Carlson likely starts at AAA and gets experience and regular playing time.Remeber he is just 20 years old with barely a month of AAA experience. No point in having him in Stlouis to ride the bench or get spot starts.let him get regular playing time at AAA to develop. With Bader,ONeill,Fowler,Thomas,Arozarena,Justin Williams,Adolis Garcia and Matt Carpenter all options for the OF right now it is crowded enough.Hoping some trades clear Fowler and Adolis Garcia out.Adolis Garcia has worse swing and miss than ONeill and is 2 years older.Fowler is just Fowler.

I don`t see the best case scenario of Ozuna getting the QO and staying.Cards cannot continue to run a defensively inept LF and RF on the field as regulars.Fowler is terrible in everything related to baseball,Ozuna offers some pop but is a liability in the OF .Then to top it off hearing that the CCards are seriously thinking Carpenter in LF next year…downright scary.Every bitches about too many strikeouts and not enough contact hitting…Well then its time to start doing something about it.Veteran players with declining skills and limited defensive ability (Fowler,Carpenter,Ozuna) need to let leave (Ozuna) try like hell to trade (Fowler-even if you eat part salary) or have their roles reduced to maximize their skills (Carpenter).
Cards simply must reduce the strikeouts and Jeff Albert doesn`t appear to be the answer so far.Cards also need to get a solid innings eater SP.Too many question marks in the rotation.Use every option available to find potential players who could help now or in the near future (RULE 5,minor league FAs,overseas leagues for recycled MLB players ,Free agency, trades).
With OF options of ONeill-he might never be a regular but as a guy with speed and power you just dont write him off at age 24.Arozarena-flavor of the month for many but looked overmatched in offseason.Best thing he did was get HBP.Still his speed and potential is interesting,Bader-young enough to bounce back and his defense is a plus.lane Thomas-showed good pop as a PH hitter (3 HRs) has good speed and seemed comfortable in his short samle size. With Carlson likely showing up sometime next season there is no reason to keep Ozuna blocking younger guys.Younger faster guys might be less Homeruns and more doubles, triples and more contact. There is simply no value to hanging on to a declining aging Fowler when there are younger options available,I like Ozuna but is he worth takng a chnce that he will accept the QO?

Until Cards figure out a way to get Fowler gone the OF will be screwed up.Thinking that Cards are serious about Carpenter in LF makes me cringe.CFCT you might want to check out Thomas K/BB rate .Not a real big difference in TO and LT in minors.I like both guys and think both should get real shots next spring.

    Thomas minor career 197 BB 518 Ks .252 BA MLB 4 BB 8 K
    ONeill minor career 258 BB 678 K .271 BA MLB17 BB 110 K

Agree about Odorizzi- a solid pitcher who would not be super expensive ( we hope ).Another arm is needed because Wacha needs to be replaced, counting on Wainwright having a similar season is risky,Carlos Martinez is unreliable because of his shoulder and lack of dedication,Alex Reyes is a pipe dream,Gomber is coming off a injury and missed a large part of the season.
    1.Flaherty
    2.Mikolas
    3.Hudson
    Poncedeleon ?
    Carlos Martinez ?
    Gomber ?
    Wanwright ?

Been hearing about the possible move of Carpenter to LF next season to replace Ozuna…….kinda scary to me.I bet the pitching staff would riot if a OF of Carpenter LF and Fowler in RF,,,,,,Bader
or whoever is the CF will be run ragged.

IMHO this team needs to move on from several underperforming and aging players .Carlos Martinez-too much clown show, too much drama, will his shoulder hold up and will he ever mature and become dedicated to his craft?Jose Martinez-defensivewly challenged, made for the DH……hes okay but there are younger more athletic options in the wings.Andrew Miller-solid at times, bad at times, makes too much money to be a LOOGY (and he seems inconsistent at that too).Matt Carpenter-Whats he bringing to the table anymore..a rare hot game or two...….a walk or two..more than offset by a lot of strikeouts and average defense a best....A MO mistake extension.Dexter Fowler-way overpaid, plays poor defense, doesntt steal bases, strikes out a bunch, does nothing well except eat salary.Standing in the way of younger possibly better players.
IMO the Molina extension was foolish and premature but it is what it is.Trying to deal some of the aging guys for prospects/young untried players should be considered. Many people have complained about the high strikeouts rates, poor situational hitting, baserunning mistakes so why not infuse some more new young blood with the core you have now?
Molina,Goldschimdt,Wong with DeJong offer a group to start with and Edman,Bader,O`Neill,Lane Thomas,Arozarena,Munoz,Knizner with Carlson on he way sometime next season offer youth and energy.Picking up a LH bat off the bench would help, maybe Ravelo could be a RH pinch option to fill JMarts role.
By trading some big dollars if possible then Cards can decide if to go after another solid innings eater solid SP or a contact hitter with XBH power.
    MY POINTS
    1.Stabilize SP
2.Find another bat or two with solid contact skills with XBH power(more doubles etc, Homeruns are nice but cutting back on some of the swing and miss is needed).
    3.better defensive options at 3B instead of Carpenter,better OF defense LF,RF (O`Neill,Thomas,Arozarena).
4.Work with DeJong and Bader to better hitting skills-both are young enough to improve, both provide good defense.
5.Find a solid LH bullpen guy or two-you have Miller if not traded,Cecil is still around, maybe Cingrani on the cheap I he signs plus there will be several low cost LH bullpen gus in FA looking to rebound (Sipp,Loup, etc) .Tyler Webb doesn`t give me a lot of confidence but he has done okay..

Didn`t mean to get longwinded here but I see this as a chance to improve the offense and adding to the SP is major need IMO.Wacha is gone,Wainwright bounced by okay but how long ? CMart is not the answer IMO,Mikolas,Flaherty,Dakota Hudson offer a solid 3..maybe Woodford,Gant,Gomber,Poncedeleon with Wainwright for the SP.

You want to give Arozarena a spot with his 20 ABs while dissing ONeill and his 130 ABs and 2 partial seasons? ONeill could also be in the mix next season if the FO uses their freaking head instead of spending on Ozuna and hopefully find a way to trade JMartinez and Fowler.I have no problem with a OF mix of O`Neill,Bader,Arozarena,Thomas, maybe Justin Williams and you know Schildt will play Edman in the OF sometimes also plus possibly Dylan Carlson could make a appearance next season.

Forsch- I certainly am not writing him off.I just don`t see what all the slobberfest is about him and his 20 pls ABS.Why is that so hard to understand?
I question his place over some other guys (ONeill or even Andrew Knizner and using Wieters switch-hitting bat off the bench).Likely Molina will play every inning and Wieters will be wasted because Schildt wont use Wieters because only catcher after Molina.

IMO Arozarena had not dazzled anyone until his freak year this season.Do you really think his normal will be this season or his previous career? I remain skeptical. If he works out thats great.More options for the Cards and I would have no problem at all seeing him,ONeill,Thomas,Bader in the OF next season with Carlson developing at AAA.

Agree.Whoever is playing needs to jump on the Braves early and often.Got to give the SPs some breathing room and not have to have to rely on the BP to save their ass every game.

Ortawasout-i will take Baders defense and the chance he might hit instead of thinking a rookie with 20 ABs will be productive.bader has been productive in the past.Arozarena is raw and still untested.I will stick will Bader. Not worth the risk IMO.

The infatuation over Arozarena and his 6 MLB hits is amazing. He was a .270 hitter until his freak year this season and this was his 2nd time around in AAA.He might prove to be okay in the future but what has he done to be playoff roster worthy ?

Let`s hope Fowler does something and Bader gets it together. The entire offense has been more erratic than a drunk on payday.Adding to the woes the total meltdown of Miller and Gallegos lately.Jeez whats next?

Counting on CMartinez is getting about like anyone counting on Reyes. What about his shoulder? Can CMart ever start again and hold up?IMO Cards do need to find a solid innings eater who can fit in the middle of the rotation.Mikolas,Hudson,Flaherty, maybe Wainwright and the usual cast of Gomber,Poncedeleon,Cabrera eyc;.Thas not enoughSP IMHO.I know Gant can also play swingman if needed but with the Cards luck you know at least one SP will get injured.
Enough with JMart..he has his year last season so trade him.Fowler -trade him for what you can get.Very average at best with a very inflated pay rate.Plus he is blocking younger players.I agree with most everyone about Ozuna-hes gone ..some team will make him a offer he cant refuse.

Why not Gomber CC? Another arm can always be used.Did you read Brian`s callup prediction article.I hope he is correct.Would like to see Woodford also.Justin Williams too.

Why the zingers at ONeill? He hasnt missed 70 games in a season like Fowler. When ONeill got a chance he produced better than the Albatross Fowler.I fail to see any reason to be even remotely satisfied with anything Fowler has done this season.Big deal...he is overpaid, underperforming ,plays lousy defense, cant steal bases etc;.But if his production dazzles some folks…then that`s their problem.

Tyler ONeill did okay during his chance.Positive steps IMHO.Now get everyone healthy maybe Carpenter can remember what a bat is used for and Molina realizes he isnt 25 years old anymore (And Schildt grows a pair and manages Molina instead of YM playing at manager).

I am not usually a MO/FO basher but this deal stands now as Gyorko for a Rookie league pitcher.Cingrani done for year,Cards gave up international bonus money…so how is this anything but a no-win/no gain at all deal?I dont get it......what am I missing here? I understand Gyorko has been injured but he does have somewhat of a semi-productive history..so why couldnt MO/FO gotten something better from LAD?

Maybe Mets are serious about trading Wheeler or Syndergard.Unless Mets are thinking they can flip Stroman for a huge return.
