6:15 p.m. RHP Miles Mikolas (9-14, 4.16) vs. TBA FOX Network // KMOX // WIJR
September 26, 2019 at 4:01 pm #108655This is a change from what the #stlcards listed yesterday as their weekend starters. Then, they had listed Hudson, Mikolas and Wainwright. So, Mikolas is being skipped or at least delayed.

September 26, 2019 at 4:33 pm #108660Mills, Hamels, TBA vs. Cardinals. Darvish, Hendricks shut down.

So this leaves us with Wainwright vs. Hamels.
September 26, 2019 at 4:44 pm #108662
stlcard25ParticipantThat’s a bit of a break for our offense. Considering the Brewers face 3 bad pitchers in Colorado, that is pretty necessary, I’d say.
September 26, 2019 at 4:59 pm #108664The cubbies not shelving Hamels in this series after his recent injury tells me that he will not be in their plans for next season. If Waino is out next year, Cole may be just the veteran influence that the rotation needs for 2020.
Flaherty
Hudson
Hamels
MikoSeptember 26, 2019 at 4:59 pm #108665If the games were meaningful for the Cubs, Darvish would have been Friday, and Hendricks Sunday.
September 26, 2019 at 6:01 pm #108677If the division is on the line, I can see it being Flaherty 80% or Micholas 20%. If we somehow win the division on Saturday, I can see it being Cabrera.
September 26, 2019 at 6:35 pm #108682If we have the division wrapped up after Saturday’s game then John Gant needs to start on Sunday and pitch a few innings. See if he cant get his act together.

MikoI totally agree Pugs. I wouldn’t mind having Hamels on a reasonable deal. Of course my idea of reasonable and his are probably different.
September 28, 2019 at 8:18 am #108961Happy to see the game on Fox but not sure if the announcing will be better. Can’t be worse than McLaughlin and any other motormouth they use (than Edmonds). Like watching a Blues hockey game with them.
September 28, 2019 at 8:54 am #108972If we are able to do it, I think going after Madbum would be a good investment. Maybe a 5 year deal. I think Wainos contract depends on what he does in the postseason.
September 28, 2019 at 8:59 am #108974The rocs game starts an hour after ours, so if we win tonight… it’s possible they may put the game on the jumbo tron afterwards so the fans and players can watch together that is of course the Crew isn’t way ahead. Go Cardinals!
September 28, 2019 at 9:02 am #108977Our bullpen needs to get their act together not only for this game but the postseason esp since Schildt likes to use them early and often no matter how are starter is doing.
September 28, 2019 at 9:08 am #108978I’m predicting big games from our Cardinal vets with Carp, Molina, and Waino having big games. 6/11, 2 homers, 2DB, 5rbis, 3 runs scored, 1bb, 1k combined with the Cardinals claiming a 8-2 victory.

I think he is doing a good job of using them and has been all season. That is one reason why they are still effective this late in the season. BTW, the starter was at about 93 pitches after the 5th inning last night so why run him down when the playoffs are looming ahead. Shildt may take some heat for being the manager but he and Maddox have done wonders with that bullpen.
September 28, 2019 at 9:54 am #108989Pugs? The Wildcats from Jasper throttled the Tigers from Princeton last night. The Mercy Rule was in effect the 2nd half. Final was 56-7 Jasper.
Looks like I didn’t miss much of the game last night. What a disappointing loss.
September 28, 2019 at 10:04 am #108991Rats and Pugs. Love the football info. My kids high school (they have all graduated years ago) out in the wilds of North Dakota play 6 man football. They played 9 man for a few years after having problems competing in 11 man. Enrollment was dropping fast so they consolidated in football with a neighboring high school. Last night they lost….wait….wait….107-84. For real and that set many records. Something like 28 total touchdowns scored and my team’s quarterback also kicked extra points. Thankfully we no longer reside in that teams area – several states away in fact. I now have the Cardinals if I want to see a team kicked around….LOL
September 28, 2019 at 10:16 am #108993I am a big fan of high school football as well. My dad coached in towns in western Nebraska, South Dakota and Wyoming in the years before I was born, and for awhile when I was a little tyke. He then went on to stick with teaching and dropped the coaching responsibilities, but had a crew of three other teachers who refereed high school football for years. Now and then he would take me, and maybe a neighborhood kid with them to the games. For a couple of grade school kids, it was quite the treat to hang out on the sidelines. At halftime we got to throw one of the game balls back and forth, which we thought was a big deal.
Glad the local 9 stepped up and helped us out last night. I think this club is worn out from that 19 inning game. If the Rox can step up at least one more time, and the Cards can put a good game together we will all breath a little easier for a few days.
Unfortunately if I had to make a prediction, I think Milwaukee wins the next two and we split, forcing the play-in scenario. Hopefully I am as wrong as “Wrongy Wrongington”, to quote a former St. Louis radio personality. (Is that guy still on local radio – Kevin Slaten?)

ParticipantFowler worked his way back to the lead-off spot. Now he is hitting so bad he has earned his way back to maybe 7th and returning Carpenter to lead-off because he is starting to hit better.
Its also time to replace Bader with Arozarena. Bader is to much of a drag on the offence, its like having two pitching spots in a row and then Fowler who is back in a rut. NG
September 28, 2019 at 10:49 am #108998Ny, I agree on that, they need to score some runs, they can’t expect a shutout every game. The lineup as a whole has been awful of late with a few exceptions (Edman, Carp lately, etc).
DeJong, Ozuna, Fowler and even Goldy to an extent have been hard to watch at the plate.
Carp, Edman, Goldy, Ozuna, Yadi, Arozarena, DeJong, Fowler might create a spark….
September 28, 2019 at 11:02 am #109003Arozarena isn’t likely to start. It is not Shildt-like to bench one of his starters. Here is my answer.
Remember how Bader looked at the plate before he was sent down to Memphis?
We know Bader won't sit unless another "starter" displaces him, which is another reason the #stlcards need Kolten Wong back.

September 28, 2019 at 11:04 am #109004Whiling away the hours before game time and happened to look at the 2020 schedule. Holy Moley Batman, what does it take to get a home opener to start the season. Once again we go to Cincy for one of those 3 games in 4 days affairs and then to Milwaukee for 3 and then home for Baltimore in another one of those 3 in 4 day affairs. Isn’t it about time that the Cards got to open the season at home. Cincy is no better weather than St Louis in late March. I think the Clydesdales should go on strike until we get a season opener at home!
September 28, 2019 at 11:07 am #109006Whether or not the Cards play there, Cincinnati has traditionally always hosted the first game of the MLB season.
Personally, I think all warm weather teams should play the first two weeks at home. This is especially the case with Opening Day moved into March to give the players more days off during the season.
P.S. FWIW, there is a 2020 Schedule thread already…

September 28, 2019 at 11:20 am #109008Bader – love the guy and his defense but this offense hurts as much as his defense helps. Putting him in #8 is like two outs with the pitcher following. Harrison’s problem is that he has completely reverted to the way he looked before he was sent down – watch strikes and swing at that dang low outside slider for strike 3.
Not so sure that Goldy and Ozuna really deserve #3 and #4 either but the bottom of the order seems to be loaded with non-producers already. If we could get Edman about 6 different jerseys and different numbers we may be able to score more than two runs.
I was hoping Jim Edmonds would be doing analyst duties on this series but that was not to be. McCarver and Thompson are the absolute worst with Thompson being the most annoying as he never shuts up. McCarver is usually quiet because I keep him muted when he starts a rant and he is always doing that.
My prediction for today: Rockies Win; Cardinals Win & clinch division. Mikolas Sunday; Jacko at Atlanta. Your predictions = ???

I don’t disagree with that but also include teams with domes as being warm weather. However, I think it was the Red Sox this year that lost a bunch playing warm weather teams on the road in March/April.
I thought that initially the longer playing period was supposed to get the players one day a week off but that surely hasn’t worked out with 17/18 game schedules without a day off or maybe one off on the road.
I didn’t realize there was a 2020 sked thread. Will post anything else there.
