we still cant..but i dont think we want rodon and everyone else is a non factor unless we have a trade in the works i don’t believe adding contreras is going through make us competitive enough to outscore a mediocre at best NL rotation.
It seems they have plenty of starters but they don’t have a true #1 starter. As of right now I don’t think Hudson would be in the starting 5. I could see it as Flaherty/Mikolas/Monty/Waino/Matz. The issue though you have significant injury concerns with Flaherty and Matz.
Hudson may be next up, though I think Pallante is someone to watch he was quite good until the innings caught up with him late in the year…. He may be one year away from the rotation.
They have plenty of trade chips to get a starter but can they get a front of the line starter is the question.
As of now the rotation is as big of a mess as it was the last two years. A gaggle of injury comebacks and performance question marks. Matz looked OK an inning at a time in September. Thant’s all we know about him. Hudson was all over the place, we don’t know if he can pitch or not. Probably not from what we saw. Jack is a bum shoulder guy, so there is no way to predict his future. Can he stay on the field? Can he figure out a way to pitch that his arm can tolerate and which is also effective? We don’t know. And the sad fact is we don’t know if Waino will be effective and hold up. Tired arm? We don’t know. Magical mechanical issue that nobody could see even though they were standing right there, and had it all on tape? We don’t know. Montgomery turned in a half year for us that exceeded his careers norm. He had been a .500 pitcher with a higher ERA and WHIP than what we saw, so will he regress to his career mean? We don’t know. Mikolas looked good, except for the losing record, but missed 2 out of the last 3 seasons. So the whole thing is a train wreck waiting to happen.
Yeah, Monty has not missed any time since coming back from TJ a few years ago. Just what we need but not what the Cardinals like. .500ish guy who starts when you turn the key. Similar to Lance Lynn who we let walk when he reached the end of his arb years. This will be Monty’s last arb year. The most likely thing is he will regress toward his career norms, down some from what we saw, and then he will have to find someone else to pay him. We like the sports cars that look good and go fast but are always broke down on the side of the road. Have a bunch of them, what could go wrong.
The rotation is like everything else, a big question mark and hopes of players performing better than they are or staying healthy. In my opinion, waino should have retired last season, flaherty you just don’t know, will matz stay healthy and how good is he when he is, Hudson is very inconsistent except for his pitch counts which are always high, Monty pitched great but still need to see if that’s who is or is he the guy with the Yankees, mikolas is our best starting pitcher and is solid. He’s getting older now so have to be concerned there. I consider him a really good number two, we dont really have an ace.
