Color me not impressed by this draft.Not at all.I hope I am surprised and there ends up being several guys who can be some kind of impact players although it looks like the FO throwing a bunch at the wall and hoping something sticks.
Not impressed by either pick today.I can see the need for LHP but Thompson`s injury history is a red flag although he has been healthy this season.
The 2nd pick looks like a long term developmental type IMO.ITs obvious something is big time wrong now.Everything is turning to crap.Stunningly bad.Not just bad but really bad.A band-aid trade won`t help this bunch IMO.Just a mess and I am not a big time MO/FO basher but now is the time to do something radical instead of re-arranging the deck chairs on the Titanic.Get some young blood for the veterans.
To each his own but its plain lunacy to keep trotting out the same bunch of fading veterans daily and hoping for the fountain of youth revival.Nobody expects all the prospects to work out and become stars…some will end up role/bench guys and some will fail to work out.Still better to go with youth and energy instead of hoping for career revivals by some guys who have faded like cheap paint.Fowler is fools gold..Carpenter has basically stunk except for a month since early last season,Gyorko can’t stay on the field,Wong flashes some offense and shows a good glove but you can find a glove man a lot cheaper than him.Thats not even considering the pitching staff failures.
Personally I would rather see a struggling bunch of AAA guys with something to prove instead of a bunch of half-ass veteran overpaid underperforming players on the downside of their careers.
The whole system is in a hitting funk.One would hope that there could be a 3B prospect who could be a replacement.The best Cards 3B guys are a year or more away but if a player could be obtained in trade (Matt Beauty,Josh Fuentes or Try France) as a option while shedding dome underperforming high dollar players then why not?
Actually I would try Munoz at 3B and live with his offense and use Sosa as late inning defense if needed.Also if Cards did trade players I would try for a 3B/1B player as a option.
A system wide pitching and hitting funk.Memphis pitching has been terrible…..now the hitters are slumping….its a mess.The kids who moved to the big club have left a void that hasn
t been filled yet. -Carlson,Montero and some others are adjusting to AA ball so that's a positive .Montero cant stay healthy though.Forsch-no I don
t think this team is one of two deals away from being a serious contender.Cards need at least 2 reliable starting pitchers added.I like Mikolas and Flaherty but Hudson shows flashes of improving,Wacha and Wainwright are not the answers,Genesis Cabrera is hoping for lightning in a bottle.Woodford at AAA might help late this year or maybe next year.You cant count on Reyes or CMMartinez.

Wong-Cards can have a glove guy to replace him and his salary.
Carpenter-looking like a foolish extension by MO.
Gyorko-time to move him.
Fowler-sinking back to reality quickly.
Ozuna-like his power but I doubt he is back next season.Bader,O`Neill and Thomas plug in as your OF with Adolis Garcia as defensive/4th OF.Bring up Tommie Edman,Edmundo Sosa for INF.
Let Shildt be the manager..not Molina..when Shildt decides Molina needs a rest.

t 2 players available who will make this team into a serious contender..so buying is insane..throwing money down the crapper.Too many holes to realistically fix by buying unless about 15 guys are traded..and that wont happen.Scherzer has a salary of 42 million a year thru 2021…..even with portion deferred do you actually think the Cards FO would take on that much money in payroll?The Cards would have yo get rid of huge dollars first.I don’t think this FO is that much of risk takers.Taking on a soon to be 35 year pitcher with that huge of a salary…….probably not happening.
Duffy makes 15 million and has 3 wins and is due 46 million over the next 3 years.
Eaton makes 8 plus million and has a WAR .3 and is nothing special or much better than what is on the roster now.So trading for high priced veterans doesn’t mean you are getting high end talent.Foolish baseball is what it is .Thinking Duffy and Eaton are difference makers is wishful thinking IMO.We don’t know how the kids would do but I would hold on to as many as possible instead of dealing them.We already know what the veterans can do…..
So trade what is not working……seems like the smart play.Stl25-I would try Tommie Edman or Munoz or whatever prospect obtained in trade Carpenter likely would bring a decent prospect but not a top one I certainly don’t have a problem trying several players at 3B.Cards have Edmundo Sosa,Edman,Munoz as in house options.Elehuris Montero is just finding his footing at AA ad is Evan Mendoza so help is maybe a year away with those two guys and Nolan Gorman is likely 2 years away at least.Can the Cards survive without Carpenter……hell yes.

GyorkoTrade them for whatever young talent you can get.Go young and take your lumps while the kids mature.This current club is nothing more than a .500 team at best.Dump as many big salaries as possible while looking ahead instead of treading water.
Crazy talk abounds here.Don`t trade for big bucks veterans or pending FAs.Deal Ozuna,Wacha,Wong,Gyorko and I wish (Fowler and Carpenter) for young arms /Positions players.Enough with thec trading for Scherzer/Eaton nonsense..not happening.Go tyoung and take your lumps while the kids get MLB experience.No more retreads/overpriced veterans/impending FAs.Look ahead instead of the next 3 months.Trading away the farm system for a quick fix or short term gain is beyond foolish IMO.I think the fans will still show up to watch younger exciting baseball instead of overpaid fading veterans playing out the string while just collecting a paycheck.
Ah yes..THe Yadi apologists give him a free pass.The rose colored Molina glasses with another excuse for no-hustle.He should be setting a example instead of being the semi-manager dictating playing time and half-assing to 1B.Play the right way or get the hell out.No excuse for half-ass.
Hunter Cervenka LP has been okay.Tommy Layne has been horrible this season as mentioned by Card27.No body has jumped up for the Memphis pen and stood out.As inconsistent as Tyler Webb has been I wondered why Cervenka hasn`t gotten a shot.I know it would require a 40- man roster move .I guess the Fo feels Cervenka offers basically the same thing as Webb.All I know is that there has to be a better LH option somewhere than Webb.

Neill and Thomas.You dont trade 23 year old OFs without at least giving them real chances to show their talent.Ozuna is likely gone after the season….Fowler is fools gold and sinking back to reality.Carpenter …blah……..Gyorko..?Wacha…..someone would give something for him..pitching always in demand.
bandaids aren`t going to fix this team….IMHO you deal some veterans and stockpile prospects..they might not be big ranked prospects but you get some youth and salary relief.
Running in place around .500 isn`t accomplishing anything.Bite the bullet and get some younger hungry players instead of fading veterans.BMike-IMO fixing the batting order is needed.Goldy batting 2nd is wasting him.He should be 4th .Ozuna 5th.Carpenter 6th Molina 7th.Wong 8th.JMartinez 2nd.Fowler/Bader leadoff.Still only a bandaid but worth trying .
I am ready for a real shakeup.Enough with the bandaid approach.Find someone who will take Fowler even if Cards have to eat half his contract.He is sinking back to reality.look for a trade partner for Gyorko.I woulkdn`t mind seeing Carpenter,Wacha and Ozuna as trade bait.There are teams who might be interested in adding veteran strength or veteran SP.Enough running in place……..get younger and dump some stagnant veterans with big paychecks.
It would have been nice if Gregerson had been able to fill any role in the pen and contribute.But it looks like he could be at the end of the line.Leone still can help when he gets straightened out.Now continue to make some positive moves and get Edman on the roster.A bit of speed and a switch hitter adds versatility to the bench.Tyler Webb can be replaced too .I would like to see Hunter Cervenka get a shot as a LH reliever..

Neill fanned his last 5 ABS.That is bad and will definately skew the K rate.Looking past ones nose is required sometimes isnt it?Before yesterday O`Neill was 4 for 14 as a starter and and 6 for 20 as a sub/PH…so yes I think that’s doing okay for the role he has been given.Yes a few more productive outs could be made by him and the rest of the team also.
