Zimmerman reminds me of Curtis Taylor from last year in that he is a journeyman depth piece who can give you some quality innings. Frankly I would have liked to have given Taylor a shot in STL last year and the same goes for Zimmerman this year. Let them eat some big league innings while the true prospects continue to season.
Let’s not forget some other big busts from the Angels.

I bet if you looked at the worst free agent signings of the last 20 years half of them would have been Angels.
The Angels have made so many boneheaded moves.
They signed Rendon to a big contract only to see him totally implode.
They refused to cash in on Ohtani and let him walk for nothing but a compensation pick.
They gave Pujols a massive contract on the downside of his career and he frankly never did much with them.
They have completely wasted Trout’s years by never putting any talent around him.
In 2021 they drafted 20 pitchers and zero position players and all 20 pitchers were a bust.
They refuse to rebuild thus have a terrible big leage team and a terrible farm system.
So when people claim that all you need to be succesful is a big market and a lot money don’t believe them.
Mo is actually an upgrade for them.
And the mention of an interminable career from a pitcher conjures up a little baseball trivia…Who’s the pitcher that holds the all time record for most Big League seasons? No hint on this one because the correct answer should be real easy for this elite squad of baseball experts.
Without looking it up I will guess Phil Niekro or Jamie Moyer.
They are one of the worst ran teams in the league. Not only is their big league club terrible they also have one of the worst farm systems. It is hard to have both but they have managed to do it. And they play in a huge market and have plenty of money which again proves that you also have to know what you are doing.
Mo can’t make them any worse.
I watched a replay of that press conference and I didn’t notice any drastic difference in the responses. BDW 3 hedged a little about buying or selling but it didn’t sound like he was very enthusiasctic about buying. Bloom has been very consistent for months about how they are going to stick to the plan and take no short cuts which is why I don’t foresee the team doing any buying at all regardless of the standings.
Of course with the way team has been playing lately any debate on their deadline moves may become a moot point real quick.
We are doing our usual friday night pizza night. My wife likes black olives and I do not so I will stick with pepperoni on my half.
I don’t know anything about this Marlins starter but his numbers suggest he his going to be a tough cookie.
The Cubs actually swept the Mets in 4 games. It pains me to see them surging while we start to collapse but I guess it was inevitable. Oh well we will see how the Cubs fare in Milwaukee this weekend. I will be pulling for the Crew.
We are definitely entering a stretch of some very tough series against some legit teams.

3 is probably just as cheap as his dad. The apple doesn’t fall far from the tree. I don’t see it altering the rebuild/reset at all. They won’t spend anything the next couple years unless the new agreement forces it.
That is true. I expect the Cardinals to still be a frugal and conservative organization but I also get the feeling that Bloom is perfectly fine with that. I would wager that he enjoyed his time with the Rays more than his time with the Red Sox and not just because of how those tenures ended.
Basically Jr. is still in charge and 3 still works for Jr.
Technically that is true but I read it as BDW Jr. will only intervene or oversee a few things and BDW 3 will oversee the huge majority of things. BDW 3 is basically running all of the day to day decisions and BDW Jr. will only step in if something major is happening, however you define major.
I’m also curious to know if anyone has heard anything regarding the status or whereabouts of the guy with the nice curly hair who they often referred to as the GM? Is he still stateside or has he been couched somewhere overseas for the last couple of years? I’m wondering if there’s even been a sighting of this guy.
I saw a pic of Girsch in one of Brian’s spring training reports but I really don’t know what special project he is currently working on.
3’s job has been managing the business end. I make no assumptions what he will do in Jr’s role. But like I said, we don’t know about control of the entity that owns the team.
They probably have an LLC or LLLP that officially owns the team but if BDW 3 is eventually obtaining the same ownership shares that BDW Jr has (had) then I would assume the other ownership interests would still be in the minority.
I guess it will be 1pm today. Any idea what this is about?

Everyone has a price I suppose but it would have to be a major offer. If Seattle would give us Cade Anderson for one of our bats then sign me up for that.
If they intend to do that, then we should probably be saying goodbye to one of Burleson or Herrera as well. There isn’t a reason to keep around a guy whose defensive value is so low. DHs can be found fairly easily on the market or in the draft.
There might be other options out there but I don’t know if they would be better options at that price point. I view Herrera as an elite bat and Burleson isn’t far behind. I think I would lock those two up on extensions along with Winn and Wetherholt. I would make Walker prove it again next year to make sure 2026 hasn’t been a fluke.
Missing just one playoff game could cost the Cardinals hundreds of thousand dollars
So the Cardinals will abandon the rebuild in order to try to have two playoff games, with no guarantee that either one of them would be at home? That seems like the exact opposite of what Bloom has been talking about since last October. Instead of trying to get the revenue for two playoff games in 2026 they need to be thinking about how to continue to reinforce the pipeline which could lead to deeper playoff runs in 2027, 2028, and beyond, which would lead to a lot more revenue.
